A trick my grandpa who've encountered several Bears in his life time used to tell me,
"if you're chased by a bear run down a slope and suddenly change your directions(towards the right or left) and run to safety."
Then again that may not always be possible because you can be miles from the nearest slopes 🤔
Since Bears have a shorter forelimbs it makes them almost impossible to suddenly change directions when running down a slope terrain.
My grandpa told me the same thing. They cant hold the momentum.

I tried the cable tie escape just for fun. It works y’all. Make sure to wear tennis shoes or take some paracord or old shoe laces with you. Shoe laces are useful in sooooo many ways

bear will be paralyzed with laughter so we can make our escape
but seriously though ...pretty sure one needs to try to appear as big as possible and then yell at them in a very high but clear voice that doesn't sound scared (pretty sure they can pick up on those sound vibrations and tell the difference between scared and a possible encounter they don't want to have) and by that making the bear unsure..
but over all. probably should carry a revolver and or bear spray

Its highly unlikely to be a pack they have bigger animals in mind for food, its way more likely to be a single lone wolf which could be ill or injured so they would try to hunt something nice and easy catch
