  • if you love yourself, you can do anything you want
if you don't love yourself, you won't be able to keep any good things that come your way
and please remember it's a habit, it won't happen overnight if you're starting from a low place but it's worth it

I'm glad this showed up in my suggestions. I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on self-esteem and self-worth. I recently had an epiphany that "low self-esteem" is separate from someone's personality and coping mechanisms (like being a shy, anxious people-pleaser; that person could have low-self esteem, but a confident person with clear boundaries could also have low self-esteem... Like me).. It's like the outer world has whatever presentation, but that inner world is where the self-love resides. The outer world is how we show our self-love, but the inner world is how we feel our self-love.

yes! that’s such a beautiful way to think about it 🫶🏻✨ no matter our outside characteristics, we all have different levels of self esteem that can fluctuate and be rebuilt or strengthened as needed. thank you for the thoughtful comment 💗

You are onto something friend. We shouldn't depend on coping mechanisms, other people, and ourselves to build true self-esteem. If I may flesh this out more.
      1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
In Christianity people called to be more like Jesus, the model of a perfect person. We can never reach that standard but when we pursue that we become sanctified within to be more like him. We can then find true self esteem knowing that who we are is pleasing in the eye of an the eternal sovereign ruler of the universe. How can we lose confidence when our worth is secure in him? It’ s similar to what Yoda said about the Force. He says: "Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is.” He is confident that something transcendent is on his side and so he doesn’t have the lack of self belief that Luke does.
The Roman Emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius also asserts “To put it shortly: all things of the body stream away like a river, all things of the mind are dreams and delusions”.
He continues later, “What then can escort us on our way? One thing and one thing only: philosophy. This consists in keeping with the divinity within us inviolate and free from harm, master of pleasure and pain, doing nothing without aim, truth, or integrity, and independent of others action or failure to act”.
Basically the idea of conjuring up self esteem, confidence, or whatever we want to call it out of nothing is like an air purifier trying to clean itself or saying that salt makes itself saltier which makes no sense since it would be infinitely becoming more salty. Our confidence needs to be grounded in something that points to a transcendent order or standard. This is why being doped up gives you a hit of dopamine the reward chemical yet an addict still feel terrible about themselves because they know that it is only the illusion of artificial accomplishment. They get the sensation of accomplishment but they aren’t actually accomplishing anything.
We feel self love when we know that we are declared lovable and loved by God. But if we just decide ourselves that we our lovable and just fine then it is an illusion since we can arbitrarily do that anytime. It would be the same as if we forced mind control on our crush to get them to like us.
But to be clear this is not the same as saying we need to depend on others to validate our existence. Mankind's judgment is always going to be flawed and worldly. I’m saying that valuing ourself needs to be grounded in something higher and sometimes people can validate that we are in keeping with the divine when they see the fruits of our spirit.

that’s part of life too 🤷🏻‍♀️ nothing is perfect, but even if it feels hopeless, we can always make a little bit of progress to hate ourselves less…. eventually that practice turns more and more into love :)
