During the Middle Ages, hospitals served different functions from modern institutions. Middle Ages hospitals were almshouses for the poor, hostels for pilgrims, or hospital schools. The word "hospital" comes from the Latin hospes, signifying a stranger or foreigner, hence a guest. Another noun derived from this, hospitium came to signify hospitality, that is the relation between guest and shelterer, hospitality, friendliness, and hospitable reception. By metonymy, the Latin word then came to mean a guest-chamber, guest's lodging, an inn. Hospes is thus the root for the English words host (where the p was dropped for convenience of pronunciation) hospitality, hospice, hostel, and hotel. The latter modern word derives from Latin via the ancient French romance word hostel, which developed a silent s, which letter was eventually removed from the word, the loss of which is signified by a circumflex in the modern French word hôtel. The German word 'Spital' shares similar roots.
The grammar of the word differs slightly depending on the dialect. In the United States, hospital usually requires an article; in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, the word normally is used without an article when it is the object of a preposition and when referring to a patient ("in/to the hospital" vs. "in/to hospital"); in Canada, both uses are found.

I don’t know why hospitals are calming, but they are one of my most favorite places on earth. I love the very cold dark feeling that they have. I grew up in hospitals, either visiting someone, or being in there myself. I think when going under the gas and your about to fall asleep, the last thing you hear is the ambience. Which is very calming for me.
Bro the gas omg that used to terrify me the feeling of losing control and I felt like I was dying
Opposite for me. The hospital is the last place on earth I’d ever want to be.
Losing control of what?

Being in a hospital can be so relieving. For someone with social anxiety who spends most of their life in social isolation, its nice to be in an environment where you're around people but you're not surrounded, they're off going about their own business, you're not the center of attention, but you feel like you matter to people and they care about you. For me its the only time I ever really feel content instead of depression or anxiety
I use this whenever I'm having an anxiety episode. It helps me sleep. I've been dealing with an undiagnosed anxiety disorder for over a year now and the thought of being in a place surround by highly trained medical personnel who are just a few feet away, calm me down. There were times that I would check myself into the emergency room just so my anxiety would calm down and sleep for a little bit then get discharged. I would start feeling bad for taking a hospital bed for someone who really needs it. Thank God I have health insurance lol. Thank you for uploading this. It really helps my nerves and my wallet from the hospital bills lol
I was recently diagnosed with anxiety disorder and I literally relate. I went to the ER two days ago and my anxiety went down because I knew there were nurses by me. I experienced another episode last night but fell asleep using this. It’s the best.
Thank you for this. I'm writing a book and the current scene is in a hospital. It really helps me to imagine myself there when I can hear these sounds in the background. I appreciate you making this!
This hits different when you grow up being hospitalized then now missed the ambiance
Everyone thinks I'm weird for liking hospitals. It's just so calming with the talking in the halls and speaker. The little beeping and clattering is peaceful to me.
Honestly, every hospital sound is just white noise to me now. I’m there basically every night.

Just thought you should know I've been using your audio for so long to sleep. I often go to the hospital for multiple attempts and often have to stay and I've grown used to the sounds and without them I go into a panic and cannot sleep so thank you for this. ❤
I wish you all the best. I'm glad that you find video useful. Fight on.
How are you 3 years later?
I can’t believe I found these sounds, it’s so perfect. It’s so relaxing to me. I have been to the hospital dozens of times and something about knowing you’re safe made these sounds grow on me. I always slept so well because when your sick at a hospital, you’re supposed to sleep lol just rest and let others take care of you and make you better. I never want to go back to the hospital but I miss the sounds I’d fall asleep to there, so thank you!
Hi. Glad to hear you find this helpful:) there are a couple of more videos like this on this channel. Regards.
I work at a hospital and sometimes I've got to sleep in the patient area, this is perfect, all it's missing is nurse gossip
"Did you hear what Mr. Langley from room 104 said about the other nurse? No- the one with the brown hair. The one we dont know? Yeaah! That chick! Heh. Anyway, you open for brunch this Saturday?"
This is extremely accurate. Part 2 and 4 are the most accurate. Been in and out of the hospital the last year. This is oddly calming for me. I probably spent like 2 2 weeks all together there.
Thank you for the comment. I wish you better health this year.
I practically grew up in hospitals (I'm 26 now) so this stuff is super calming for me.
This is relaxing for some reason.
I m a medstudent and I m listening to this while preparing fir my exams it really motivates me
Good luck with your exams!
How's med school treating you?
Guess now you're done with your studies or still in it?
Probably in residency at this point
I'm chronically ill and spent the first five months of my life in hospital and still have to go there regularly for checkups etc. Everyone always thinks I must hate being in the hospital, but for some reason, hospitals are one of my favorite places to be. It's what I've always known and they feel so safe and familiar to me.
When I searched for this ambience, I thought "there's no way someone made an ambience with hospital sounds", but I'm so glad I found it and reading comments from other people who also find these sounds calming is makes me feel like I'm not weird.
So thank you for this!

