    The rule of putting the cards back under might be due to cards that were taken out or will be implemented in an expansion. But unless you have to shuffle the entire deck at some point, a discard pile for each does the same thing. Shuffle when the deck empties. A very common rule of decks.
    My guess, something was taken out that needed that rule to be in there.

    This looks riiiiight up my alley! That bit at the end about the house rule makes so much sense

    Love that Rahdo talks about important topics when reviewing games!

    game looks pretty neat! the card piles reminded me a little bit of blackout hong kong, except they dont' trigger the end game if they run out! :) love that concept of using cards for money or for their action, and pretty smart that you could "buy" the cards back from the round discard piles, just like you recovered some in the playthrough when you fulfilled the contract.

    I think they do the shuffle the discarded cards to the bottom of the deck a thing because you can get cards from the discarded pile when you get money... so if you don't shuffle the cards they piles will just grow bigger and there will always be there... if you shuffle the piles you'll have to take cards from the display because at least at the start of each round there might not be any cards on the discard pile

    Excellent game, happy that you cover it. The end of the round did not bother us much, but i get the point. We will try it

    Hy ! I am not comment the game .
    extracting lithium from any place needs clean water. It is similar to fracking for oil based recourses.
    Polution is not restricted to extraction place . Humans and animals need clean water. The arab countrys take the water out of the ocens. The process is not the same as extrcting lithium. But the same problems are generated. They dump the poluted extraxts back in to the oceans. ergo poluting the newly extracted water multiple times in a row.
    What i would like to say is . Green Energy is great. Most countrys do not care much about the next generations.
    Stay healthy !

    This seems like a good fit for me. Let's see when I actually get to play it. Not all of my gaming friends can play this, unfortunately. At least not yet.

    So Rahdo thinks they needed to "drill down a bit more" on the subject matter? They didn't sufficiently *mine* the depths of the topic? Love it XD

    The shuffling the discards at the end of the round doesn't necessarily bother me. When you discard cards as money, they are available to potentially get back, but only during that same round, then at the end, they go away, and get shuffled to the bottom of the draw deck. Fine. That makes perfect sense to me... IF it's not random. What DIDN'T make sense to me is that when you have to grab cards off the discard pile, it's completely random. That seems dumb to me, especially when you DO combine it with the fiddly shuffling at the end. If it's going to be random anyway, you might just as well draw from the top of the draw deck, hoping you get something good, and skip the shuffling at the end. Then, the discard pile is just that. If you want people to be able to get back good actions that got discarded, let them PICK from the discard pile (which I know would slow the game down) and still do the shuffling at the end of the round, or just make it face up, so you can only grab the top one(s), and it would make timing and discard order important, and you could still leave the end of round shuffling. If there's only a random 1 in however many discards there are chance of getting the card you wanted anyway, like I said, just draw off the top of the deck and save the other fiddliness, because there are multiple cards that do similar things, so you would have almost as good a chance of getting what you wanted off the top of the draw deck, as out of a shuffled discard pile with a ton of cards in it.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  Před 4 měsíci

      yeah, tbh i don't like that part either... everything about the cards once they've been spent is wrong imo... they should all just go in a discard pile and be ignored for the rest of the game until you need to rebuild a deck.

    How’s the Solo? Devir has been having issues with their solo modes lately. Like the White Castle.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  Před 4 měsíci +1

      i demoed the solo mode in the main runthrough. i thought it worked pretty well, but i disagree with others that the previous ones are broken. the designer has stated that they made it really hard, such that they themselves only win 1 out of every 6 games, but that's what they wanted.
      i will say the salton automa is much more "normal" in terms of challenge :)

    Thank you Rahdo so much for acknowledging and attempting to educate folx about one of the worst ongoing ecological disasters in my state. It's worth mentioning that part of the blight (partially caused by said lithium mining!) has been dust storms & other factors making awful air quality that has led to generations of kids with debilitating asthma. Something Devir totally failed to address, only contributing to the erasure of mostly poor, POC farmers (those who couldn't afford to abandon ship when all the fish & birds died), who have been failed by government mismanagement for 50 years now.

    Rather than shuffle, why not just flip the discards over and place them at the bottom of the deck, a cousin to the mechanic Aeon's End/Astro Knight?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  Před 4 měsíci

      well i assume the design has you do it this way because you have imperfect information of what you'd get if you decide to draw blind from the discard, but to me it just seems like it slows the game down for not much upside.

      this video does not start or end that way

    • @chimster1234

      I agree. I believe you're referring to the standard intro of "... And I gotta say folks I love this game!" or "I gotta say folks WOW this game is amazing/fantastic, "etc. you'll notice the other reviewers on this channel do the same. We've come to expect this and put a lot of trust and faith in Richard and his team to not fleece us. I'm trusting that Richard does this because he is genuinely excited about the games and only reviews those that he feels may be worthy of our attention. That being said keep in mind these are paid reviews I believe and Richard is quite transparent about that. The online world is monetary and full of shadiness. The lure of financial gain is powerful and some people would do anything for a buck but I need to believe Richard isn't one of them. I understand he does this full time and has bills to pay therefore it's important that channels like this make money in order to provide the service we want. It's got to be tough to balance that though. All I know is I could never lie or fleece someone for financial gain.
      A message to Richard: I think at this point it would be worthwhile to do a review of one of your sponsors games that is not a good game at all and be completely 100% honest and slam it (in a respectful way of course). This would show your viewers that you are willing to potentially sacrifice a relationship with a sponsor and any financial backing provided by that sponsor to show us that you are indeed sincere. That's a pretty big ask but I think it's important in an ever-increasing age of backroom dealings and the fleecing of vulnerable people. If you are unwilling to do that perhaps share the reasons why.

      @@chimster1234 actually this wasn't a sponsored video (those are labelled as previews and have the sponsorship button checked) :)
      and i'm critical about games all the time... so much so i've got an entire thread devoted to it here: niceguy.rahdo.com but it doesn't matter because people only watch a small fraction of what i make (chances are they'll watch the games that are good, because the games that aren't get fewer views, so no surprise they'll see me praising the game, because it's a good game).
      i often ask folks who claim i never crique genuinely bad games point out any of the 2000+ games i've covered over the last decade and just name one where they feel i was actively misleading... saying an objective piece of garbage was actually a winner. and no one can ever do it, because i pass on covering garbage games, because there are hundreds of games that come out every year that are great, so i focus on those :)

    You might have answer: Was the Salton Sea created by people in the first place? With water demand the water no longer reaches this "sea". The old Marine base is where you hung out there?
    lol! (risky I hear...)

      From what I understand the salt and see was a very hopping busy tourist destination for beach commerce and family outings however due to runoff of fertilizers and pesticides the lake became very anaerobic. There's a few good documentaries on it that you can watch on CZcams.
