- My first video for a while, I've been super busy on the van. It is now at a stage where it is usable although it is still by no means finished.
I had booked a trip away to the French Alps over New Year so I had somewhat of a deadline to meet and had to get the key systems of the van working.
In this video I cover the progress that I made on the bench seat (which also slides out to make the second bed - the van can actually sleep 4 people), the window area (frame, sill and blinds) and my custom leaf shaped swivel table.
There is also a sneaky preview to the V-logs of the Franc trip which are in the pipeline!
If you're new to the channel, then welcome! I'm converting a Fiat Ducato L3H2 panel van into my very own luxury vanlife camper van (If you didn't already know, Fiat Ducato's are the same a Citroen Relay, Peugeot Boxer and Ram ProMaster).

where did you get the custom blind from
Hi Carl. I used 'orderblinds.co.uk'. Was really impressed with their quick service :). Cheers
your van looks nice and I think it would look amazing when it’s all done!!!
Really great ideas here.
nice conversion mate
Nice I found your channel , lot of good info, cheers from Stockholm
Hi Mats, glad to hear it! Lots more content on the way. Cheers!
Good job! I think that dowel is not perpendicular and plum since you just hand drilled the hole. Eyeballed it. But great concept with the shape. All about function.
Yhh I think that's what it is...I need to get myself a pillar drill!
hi there how does the malaga water heater preform mate is it suffiant for a shower thanks stu
Hi Stu, Yh I'm pretty pleased with it. I don't have a shower so it's hard to give you a precise answer (will be installing an external shower in a couple of weeks but not having a proper internal one in this van). The malaga holds 13litres of hot water. My water pump spec says that it can deliver 7 litres of water per minutes so in theory if you had a burning hot shower you would run out of water in just under 2 mins. In reality the shower is going to mix the hot water from the water heater with cold water from the tank. Say you had a 50/50 mix of hot and cold in theory the hot would run out in 4 mins. I suspect the flow rate is actually lower than this so the hot water would last longer. The next van I do I will probably consider splashing out on a truma combi just because it combines the water heater and space heater into 1 unit. Although this only has a 10 litre capacity. Hope this helps. Cheers
Won't the inserted boards wear through the fabric of your cushion?
I did think this but if I ensure that all the edges and corners are super round and smooth I can't see it happening any time soon. Maybe in a couple of years if the van and pull out bed gets a tonne of use 🤔...but I reckon it'll be ok!
The front L shaped sette bed was exactly what i was planning to do, I had the rear as a bathroom, do you plan on a bathroom/shower?
Hi Malcolm. The rear is a large double bed. I wanted to have extra sleeping space at the front so the van can sleep 3/4 as plan to rent the van out to families when im not using it. I will be installing a shower at the back (outside) so I can shower off with fresh water once I've been in the sea or if I've been wild camping for a few days and am really starting to pong! Cheers
Wouldn't have a solid base bed. You will soon find it uncomfortable. Get some cheap springy slats from Ikea, it makes a difference.
Also wouldn't cut yourself off from the cab. One day you might find you might have to just drive off without going outside.
Hi! Yes the proper bed at the back has the sprung ikea slats, pretty happy with how they turned out. Will be covering that in my next video if interested. It's a bit late to do away with the bulkhead now so we shall see how I get on! Cheers
You're Sam Payne or Cham-pagne? 🥂
Hi Travis, I have various nicknames. Cham-pagne is one of the nicer ones...🥂🍾Cheers!
