      @@playmaster_plus late to this again but I guess I wasn’t super into the petscop Reddit or tehepry community cause I was just kinda waiting for the series to continue and accept it for what it is. I guess I don’t bother myself with the puzzle solving of series like these but still, I applaud the people who thought of the “Lina was caught it n the gears” theory cause it’s so refreshing to the supernatural aspect of Petscop theories. It’s just so realistic and grim. “Yeah she feel into the gears of an old windmill and died. Nobody heard her screaming.” That’s much more scary and grim dark to me. It makes me grieve for Lina.

  • @unduloid

    I don't think Lina actually fell into a windmill. I think she got hit by a car while holding a pinwheel, seeing how the pinwheel is also a recurring theme throughout the game. Somehow Marvin conflated the two concepts in his aberrant mind.

    • @msunflowers
      @msunflowers Před 2 měsíci +7

      I like this. It bridges Marvin’s psyche and actual events, and the series gives much attention to the massive difference between those two worlds. But I always imagined she just was hit by a car under Marvin’s care/as his peer, and Marvin hid her body in the windmill, not knowing what to do. Either intentionally or not, the windmill’s gears crushed her.
      The young Marvin and Anna became obsessed with trying to resurrect Lina. Marvin would lose his sense of chronology-throwing Lina a birthday party, returning to the location of her death and recreating the last picture with her as if she was still there. Lina’s remains would almost certainly have been discovered, and the windmill would’ve probably been demolished, as is what sometimes happens to crime scenes. This would explain how it “disappeared.”

      @@msunflowers also lends credence to the idea that maybe Marvin hit Michael on purpose as a way to almost recreate Lina’s death as means of rebirthing her somehow. Not sure how it would work but hey he’s also a crazy person

    I always thought that Paul disassociated with his old identity, repressing all the memories and forget all the trauma and used to be Care, because there's the school counselor meeting in Petscop 22, while she talks to Paul (that's what the character or ai calls itself when asked) and tells him that he has been busy catching up the classes because he was kidnapped (as Care) and also the counselor talks about how distinguishing left and right can be difficult (Paul has trouble opening doors and knowing where left and right is, as we heard in Petscop 14 and the door on Petscop 1 saying the player cannot open doors) and the last thing, the counselor says that she hopes Paul to find his real house, possibly meaning that he was given to an orphanage like the child library, since Daniel/Rainer died in 2000 (the calender in the house points out 2000 as far as i can remember) and its been 3 years after Care's (now is Paul) kidnapping, it most likely means he was still keeping an eye on Paul in the school since it's the same one (and the Garalina office was in the same building, and i guess the orphanage sent Paul to the same school) Rainer got some new info on what Care(Paul) has become, and added new things to the game because of that, giving the hopelessness of not being able to open doors etc. (he might even have talked to the consoler to record their voices so he can add a recreation of the meeting in the game)... Even tho Paul doesn't remember "Care" or Marvin, we also have to remember he was disturbed by the censored objects (which were most likely casket 1 and 2, the vase that Marvin used to abuse Care and the spinning triangle which was Care spinning) Paul most likely remembers those because they were things that impacted him the most, and tbh he was disturbed a lot the more he kept playing, maybe he was realizing his past as Care... Last thing, I don't believe that Rainer actually blames Care for Mike's accident/death, I always thought that he cares about Care, and was very sad and angry of what she became after all of the trauma she has gone through, Rainer made the game to confront all of his family, including his own parents too (since the Mark's and Hammond's are all family, cousins and aunts), I also wanted to add a little theory of my own (which is mostly similar to yours at the end), I saw that people say that Jill is Anna's sister but to me Jill can be Marvin's sister instead, Jill knew about Paul being Care and she made him play the game not only so he could see what happened to him in the past and get to know more about the game (That her son Rainer/Daniel made), but she was also in contact with Marvin all along, and wanted to help him so Paul/Care could become Lina, Jill also knew about Lina i would assume, let's remember that at some point, it seems that Paul was being held and tracked in the Garalina testing rooms in Petscop 15...
    I might have messed up which Petscop video it was so sorry about that, I forget which is which easily-

