- Hello Everyone! Today I am really excited to reveal to you my NEW EASY Pearl Cell Pour Recipe. I stumbled upon the recipe while trying to create a cloud pour unsuccessfully. I needed to wait longer to pour the cloud pour after I poured and the results were disasterous. I decided to water down the recipe from @WillieBStudios to see what would happen and I ended up with a pearl explosion! SO that got my gears turning and this is the result of my experiments! 2- 12"x12" Gallery Wrapped Level 3 Canvas (ARTIST LOFT)
3 - 9"x12" Practice Level 1 Canvases
Modern Masters: Champaign
This Little Piggy Pigments (TLP): Prehnite, Waterfall, Athena, Grenache, Sockeye
Custom Light Blue (TLP Hammerhead + Amsterdam Sky Blue Light)
Amsterdam: Azo Orange, Permanent Red Violet, Sky Blue Light, Light Gold
NEW PEARL CELL RECIPE:
1 Part Vallejo Pearl Medium (link to buy: www.dickblick....)
1 Part Liquitex Titanium White (OR COLOR PAINT)
2-3 Parts US Flood Floetrol
Water to consistency (no trace- sinks in the cup)
Pouring Medium for PUDDLE/POUR OVER/DUTCH POUR paints:
50% Floetrol 50% Golden GAC 800 (or Golden Color Pouring Medium Gloss)
Puddle & Dutch Pour Paints mixed 1 pt paint to 5 pts PM and water to consistency (tube paint approximately 1 part water, fluid paint no water) (This is the ratio for highly pigmented paints like Golden, Amsterdam, Pebeo, etc)
No silicone used for cells. It was all the layering of the paints that made those cool effects.

Looks fantastic! I do have questions though: 1) can I use pouring medium instead of US floetrol? And 2) in which of the colours do I need to put the pearl medium to create the cells? Is it the base colour (so the pearls come up) or the top colour (which make it sink down)?
Thank you so much! 1. So I have never used anything but floetrol but I assume PM would work. You’ll have to give it a shot and let me know! 2. You would only use the Vallejo in the base coat. I recommend using it with white to start with. It can be a tricky technique. ❤️

Hi Tara, I've been working on different ratios with pearls and haven't had great results, is this Vallejo Pouring medium or is it the Vallejo Iridescent Pouring medium you're using? I just want to make certain I buy the right one! Thanks for always trying new things and sharing your information with everyone. 🙏🥰
You are so welcome Susan! I know pearls can be tricky and you can have all the ingredients right but if your consistency is off it can through off all the results and that can be very frustrating! I will be doing a mixing and consistency video soon so I hope that will help. As far as the medium: it is the Vallejo Pearlesence Medium. I believe the bottle just says Pearl Medium on it though. I put a link to it in my description box where the recipe is. I hope this helps and I hope you have success! 🙏🏻☺️❤️

Beautiful! Could you please tell me how you mixed the champagne base color?
Thanks Judy. I mixed the Champaign color the same as the rest of my colors. The recipe is in the description box. This Champaign is Modern Masters and is one of few metallics that will pearl. This color is the the base color. It is a pour over color. The basecoat is the white and it is the satin enamel recipe. I hope this helps. 🙏🏻☺️❤️

I have never tried them with this formula. That being said I have tried the Amsterdam with another recipe and it does not do well with the pearls. I fell like its worth a try though! I'd love to hear if you experiment with it and what your results are!
Are you referring to the vallejo pearl medium meaning the “Vallejo Acrylic Pearlescent Iridescent Medium”. I cannot locate a Vallejo Pearl Medium.
Yes you are correct. There is some old packaging that called it pearl medium so that’s what I refer to it as but you are correct!
These are beautiful. So do most Liquitex colours work to make different coloured pearls? Or do some work better than others?

Sooo…that is a really good question. I used to use Amsterdam all the time but sometimes is makes really chalky pearls. I prefer to use more of the fluid paints. They tend to make the least chalky pearls. I hope this makes sense. Saying that…I think each individual has to find what works best for them…maybe you can make the Amsterdam work where I haven’t been as successful. The Amsterdam colors work nice for pour over colors though. ☺️❤️🙏🏻
Hi Tara, new sub here, great video, love all your videos that I've watched so far !! I learned the Pearl Pour wayyy back when Elyse Fournier & Mely D started them & always got great results, but I haven't done one in YEARS & I've been on a search for a newer simpler way & this by far is the best !! Thank you for all your testing & sharing your great results !! I have always LOVED Vallejo pearl medium & use it in a lot of my cloud pours, those are actually the 2 techniques I learned when I first started pouring (nothing like starting with the "hair pullers" right from the get go) 😂😂. I do have a question if I may, did you rule out any other brands of Titanium to get to the conclusion of Liquitex working best for you ? I was just curious if Amsterdam would work in place of Liquitex & just wondered what thoughts you might have on that before I give it a try, (of course) Liquitex titanium isn't one of the MANY colors of Liquitex that I already have in my supplies lol. I cannot get over the difference with this new 3 ingredient pearl mix. I went back and viewed again some videos where you used the mix with a thousand ingredients (okay, a bit exaggerated) and it was more hit or miss on if you had a pearl takeover or wonky cells because they popped up so fast in tilting.
I’m about to check the cost of the pearl medium (drum roll) as I’ve spent so much on my painting passion and don’t really make any money on it. So less ingredients are great but only if it’s cost effective. I have to keep in mind that I scraped quite a few where the pearl explosion occurred and could only reuse that in another type of pour. I wouldn’t say it was wasted but it didn’t produce what I wanted originally.
I hope the new recipe works well for you. It is much easier to mix than the one with many many ingredients. Keep me posted on your success!

Once I have the three ingredients is that just for my pour on the canvas? And then how do I mix the colored paints? What is the white on your campus, flotrol? I purchased the three ingredients, very new to this and now what do I do with them I know it sounds ridiculous
Hi Christine! Not ridiculous! The base paint is mixed with the Vallejo Pearl medium, floetrol, artist loft white paint, and water. That all goes on the base of the canvas. The colors are mixed with floetrol, paint and water. I suggest that you go back and watch some of my paint mixing videos and other pearl pour videos to get a feel for the technique. I hope this helps and I’m excited for you to embark on this pouring journey. ☺️❤️🙏🏻
