    - Seam Allowance is about 3/8" I try to do as small as my machine will allow.
    - The pleat on the side is about 1" total - 1/2" on each side then laid down to sew. For kids sizes make it a little smaller as well.
    - Ignore the 1" square on the pattern, that was for sizing purposes but print according to the percentage you need for the size mask you wish to make.
    - If you don't have a printer try opening the pattern on your computer screen, brighten your screen and trace the pattern on a thin piece of paper. I' a 78 year old male and I taught my self to sew from CZcams video. I used your No Gap Face Mask pattern to make mask for my Doctors and Nurses also friends and family. I have made 128 mask so far and everyone loves this face mask. They all said it fits the best. Thanks for sharing your pattern.

I agree! I've made many others and I always come back to this one! I love that there are several different sizes. I've made them for men with full beards and some women with very large fleshy faces as well as little teensy children. I use a generous 7" of elastic, 1/8" soft and made especially for masks as well as a pony bead to make them adjustable. I love that I can open my mouth, talk and the mask doesn't touch my lips!

Thank you so much for your great pattern and tutorial. It's very snug and comfortable. I made the opening for turning to the side of the center seam which made it easier to fold neatly. I also made it at the top of the mask which made it easier to insert the nose wire. One more thing that makes it easier for me is to sew the strips of elastic to one piece before sewing the front and back together..

Thanks for the pattern and tutorial!! I didn't have a sewing machine so I just hand sewn my face mask, and used shoe laces instead of elastics. Love that the mask fits snug on the face, and covers the sides and chin too. I tried other patterns and this one is by far the best fit, in my opinion. Thanks again!!

Thank you for snipping the curves with a cut out triangle. no one else, that I've seen, has done this. this is the best way of getting rid of that extra fabric and is a basic rule for cutting this type of curve.

I just wanted to say that I just bought a new sewing machine as a complete newbie. I was able to make this mask easily. It was much easier than the rectangular pleated masks. Next one I make I'm going cut under the eyes a little deeper. My first one wanted to ride up under my eyes, but it could be just the lack of skill, and not the pattern.
If I can do it with no actual sewing projects under my belt, you can too.

I really appreciate your posting this with the pattern and all. I made one of the adult size. it turned out beautifully but was too small for myself and my husband. I used the elastic from old N-95 masks. We live in Northern California where there have been devastating wildfires for the last few years so most people have extras of these lying around. So I used the elastic from these. I wonder if the elastic is different from what one could buy in the store? Anyway, we looked like Dopey in Snow White!! If I can get my hands on some of the correct elastic, I might try again. BTW, I put my mask on our picket fence with a note that said "handmade mask for a smaller face. Never worn" It was gone within a few minutes- so it wasn't wasted!

I’ve watched about 100 mask videos and have taken a little bit of info from them to come up with a design that is identical to yours! 😆 Even using the garden wire that I had bought (before the shut down) from Dollar Tree to use in my.....garden! The only difference that I do is I leave the cheek end unsown ( I do hem the ends of each cheek area separately before the pieces are sewn together so that I can slip a filter in. I attach the elastic to the top fabric so it’ll hold down the bottom piece. I also run darts at the cheek on the top fabric piece and also dart the under fabric) to create a smooth fit...so no gaping.
Great minds think alike!! I wish I was better with the sewing machine....it’s a learning curve. I’m glad to see that I wasn’t doing it wrong.....maybe just a little different than the others. Now I need to find a video to help with figuring out how to use all the different control buttons on my sewing machine cause I haven’t a clue!
Thank you for taking the time to share, Angie
(I’d love to do a video but mine look like a 10 year old made them (actually a 10 yr old could do better) ....”my husband says they look great! Nobody is supposed to get close so they won’t be able to see anything” 😂)

If you wear glasses, make the nose wire about twice the size recommended in this video and, before wearing the finished mask, take a few minutes to carefully shape it to the contour of your nose and cheeks. It will help reduce exhaled breath from escaping the top and fogging up your glasses. For me, having the ends of the wire end about right under my pupils seems to be the magic spot. Also 16 gauge steel wire (available from craft stores) is heavy enough that it doesn't deform easily while you're wearing the mask but still easy to mold into the right shape.

I found the same. Cheekbone to cheekbone works well.. but the garden wire pokes through after a couple machine washings (sigh) . So I bought the 3M metal nose piece (bridge) on eBay.

@@heidiedwards7819 I use pipe cleaners. Just use some needle nose pliers and coil each end to a circle so the pokey ends are in the middle. Or just turn the ends of the garden wire.

@@heidiedwards7819 Just fold the ends of the wire--about 1/8--and crimp flat with a set of needle nose pliers. Solved that problem for me!

The BEST mask EVER! I love that it's so simple! I've used many patterns and they alway ended up a bit smaller. I only increased the size of the elastic to 7inch. other than that I can't believe that over 400 people gave it dumbs down! They were problem just jealous that you have over one million views!

Your mask design is nearly identical to one I have developed from looking the "butterfly" type Asian-style Respirator mask that my daughter gave to me. Thanks for offering yours to everyone. All I need to do is to figure out how to heat seal my seams instead of sewing them and I will be a happy camper

An interesting idea for sewing face mask! 👍I sewed a face mask without wire. I created a pattern. It sits perfectly on my face so that the wire is not needed. 🤗

Thank you so much for your great work.
I especially like this video because:
You use a Janome machine similar to mine so the movements are familiar.
The inclusion of the extra edging stitches is a new idea and helps with the reinforcement.
The garden tie wire is a genius adaptation.
Because I have been sewing only two weeks, your very clear directions give me confidence that I will be able to do this mask: not so much for other mask videos.
Thank you again for the great video.

Looks great! I have to try this one! I may add in the non-woven to it or add the pocket and just fill it with a piece. I also like the ones that have sides so that the elastic can be put through and knotted. This way if it breaks you can take it out and add a different set. I wonder if it is possible to still make that style with the added seam you have to fit tightly though. I would prefer it to be fitted well first.