    hey, I loved so many of the theories in this video! Especially your analysis of Michael and Rainer’s motivation, Lina tripping and falling into the gears of the windmill (no clue why I never thought of that, I guess my mind just didn’t even wanna go there!) and the potential red herring that was the entire Windmill puzzle.
    I’m curious about your take on the beginning of Petscop 9, where the inputs of the player in the demo line up with Paul’s inputs during the daisy scene in Petscop 2, but only once on the treadmill in Pen’s room. In addition to the absurdity of this particular syncing incident, the inputs do sync perfectly in terms of timing but do not involve identical button presses (the player in the demo is pushing Up on the control stick, Paul is using a button to interact with the flower). The synced moment also disregards as Paul thinks to check the room beside the flower before plucking all of the petals (the player on the treadmill stands still until Paul returns to the daisy room to finish plucking its petals).
    I know it’s not the only moment of syncing, but it was an iconic moment in my eyes, along with the “experience” Paul encounters in Petscop 11 as he first investigates the bathroom, where he openly comments that he saw a block above the bathtub that was shown in one version of the clip, but not the other. Also very odd that on one side of the clip, the camera pans in to the TV, and on the other side, it pans away from the TV. It could be video editing trickery, but 1) Why? and 2) Paul comments he thought he saw the block above the bathtub.
    The other syncing moments are very strange to me as well, the strangest of all of them being another scene in Petscop 9 when Paul enters Lina’s room, and another Guardian character is seen exiting the room just as Paul enters. Paul barely comments on it (“…‘Kay?”), and then proceeds to move in the EXACT same way after he reads the note and exits the room.
    Thoughts there?

