If I lived in the country like you I'd get a Minion sized collar for my Chihuahua. Since I live in the desert with a 5 acre yard that's fenced and cross fenced. His yard is inside 2 other fences so for him to get out he'd have to dig under 3 fences, be carried off by a coyote, mountain lion, bobcat, barn owl or a large hawk. I go out and sit with him and throw his toys for him to chase. It's extremely rare for him to be alone outside, but sometimes nature calls at the most inopportune time. Hail Lord Minon and Sir Azlan.

Y not consider fencing up ur properties? Maybe u can fence up different segments n that wud definitely ensure ur dogs safety especially in the winter when everything is white...

I currently have (and used for about 6 years) a radio style collar called Marco-Pollo. It is a simplified and cheaper version of the first one you talked about. I also have piss poor cell service and another cell based system didn’t work for me. The Marco-Pollo battery lasts up to a month because it only tracks when you ask it to track, hence the Marco-Pollo name. You have to enable the hand held receiver, it transmitts a "where are you" signal and then and only then does the collar transmit a signal. It still only gives you a direction and signal strength. You have to keep walking around and walk in direction of signal until the dog is found. Its saved some frantic searching for my blue healer that occasionally gets extremely distracted by rabbits and ignores me or has tunnel vision and doesn't hear me calling her.
Im actually intrested in upgrading to an improved version of what I have so that orange collar im going to look into it.

I respect the fuck out of your channel. Over a million subscribers yet you still take the time to review products and help inform others. Plus your dogs are absolutely amazing! Minion is one of the best trained dogs I have seen, especially because the stuff you teach him is exactly the kind of stuff I would want a dog to do (aka be a silly little goober). It’s really cool to see how you achieved that by watching you raise Az, and cool to see the different skill sets you focus on with him as a guardian.

The Garmin is a 2 part system, the collar is a Tt25, idk what the handheld is you show but there's different models. We've always had good luck with Garmin 300 Alpha and 300i handhelds, the Garmin is made for hunting dogs that will wear the collar periodically not permanently, even using the Garmin out of it's intended use it's still proving to be a good choice lol.

That Garmin collar is very expensive for what it is, I'm not 100% sure what GPS receivers cost but knowing how much some of their other products are and how much handheld radios cost, I bet you could probably DIY something like that caller for half the price if you knew where to look for certain components and knew enough about programming to make your own handheld GPS

I have the Fi3, and have struggled with it for about 8 months.
We live on some acreage, with no neighbors, so the wifi signal from our house goes quite far. Bluetooth on the collars also connects about 100 feet away from my phone (line of sight).
I was dealing with issues locating the dogs when they needed to be found now, usually with Fi just saying they're on wifi so they must be home.
Finally got in touch with Fi on a solution, and they are able to disable wifi on the collar. Since I already don't leave the base plugged in, this means the collar attaches to my phone or to cell for a ping home. This dropped the battery life from 4 weeks to about 2 weeks.
We do have spotty cell reception, but the app remembers the last location, so it narrows down the direction we need to head to find the dog.
Hopefully someone else with similar problems can disable the wifi to get a usable product as well.

I use tractive, mainly when there is corn growing around my house. I like it because my dog only needs one collar for it, I would have went with fi and ran one collar but I have to have a THICK collar on my dog for whenever he is on his chain or leash so tractive is good because I can put it on any collar, and take it off of him during winter. App is good too. It can work for weeks on a single charge as well. It is kind of big tho

The most honest review of any Garmin product I think I've ever seen. Me and my father Go off-roading occasionally and he's wanted a GPS device that does not rely on cell service and he ended up buying a Garmin GPS and it's so clunky and it doesn't even do the things he needs it to do, and he ended up buying it because all of their reviews are paid reviews and they don't disclose that they're paid.
I greatly appreciate mentioning that this feels like a device from the early 2000s

My chihuahuas are microchipped and are not allowed out of my sight in our yard. Thankfully, they don’t seem to have any interest in wandering. I think that’s because both of them are spayed/neutered and don’t have that hormonal interest to wander. Now if I could just get the few stray dogs that wander our neighborhood to stay out of my yard! LOL!