Mar. 29th 2019
14 hours, no clue if I was gonna make it.
I remember looking up at the light in the o.r. before it started
Next thing I know I hear a soft voice calling my name
I had no idea what was going on for a few mins
I could see 3 shadow figures standing around me as I tried to focus my eyes
Couldn't make out who it was
But I heard the voice say
Your going to be ok
I felt so comforted by this voice
I've since made a almost full recovery
These sounds make me feel safe and secure
That's a rough story. I'm glad you've survived. Please, enjoy the sounds.
I thought i'd make a note of my life here. Some sort of vent.
These hospital noises are all to normalized to me. When i was a baby i had cancer. I have a form of excema that stops me from going out in winter and summer. I have autism. My immune system is weak and also i suffer from paranoia.
These hospital noises bring back memories especially hearing the children. Its both beautiful but also traumatizing. Im from northern ireland also. I grew up in a different country though and that was strange. I didnt understand what people were saying and stuff. Their accents sounded foreign and alien to me. Causing me to have social anxiety.
I used to hate hospital severly. But now. I know if i didnt go to the hospital my life would be bad. I had to go there for psycharitric help and also physical help and now im in highschool. I only now started it and yet it still feels like my life is new to me. I have missed out so many years of my childhood. So many happy memories. All because of my health problems. But this audio sends me back. Its calming. It makes me forget my guilt.
All i wish is for someday i get blessed with a normal life. I have fallen out with multiple people but now it feels like i can finally start a new.
In my new highschool i have friends. Friends i can show the side of me i couldnt fake infront of my old "friends" im happier like this.
And even though i miss my family members back home in NI and even though i have fallen out with the country im in right now. It'll do.
Thank you for sharing. One day at a time, one day at a time. Best of luck in high school.
So, I have advanced schizophrenia so I've been to the hospital so many times that it's basically another home. I haven't been there for months now because I haven't been having serious episodes or self-harming. These sounds make the schizophrenic voices shush. It's really soothing to know that I cant hear all the different voices when I'm in an environment like the hospital. Thank you!(^^)!
You're very welcome. I wish you the best of luck and stay healthy!
I just got out of a 4 month hospital stay and this helps so much.

I've always been scared, but at the same time I feel that at some point in my life I will have to experience this little scenario I'm scared of. Of sitting in a hospital bedroom or sitting in the waiting room waiting for the results or waiting for a loved one to recover. It's something I've always been extremely anxious about. And I feel it's going to happen sooner or later.
after having listened to this nearly every single night for the past 2 years, i decided to announce I'm currently becoming a nurse. And my friend jokingly said that it must be this Video that mainly influenced me. Tbh, they might not even be wrong 🥴 so yeah, i am still listening to this, so i can be well rested for my shift in the hospital
I'm just gonna thank you for creating this 🫂 it helped me more than you can imagine
Since I came out of hospital last year, the events have had a profound effect on me. I long for certain aspects of that experience back - the not having to worry about doing much, the comfy bed, the care, the peace - obviously no one likes to be sick, but, I struggle to find people to talk to this about. There's so much positiveness from my stays in hospital that I really miss. I'm glad I'm not alone.
Im currently struggling with myself a lot, I don’t see a other option than su1cid3 idk for who I’m still doing this but listening to this every night before I go to sleep imagining that I’m in a hospital after an attempt and people really caring about me helps me just a little, enough to stay alive
Stay strong dear. ❤