    Watched the whole thing and was a great video!! I really loved all of the connections that you made, and despite not agreeing with all of it, I think you make some really good points. Especially the focus on the lack of the supernatural, and Rainer's involvement with Marvin; this is really well made!
    I'd like to present a counter argument to the idea that Care is not Paul, that i think is the lynchpin of Petscop theorising. I'm going to skip over the trivial evidence of physical similarities and shared birthdays, as I think that that aspect is well understood, and can lead to both same person or twin theory. My main areas of evidence are thus:
    *Story cohesion*:
    The story actively is less conclusive if Paul and Care are different people. We spend more than the first half of the series intimately learning about Care, about her tragedy, her story. Then in the latter episodes, this pivots to focus on Paul. This not only reflects in the videos, but also reflects in how Care is not mentioned in the timeline post 1997. Now while it is possible for the story to write her out entirely, it seems unlikely due to how central she is to everything. In the final episodes, there is no cathartic moment regarding Care, there is only focus on Paul.
    However if Paul was Care, then this series has a concise narrative which focuses on one primary main character. Additionally, it would give greater catharsis to the ending, where we get closure on both Paul and Care as they are the same person. Furthermore, there is the greater thematic relevance of Care and Paul's melody, where we see that in the abusive environment, Paul is forced to play Care's melody; but at the end of the series Paul plays his melody, and that is seen as the triumph in the basement.
    Finally, it comes to themes of overcoming trauma. There is no doubt that Petscop has large overarching themes of trauma, focusing on how Care is traumatised by Marvin. If we go by your interpretation, then Care is just written out of the story, and we never see her find peace, or overcome her trauma, its just a part of her character. But if Paul was Care, then the ending can be seen as trauma being overcome, and Care/Paul overcoming their abuser. The themes and messages of the story are stronger if Paul and Care are one and the same.
    *Color theory*:
    You have probably seen how colors are heavily associated with each character. Care is extensively associated with the color yellow, and Paul is associated a few times with the color red. This is important to consider when we look at the board game `accident` in which it shows the color red being connected to the color yellow. This being described as an accident, can be interpreted as whatever these two colors represent coming together was a mistake, perhaps a failed rebirth (rebirthing is discussed later).
    Additionally, there is the egg at the end. Now we see that Belle is associated with pink, and Tiara is associated with purple, and their egg is inside of the locker already. Then we see that the egg from Paul is red and yellow. We know that Belle was attempted to be rebirthed into Tiara; and likewise Care was attempted to be rebirthed into Lina. When viewed under this lens, it looks like Paul is who Care was rebirthed into. Which would not only explain the egg, but would explain why the eggs at the end were placed together, and why Belle and Paul have this connection: they were both abuse victims of this rebirthing.
    *Intimate knowledge*:
    Throughout the series Paul demonstrates insight into Care that wouldn't otherwise make much sense. The biggest cases of this, are the caskets. Particularly, in Paul's room (the room in from Care's face and Mike's eyebrows which he has a visceral reaction to) he finds casket 1. Casket 1 is the red vase with a yellow sunflower in it, and was used by Marvin to reflect Care's face and tell her that she was ugly, using her distorted image as a visage to motivate her rebirth. For Paul to have such a visceral reaction to the casket, it suggests that he either knows the context behind the vase, which is unlikely at this time in the series, or he was someone who personally experienced it. (Note: just occured to me that color theory can be seen here as well, with the red distorted face of Care linking to the color of Paul)
    Moreover, casket 2 suggests something similar. Casket 2 depicts a large red spinning pyramid with Care/Paul's face on it (since Care and Paul look similar), and Paul reacts very negatively to it. When we consider what Rainer described with the twisting, turning, tightening, tightening, we could draw parallels to this spinning pyramid. Now if Paul hadn't experienced something related to this, there would be no reason for his disgust, but his reaction suggests a more intimate connection.
    While it is possible that Hannah, or Jill 'cursed' Paul to know or act like Carrie, that doesn't explain why Paul would react like this to caskets which are clearly associated with Care. Paul would likely need to have first hand knowledge or experience with these caskets to be so affected by them, which makes the most sense if Paul was Care.
    *Rebirthing*:
    The biggest reason why Paul and Care are argued to be different is due to the failure of rebirthing, the dismissal of no supernatural elements and therefore rebirthing can't make Care change identity. I do strongly believe that Petscop has no supernatural elements, only fictitious elements which aren't too large a leap in logic. However, I don't think we can disregard the impacts of 'rebirthing'. The whole process of rebirthing is not only that awful machine and the music that is played, but it is the psychological grooming that convinces a child to become a whole new person.
    There have been several studies which consider the link between trauma and identity; as well as some which consider the potential link between childhood trauma and gender dysphoria. I believe that someone going through the horrors of kidnapping, psychological abuse, and this awful rebirthing process, could understandably come out of it different, changed, 'rebirthed'. Especially when you consider that Care was 5 years old when they endured this, them growing up to be a different person, taking a different identity, and repressing these memories, is far from a difficult logical leap to make.
    'Rebirthing' throughout the series is presented as an impossible goal, with the parallels of the windmill and Don Quixote; something that Marvin, and consequently Rainer cannot achieve. This can be interpreted to mean that the entire idea of rebirthing is meaningless and it does nothing, just a simple analogous to the traumatising of children. However, another interpretation is that rebirthing can change and alter the identity of children, but it can never be changed to what the abuser wants. Belle, Care; Tiara, Paul are their own people, and no matter what their abuser does to them, they will never be who the abuser wants them to be. Through this lens, Petscop becomes a story of revealing the horrors of abuse, and the struggles to overcome their abusers.
    -----------------------------------
    In conclusion, Care and Paul are one and the same, and yet they differ. Paul is what came from the abuse that Care suffered, and we see that after everything Marvin put him through, both in the past and present, that Paul is okay. Paul's melody isn't just a climatic moment because he is defying Marvin, but also because he has embraced who he is now, no longer shackled by the melody of Care, and the trauma that they once went through.

