      I know, me too. He was a prodigy on the guitar. He could play anything on his guitar by the time he was 8 years old.
      At least now Mary we can appreciate all that he’s accomplished. 🙂❤️

      It is not even close…..not even in the same dimension….Glen Campbell is almost without peer in his talent and variety and skill. I am blessed to have been able to see and hear his talent.

      Absoulutly correct. Standing on a stage screaming F-bombs and seeing how much of your ass crack you can get a way with by this new fad or whatever a person calls it?Glen had style, amazing song writing talent, voice was one of a kind, his picking on his guitar was and still is a pure pleasure to listen to. True musician and singer songwriter that have gone sadly passed on. Thanks Glen Travis Campbell .

    I love how Kris Kristofferson puts his head back and closes his eyes when Glen sings the line "And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time." He's probably heard it a thousand times but theres something about the song and that line that really digs at your soul. RIP Glen Campbell your songs will live forever in so many hearts.

      I heard Chris say many years ago in an interview that "I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time" is one of the greatest song lyrics ever written. I'm sure that's what he's reacting to.

      I really like the composition of that verse. He establishes that his need is greater than what he wants but then says that his want is basically limitless. In my opinion he is saying that his want of her and his need of her is immeasurable!

      @@glenmorgan4597 The future is nothing without our better half. The future of our family, country, and maybe the world. Our life is bound up in others, and yet we experience a lot of life alone anyway. We have no choice but to work hard, if not for ourselves for them. Some knowledge that might have been acquired at great personal cost since they don't teach much about such things in school. The world has trended toward disposable relationships, so there is an heroic aspect of standing firm against change. That's my long winded take on these 15 words, anyway.

      Yes, that's why I find it hard to hear, more so to watch the great Glen play and sing. Glad to know I am not the only only who feels this song remembering it coming out the old radio in our house, as a kid, knowing something quite haunting is accurate. The Ameriana part too, an era, a time, we will never see again, so I get sad.

    Comment from another video of this song: "My Dad was a lineman in the Midwest for 35 years.
    He walked in 5 minutes late to work one morning and his boss asked him why he was late.
    He explained that Wichita Lineman came on the radio as he was pulling in.
    The whole crew nodded approvingly and his boss said it was an acceptable excuse.
    Glen Campbell was such a legend."

    This song reminds of when I was a front line teenage grunt Marine Rifleman in Vietnam 1968. It was playing all the time on armed forces radio, it gave me much comfort to hear this song over & over again. At the time I had doubts if I’d ever make it back home alive.

      While you listened to it in Vietnam I heard it as a small child curled up in and out of sleep in the back seat of the car on long drives.
      Welcome home, God Bless you and thanks for serving our Great nation.

    It’s 1969 my dad is 40 years old has 6 kids and my mom. We load the new Ford station wagon he just bought and we head for Michigan. It’s the first new car I’ve ever been in.As we leave NYC he turns on the radio and this song comes on. It becomes a massive hit and as we travel I notice telephone lines,truckers,mid western Cowboys and magical guitar players,and this song on most radio stations. Thank You Glen you made my Dad A Country music fan. Peace.

    I liked Glen when I was a little boy. Then I went down the rock n roll path. I don’t regret that, but here I am again

      Glen was in The Wrecking Crew and played on many a pop and rock song. He could play any music to perfection. I am more rock than country but Glen is one of a kind.

    The woman singing harmony behind Glen was the icing on the cake for me, and that Gm chord! It's interesting how the staccato throughout is an imitation of electricity running through the wires.

      We saw Jimmy in 2019 at Grand Theater in Lewisville, Texas. Would have paid 10 times the price we did before the show and 100 times the price after. What talent. Great writer and story teller. 300 people or so sized place. Blew us away.

      My good crazy friend Billy McPherson who was the sax player for Buddy Miles used to play for Jimmy Webb in LA. I said " You played in the studio for Jim Webb, why'd you leave?". He said " there's nothing to do there but go to the pancake House ".

      For my money the finest writer ever. The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress is the greatest song I ever heard and I was lucky to see him do it from the front row when Jimmy came here to the Detroit area a few years back. Front row for the next one too in Ann Arbor next year!

      @@88pynogrl I think it was a bit of a shifting cast. GC was only there for part as Willie Nelson was sitting in that spot for other artists. Kris Kristofferson was sitting alongside him. The row behind him was Crystal Gayle, BJ Thomas & Janie Fricke. In the next bank of seats were Gene Watson & Barbara Fairchild (back row) & Bobby Bare & Lorrie Morgan (front row). Not seen in this clip but definitely on the show were Chet Atkins, Mel Tillis, Porter Wagoner, the Geezinslaw Brothers. Definitely a few others but these are the ones I saw/heard on clips of the show

    I like that too. A bolt of lightening hit Kris when he heard “And I need you more than want you” and he kept cutting his eyes at Glen. Kris was a Rhodes Scholar who has had intense exposure to the best of poetry and literature the world has to offer. He sure appreciated the genius of Jimmy Webb, who wrote Wichita and several other great hits like McArthur Park, Galveston, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, etc. Wichita Lineman is as deep as anything, lyrically and melodically. Masterpiece.

    Glen’s resume is STACKED!! Between The Wrecking Crew, The Beach Boys, and his own catalog and TV show, he’s truly one of kind!
    PS- he also did the voice to a cartoon from when I was a kid called Rock-a-doodle-doo.

      Amazing that he was so highly respected among the top tier musicians known as the "Wrecking Crew". Musicians that could sightread & play pretty much any type of music. Most came from the jazz and big band era. Gives you a measure of his talent that they all recognized. Glen couldn't read music but played from his heart.

    Campbell was truly an amazing guitar player. Eddie Van Halen even once said in an interview that he thought that Glen Campbell was one of the finest guitar players there ever was.

    What I love best about these country star gatherings is when Glen plays and the others realize this is one fantastic genius on all aspects of his entertaining all of us. He is so perfect on his guitar playing, you see the other guys who play just so happy and mesmerized as to how he can play so perfectly and in detail live, on the spot. He is truly a professional musician and singer, and handsome entertainer.

      Not underrated at all. Maybe by some that didn't bother to listen, but not by millions and millions of fans and his peers. Save "underrated" for musicians who never get past obscurity. Glen was and continues to be, rated in the top of singers and guitarists.

    I'm sure many know Eddie V Halen still took lessons from glen well after evh was in his prime. Alice Cooper was one of his best friends and called him one of the top 5 guitar players in the world...What an utter most joy to listen to.

      @@andygossard4293 Glen had a show until late '69. Glen heard our band in Wichita and invited us to play on his show. Went route 66 to L.A. As soon as we got there, his show was canceled But heh, got us out of Kansas and to a better life in the music business. Miss Glen, but he still lives on CZcams.

    I once heard Carol Kaye (original bass player on the recording) say that years after this song was a hit she was shopping and it came on in the store. She said it was so beautiful she broke down in tears. I can see why

    I heard this song when it first put Glenn on the map when I was a little boy and have heard many versions thereafter. However, this rendition with the back-up band and Janie Fricke's harmonies added to Glenn's flawless enunciation of every syllable (like only Glenn can do) and his fret-work fills on the guitar, may be the best recording ever of this timeless classic.

    When a song moves both Crystal and Kris, you know you're "rock'n it"! I love that Glen gave us boomers some really heartfelt songs as kids growing up (60/70's), wasn't half bad in True Grit either. RIP Glen, singing with the, Heavenly Choir now.
