They said it was patched but in my short test I can't tell the difference. I'm sure I could have been more rigorous but I kept it simple and used the weakest enemy in the game as a test. With no obvious advantage at play, light armor still seems like king. Maybe you can tell me what this armor does?
I checked the frame by frame of both tests and don't SEE any headshots. I'll try more tests when I have a chance.

    UPDATE: I tested this further.
    1. Headshots still do huge damage.
    2. Bots crit and crit often
    3. Damage is reduced on limbs and body shots.
    4. I received a critical hit or headshot 5/5 tests
    5. I usually died in 5 hits.
    6. My toughest armor is a 150AR
My opinion based on testing so far is that at this EARLY stage of testing: against bots, armor isn't very helpful. I've seen the data showing against Bugs its pretty solid.

thats several factors at work so probability is in play. Taking hits is a gamble regardless. Heavy armor improves your odds but by near negligable margins. Still something though. And most heavy sets have the 30% reduction to explosive damage. The stats could be higher, for the stamina drain you take for wearing heavy.

Armor in the OG Helldivers was a beautiful thing. Standard enemies couldn't really touch you, but made it incredibly hard to dodge heavier stuff. If it was the same here, I believe the jump pack could find a lot of use and the upcoming vehicles would give ya ways to quickly travel from POI to POI. Yeah I think with the armor bug on launch, they accidentally made light armor viable with effective medium protection and set a standard. Now that it's to its intended value, it's unusable. Way too fragile. They really should make light 100, medium 150 and heavy 200 maybe even 250 at a minimum. Speed is so important and even on the small area defense missions, medium is almost too slow and heavy is way too slow.

It is "fixed" but it has the problem everyone knew it would, it ends up being a "sometimes you can take one or two extra hits!" kind of heavy armor and not "you can tank it all, baby."
I think the biggest issue of all is that light armor lets you dodge (and sometimes outrun and ignore) heavy attacks from enemies. Heavy armor forces you to take the attack but it doesn't do enough to make it worth that trade. It still either cripples you to near zero health, or itll just outright one hit kill you regardless of your armor.
My tests were done with the fortified commando armor with a rating of 200. Extremely underwhelming for the highest armor stat in the game.

Against bugs, heavy armour lets you survive situations that you wouldn't even be in without heavy armour.
The fluff says that heavy armour is servo-assisted, so even if the protection is only marginally better, let us, for the mobility we lose, carry more stims/grenades/ammo and have way less recoil.

I think Arrowhead has done a good job! I've done what I can to update the video, pinned comment and thumbnail as I gained more info. But I think its okay sometimes to seek a quick answer to a simple question. My conclusion proved out pretty well. Due to crit mechanics and bot shooting damage seems to really make heavy armor not very worth it when fighting specifically bots. My shield video is 10 minutes long and took like 15 hours and 3 days to make. Its very thorough by comparison.
I want heavy bolter for ogryn.

@@Reginald-sc9tk quick ogryn ideas " glue two kickbacks together ; give TWO bullgrin granade lunchers for each arm of the ogryn; lastly the ogryn could use two handed weapons.
Back to helldivers, well.. armor becomes pointless when you got energy shields and movement oh and mechs sooo i guess it's meant to be a psychological tool.
Personally I feel VERY brave in heavy armor sets and with the ballistic shield and defender smg i feel like a damn terminator space marine... on that note we need portable miniguns.