    The only theory video I have seen about Petscop that doesn't attempt to inject some arbitrary plot elements that aren't observable in the original content.
    Your theory is the only one that seems to actually construct a narrative out of the events depicted in the series, as opposed to grasping at straws. The generative AI theories always bothered me after we get to see Impulse, because nothing about the Impulse menu looks like it's for "AI generation" other than there being lots of recordings(which adds to horror imo, Paul has been searching for so long the recordings this version of Petscop has accrued makes it look like a Super Meat Boy after you complete a stage.)
    Watching these gave me a sense of closure on the series, as this is how I interpreted the canon despite missing some pieces.
    Most audiences sought outlandish explanations for things, and I think that's part of the work; in a story about systematic gaslighting and abuse it seems apt for the audience to pursue those types of explanations instead of the things that should seemingly be "obvious." Like a child's mind rationalizing the abuse they have suffered; It seems dark, confusing, and disorienting, which is where everything in both Petscop the game and the series are trying to take you.
    Is Paul trans? Is the game actually for making AI? Is there a ghost trapped in it? These explanations all dodge the thing the creator, Paul, Rainer, and maybe even the family wanted us to see from the start. The only thing we know for certain there was/is a group of people convincing children to not be themselves, literally; with said victims potentially facing unspoken physical violence as well. I think that's the core of this series. Just the feeling of shock and unresolved angst and confusion these types of events can leave you with.
    Petscop definitely has some problems with it's presentation and story, but I think it achieves more than it fails at. It was fun watching the original run and it was fun watching your video.

    I am not a professional editor or anything, though I do write for a hobby from time to time, but you have quite a bit of talent! It really makes me curious about your other works, I'll look into whether I can find them on EU Amazon. Otherwise, I'll make a US account.
    I was especially surprised by the level of cohesion the story had. Like, you have the best integration of Belle/Tiara I've ever encountered, bar none. Her part of the story is still one I find difficult to interpret, and while your interpretation differs greatly from mine, I commend the way you made it all click. That rings true for most choices you've made. While my headcanon is different, some points you make, leave me reconsidering my own views.

    I’ve been interested in petscop for a while now. I very much agree with all of your points and it’s my first time coming across someone who also thinks that Petscop is about the story of the family and nothing paranormal is happening that takes away from (in my opinion) the point of the game. I do agree Micheal was hit by a car chasing the dog, however, one thing I think you should take into consideration is if it was *Marvin* that ran over Micheal. Would Daniel really not hold it against him?
    *(Please note that what I’m about to say is based off of the current theories we share)*
    The death of his brother was enough to drive Daniel (who is clearly a person of intelligence) to kidnap a child, believe in the delusion of rebirth, and even attempt to rebirth a child. Marvin was a man who Daniel hated enough to have the willpower to solve his friend’s disappearance (which went 20 years unsolved) and spend a year making a video game based around Marvin’s wrongdoings and past.
    As well as, if Linas death was an accident, Daniel knew that. Yet in the game, he almost comes off as if he’s teasing Marvin over what happened to Lina, despite Marvin playing no part in it. Daniel definitely shows that he can both view something as an accident, yet still (somewhat) hold it against Marvin.
    Considering Daniel’s character would he really put no blame onto Marvin? Especially to the extent that Micheal is barely even mentioned in the game that was made to torment Marvin.
    PS: Of course this is in no way a criticism, this is just me sharing my opinion since we seem to view petscop in a very similar way and I thought you may be interested to hear a contradicting point from an adjacent perspective. All in all, these are very solid and well thought-out theories and I’m excited for the full analysis if you make one.