I was wondering about the weight of the collar? Not so much for Az. But since Minion is a smaller dog I was wondering if he noticed the possible added weight or moved differently when the collar was first put on him? Both dogs are obviously well taken care of. And I like that Nate spends time training and working with each one. The first time I saw Minion carrying the basket with the eggs in it I thought it was adorable. But also I like that he has certain tasks they he does to help out.

Hey Nate, I have a few simple questions for you, and some text under so you can understand why am I asking questions that Google could answer (no it could not) and why to you? Because I trust you, you always disclose sponsorships, and you wouldn't lie out of greed to us -I think- , and because it's your video touching on this topic haha. If you did answer them and I didn't hear it/didn't see that video I'm sorry.
    1. *SO MY QUESTION IS, BASICALLY HOW LONG DOES THE BATTERY LAST IN GARMIN COLLAR, I KNOW IT PROBABLY FLUCTUATES EVERY CYCLE, BUT ROUGH AVERAGE OF ITS CYCLE LIFESPAN? AND DO YOU HAVE A NORMAL BATTERY (50-60H ACCORDING TO DIFFERENT WORDS OF GARMIN) OR THE BIGGER ONE (125-140H). DO YOU HAVE JUST ONE BATTERY, I ASK BECAUSE YOU CAN BUY A SECOND ONE SO YOU CAN CHANGE THE BATTERY ($79.99 SMALLER ONE, $99,99 BIGGER ONE), PUT THE FULL ONE IN A COLLAR, AND TAKE EMPTY TO CHARGING. YOU WOULDN'T NEED TO JUGGLE COLLARS*
You did mention the battery life of all the collars besides your Garmin TT25 (orange one), I know you didn't do that on purpose. Yes, I did google it but there are different averages from different uses. Even Garmin's salesperson put different battery life on different websites and stores where they advertise their product. The duration from Garmin themselves is changing in the specification on the different sites. Even if they were to be consistent across all of those shops the problem is that companies always list the absolute maximum battery life tested in a perfect condition. Nothing wrong with that, in my opinion, it is a little disingenuous but for sure NOT false advertising, basically morally grey marketing. I prefer to hear from folks who use it than a company, especially used one for months but that period treats more to the second question than this. (it would be awesome if you could also write THE LONGEST it worked and THE QUICKEST battery had üńaIivęd, also an estimate unless you have that data)
    2. *DID YOU NOTICE THAT BATTERY DURATION IS SMALLER EVERY CYCLE OR DOES IT KEEP THE "PROMISED" DURATION FOR AT LEAST (2-3 YEARS AS IS STANDARD IN ANY GOOD BATTERY-POWERED DEVICE THE INDUSTRY)?*
You have said that you've used them, for quite some time may I add, and I believe if that thing was a problem it would already be clearly visible. I'm sure you would catch that if it shrunk even in 1/4 of the length. If it goes bad can you just buy and replace the battery pack, if the electronics and GPS are still rock solid? But I'd probably buy a new one if after let's say 1.5-2 years battery started to die, and electronics would soon follow suit.
If you know, could you also write THE LONGEST it had worked and THE QUICKEST battery had run out, just a rough estimate? But knowing you, you didn't let it discharge haha.
And I will write something you might know but if you don't then it might help you a lot next time.
While researching Garmin I came across different models from different companies and I saw something interesting, most of those expensive ones (like Garmin) have two options 1. GPS, which has an insane range as you said yourself but eats battery like crazy, and 2. VHF (Very High Frequency) tags transmit a VHF radio signal which can be detected from the ground or air by a radio receiver, and the battery gets discharged 3-4 times slower. And you can put a SIM card in it too, so it's amazing for emergencies. If the collar had 2 hours left, and the pup ran away you could change to VHF so you have 8 hours to find a puppy and if it stopped giving you a signal then maybe the dog has a good signal from the tower and sends you coordinates that way, which wouldn't be possible through radio waves (both GPS and VHF). And you don't need all three to be on, just one of them, depending on the situation of course. Maybe that would be a good option for you if one of them starts malfunctioning, but I think with Garmin and a second BIG battery you are safe for now.
