This is a tutorial on how to add a filter pocket to my Face Mask Tutorial (link above). Added a step at time stamp 2:25 of original video. (*Note: If you want a finished hem on the inside, follow the same steps but add a 1/4" to bottom of pattern piece - chin section - then fold over twice before stitching)
Also shows you how to add head elastic (soft elastic that goes around the head instead of the ears). Changes made at time stamp 2:45 of original video and resuming at 4:15. Can also follow the same steps for adding ties instead of elastic. Add 2 ties to each side and keep sandwiched in between front and lining until turning.
You can find the soft fold over elastic here: amzn.to/3cjdnoB
    Elastic Measurements for head elastic:
(*Please note that this may need to be adjusted depending on how stretchy your elastic is, for best results measure around head to sides of cheek and subtract 1")
Small - Top Piece: 14" Bottom Piece: 10"
Large - Top Piece: 15" Bottom Piece: 11"

I made one for myself and my husband wanted one and then my mother wanted one....they are so quick and simple to make and fit really, really well!

Not good at sewing and not having a sewing machine I have managed to make two of these and they fit well.

Great tutorial! I have a question. I will post it on the original. I also like the ones that have sides so that the elastic can be put through and knotted. This way if it breaks you can take it out and add a different set. But I do like the pocket. The last one I made I just added the non-woven fabric in.

I have sewed two face masks using your pattern. Thank you so much for sharing. It gives a very snug fit both around the noise and especially the chin area. Could you tell me how I can modify your pattern to make pockets at both ears to insert an elastic cord instead of having them sewed in, please. In order words, to make the mask longer. Thank you.

My workaround for elastic shortage-use old bras and cut the straps off!! Or buy inexpensive new ones. Sew the straps on each side of the mask. They are adjustable for the wearer and wrap around the back of the head as opposed to behind the ears!!

Thank you for the sharing :) I am new to sewing but would like to start making one with filter pocket. Unfortunately I could not find the video showing how to add the FILTER POCKET, please help! Thank you!

Hi, I love how these masks fit. However, I haave looked at the video above, and it appears to me that you create the pocket by leaving an opening in the bottom of the mask. Am I correct?

Thanks for this tutorial, I am a learner and have made several of the masks with elastic around the ear and I love this version, there seems to be the little tucks on each side that is missing from this version, is that on purpose? or should I still put them in? Thank you

I am working on masks to donate and I want a filter pocket like this with yours and elastic straps that are adjustable by using a bead like I seen in another tutorial, the problem is I am just cutting the pattern , someone else is going to be doing the sewing and its hard enough for her to understand a video thats English, she talks great English, but it will be harder for her. to go from one video to the other, I was wondering (I know this is asking alot) but is there a way you can combine your two videos? I wish we could get together and I can explain stuff to her, but well Corona virus is why we are doing this.lol also what about different sizes , I seen your pattern and it looked like it was only one size ?

Taya, this is fantastic. Do you have written instructions for the original mask and these new options? I found the pdf of the template, but not the instructions. Thank you!

So you can use shoe(or boot) laces for ties, or disassemble a fitted sheet for both cotton and elastic, or use elastic from a not-favorite pair of leggings (the fabric itself). Some "up cycles" may help you.

Folks, please note--the filter you use needs to fit the ENTIRE mask edge to edge, or air will not go through your filter. It's lazy and takes the easiest way--around the filter! So don't give it a choice. :)

I wonder if I could use the non woven material that can be washed as the pocket material , that way the filter is edge to edge ? no filters available much but one video showed that I could just use non woven material and I found some at Walmart , its the material they use to make reusable grocery bags with .