    My forever theory for Paul and Care is that Paul is part of a DID / OSDD system and is trans.
    From what I know, DID and OSDD are always caused by severe trauma when a child is very young, very often child abuse, before 5 years if I recall. This tracks with Care's story and I feel that she easily could've had more trauma prior since even Care A seems unhappy and dissociated.
    Since it happens so young, it disrupts the child's ability for the parts of their consciousness to fuse, and so they never do. And, in DID / OSDD there's always an Apparently Normal Part that is protected from the traumatic memories that other parts will hold or have access too. There can be memories that will slip through the cracks though.
    Paul is the Apparently Normal Part. He formed after Care's trauma and took over as the host (the part of the system that is in control of the body most often.) He always conceived himself as male and so legally transitioned. Even though he's aware of being trans I think it's possible for the memory of his former name to have blocked out as it could be a reminder of trauma.
    Care in this case represents the part(s) that hold all the traumatic memories and Paul is just now coming into contact with them. I figure for some of the playthrough he's dissociating at least somewhat because he's not supposed to see any of this. There could be other parts of the system taking over, like a protector. Rainer may have wanted to remind Paul, thinking the rebirthing worked in some awful way, but to my knowledge this is a very poor way to tell a system about their past.
    I think the fact that it accounts for a lot of the confusion between their two identities, as well as the clear links to child abuse and trauma make it a great candidate. The themes of Petscop work very well with DID and OSDD.
    Plus, DID / OSDD are surprisingly covert most of the time. The only clue you could have into someone being part of a system, in my experience anyway, is occasional gaps in memory and opinions that seem to change randomly. The other parts of the system know how to blend in with the host fairly well. If Paul is part of a system I don't think it would be clear to his estranged family or the audience. Maybe only Belle and Rainer in my opinion. Lina too if she's alive.

    sorry i had to stop watching when you said that it was unrealistic for paul to repress and alter memories of his traumatic childhood but it makes perfect sense that his mom would be able to convince him that his sister didnt exist

    • @playmaster_plus
      @playmaster_plus  Před 3 měsíci +4

      Yeah I'm not saying it's impossible for him to have repressed memories, just the severity of the repression with some memories and the selective recall of others from the similar time period deterred me from concluding that that would be a definitive explanation for him previously being Care

      @existemoo Před 3 měsíci +4

      @@playmaster_plus my understanding is that when someone has repressed memories its not blanket amnesia, but holes relating to the trauma that are filled in with false memories. also i think repressed memories due to trauma makes more thematic sense than missing memories due to being sheltered

      Please correct me if you think I’m mistaken but the only issue with the Paul=care and repressed the memories theory, is that repressed memories don’t stay repressed forever. Your brain represses memories in childhood to protect your mental state while you are in that environment. The thing about that is, once you’re out of a toxic environment and your brain thinks you are “safe” the memories reappear when provoked with a trigger.
      Paul is confirmed to be a landlord, meaning that it is highly unlikely that he is still living with his family and probably hasn’t been for a while now (he is 25 at this point). In petscop 7, Paul seeing the [censored object] should have been enough to uncover at least some of these memories, since it was something that very clearly related to him around 1997 (the year the repressed memories are from). Petscop 7 is the first video posted where the channel is being run by the family. Paul is quite open about the fact that he had been very distant with his family up until this point. Petscop 6 was posted 9 days before this. 9 days is no where near enough time for his adult brain to feel the need to repress these memories once more.
      So yes, it is most definitely possible that paul=care with repressed memories, but technically speaking, it’s highly unlikely.

    Has anyone here actually read the novella the creator wrote? It's really not that deep. Petscop is based on that novella. It's an absurdist piece of literature and a lot of it doesn't have any deeper meaning to it.

    • @playmaster_plus
      @playmaster_plus  Před 4 měsíci +3

      I've read it, and Petscop the web series differs from it so much that I think its best to view them as separate stories completely (although the inspiration/parallels can certainly be drawn)

      this was so good!! Excuse me! The beauty of petscop is that it is not to be solved objectively. So I don't fully see eye to eye with your interpretation (i still firmly believe Paul is Care), but this video still had a great attention to detail i have been craving and unsatisfied by in most other theories. You opened my eyes to details i neglected, like marvin typing "did you dig" to tool which i never noticed or have seen discussed. I'm also VERY glad that you explored the possibility of the game having been tampered with in a modern setting as i had already believed it myself and it was just great not to feel alone in that lol.. petscop is fascinating!! Thank you for these videos

    Unfortunately, you can't really go on your way to claim you "solved" the game especially if what you're saying is all about theories. Petscop is too complex to solve even if you think you're going by 100% logical process, this game's sense of logic works differently.