This will probably sound weird but someone asked me, “What is your favorite place to be at?” Truthfully, it’s the hospital. Weird, right? :/ idk if it’s just me but like- I feel like when I’m in the hospital I can just close my eyes and relax. I know if my health conditions flare up I’ll have help right then and there. I don’t have to worry about being somewhere I can’t get medical attention. Idk i have a ton of other reasons but its late here so imma sleep soon. Just saying though- the sounds in this video relieve so much anxiety..
Honestly, me too
I sleep MUCH better when I'm in the hospital, than when I am home! That's because I've been in ICU so much! I LOVE the sounds of the hospital!
I can fall asleep for this. This is so relaxing. The gentle beeping of this heart monitor or whatever it is is putting me to sleep even as I write this comment
i had this one very good dream where i got hurt and the blurry-faced love of my life held my hand while i dozed. hopefully sleeping with this in the background will bring that dream back to me.
This reminds me of when I was in the hospital for a SSA and the anxiousness of waiting for my mom to come and see me there in the bed, feeling out of it from the melatonin waiting for them to transport me, I know that it sounds dark and awful and it was but knowing I was getting help made me feel a little better I’m those shitty times, and I didn’t have my phone to worry about whether or not he cared enough about me to call me and hear my voice even tho I so badly wanted to hear his. It was scary and sad and awful but it always made me feel a little safe. It makes me calm down hearing this now kind of as a reminder that I don’t want to go back to the cold bright room and hard bed with a needle in my arm for a cold IV, it reminds me that I don’t want to be stuck with a thing blanket and have to pee in front of another nurse and ask for one cup of water every three hours waiting for food that taste like cardboard. The chatter too reminds me of how I wasn’t alone finally and I felt like I didn’t have to hold back my pain because they already knew.
these sounds are bringing back the good ole days 😭💗
I use this when building hospitals on Sims 4 because it helps me get the feel of the nostalgia of it and create a better build lol

I often ended up in hospitals for strep throat and speical needs appointments. I also had H1N1 and Whooping Cough right after when I was 9, so this gives me memories of that. Very relaxing, thanks. :)
This is super calming for me. As a baby this was the only noise that calmed me down because I spent the first 10 years of my life in hospital
I spent a lot of time in doctor’s offices and hospitals as a little kid. I had an undiagnosed auto immune disorder, and many of my relatives were dying. Sleeping in a bed or waiting room is nostalgic for me.
its crazy how some people find this relaxing but i guess its just from different experiences like for me while my dad was in a coma before he passed i would sit at his bed side day and night now going into any hospital scares the hell out of me just the smells and the sounds (this is exactly what it sounded like) but I guess if you were in there as a patient and spent your days sleeping there then i guess you got used to it and the sounds at night became your new normal.
I just love these sounds. It helps me sleep.

I just put of the blue got progressively nauseous and went down to my bathroom, and just vomited, vomited, and vomited. Hospitals always make me feel safe or help me sleep - when I felt so nauseous I couldnt breathe I ended up falling asleep even with the background noise.

Hi this video relaxes me because i love the sounds and comfort of hospitals ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ love you thankyou for making it byeeee❤❤
It's strange. I didn't even come here for writing or sleep, though I definitely would have. I never had any real experience staying at a hospital, only small visits to check on family when they get sick, but nothing too serious outside of my grandma's death.
But lately, I've been feeling more attracted to the hospital as a sort of eerie yet relaxing place to be. I guess the sights of the hospital are kind of nostalgic to me? The area wasn't too loud or overwhelming, it wasn't giving any sort of sensory overload when I'm there which was extremely rare as I'm always surrounded by noise.
I don't know how to explain it fully, the feeling is hard to describe.
Noise pollution is a real thing. For some reason, I always smile like an idiot when I notice that I'm finally in some extremely quiet place. I'm glad you like this ambient.
this make me calm, love it so much, thanks for your sharing
Glad you enjoy it!
After spending a week in the hospital, the sounds of the coughing, doors constantly opening and closing, nurses always knocking on the door to take vitals, it drove me insane. The only relaxing sound was the beeping heart monitor
I got used to those sounds and eventually slept right through them
I’ve spent a lot of my life in hospital, the sounds have always given me nostalgia ( not the heart monitor tho, a gastric pump instead )
