Albondigas is more of a Mexican food dish, we had it all the time growing up. The meatballs have seasoning and raw rice mixed in the ground beef. Brown the meatballs a bit before adding to the stew/soup. The stew, basically a vegetable soup with a few different ingredients in it, will cook the rice inside the meatballs. It is a really great comfort food.

Very much agree! I have no idea where they came up with this soup as NM’s comfort soup. Hatch green chile is very well liked or they could have mentioned the Christmas chile choice (where both red & green chile are used-although, I prefer green chile alone). Green chile cheeseburgers are popular. Posole is more popular than what they mentioned, if you want to choose a soup/stew type dish.

Colorado always trying to claim green chile. I just posted a huge rant. No New Mexican would order green chile in CO. It tastes horrible because they grow it in Pueblo and even though their climate is dry for CO it’s not dry enough to produce Hatch quality green chile, and because they somehow think they are green chile capital of the US they only use CO green chile which makes it taste pickled.

These sorts of lists always go with cheese curds for Wisconsin, but I feel like Butterburgers gets short shrift in that deal. Butterburgers are so good that Wisconsin’s homebred franchise, Culvers, is one of the fastest growing recently nee fast food chains, with restaurants in about half the states and growing (though, yes, also has cheese curds).
Butterburgers are exactly what they sound like… they’re fried in butter. The toppings are fairly traditional… but people also use,of course, cheese curds. Focusing just on the burger, you can’t beat the buttery flavor of a Wisconsin butterburger. Butter really sets off those umami taste buds !

I lived in China for nearly 10 years and over there, they have a surprising comfort food. A dish called tomato and egg. Basically you take eggs and tomatoes, one or two eggs per tomato. Some garlic and green onions. Dice or slice the garlic and the whites of the green onions and chop the green parts into finger width pieces. Brown the garlic and onions a bit. Take the eggs and whisk them deliberately getting air in the mix (bad form usually I know). Put oil in a pan fairly deep, sesame oil is best if you have it. Get the oil hot and drop the eggs in. Cook intil *almost* done, they should still be a little runny. Then add the garlic, onions and tomatoes cut into wedges.
Add chicken stock and a little soy sauce and let it simmer, gently stirring occasionally on a medium heat. The juices from the tomatoes will come out after a while, that means its almost done. Let it simmer in those juices for a few minutes and salt to taste. Some people add sugar. I usually don't, but it can be good. Many people also blanch the tomatoes and remove the skin, but I leave them on. I feel like they add texture.
Serve that over white rice. Personally I prefer the dish *cold.* Still over hot white rice mind, but I like to put the tomato and egg in the fridge overnight then serve it over hot white rice. That is NOT traditional, but it is REALLY tasty.
Expert cooking tip. Adding a tiny bit of sugar and a vinegar to a dish, not even enough to taste can dramatically add to the taste of a dish. The reason is, that both sugar and vinegar have a chemical reaction that causes taste buds to become more sensitive for a while. A tea spoon of each is more than enough for an entire dish or soup. Again, it doesn't even have to be enough to taste.

Don't let them North Jersey bennies tell you different. It's pork roll. A pork roll, egg, & cheese sandwich on a kaiser roll is food of the gods. BUT an unofficial comfort food for South Jersey is the Jersey tomato sandwich. It's just sliced up Jersey tomatoes on white bread with mayo, salt, & pepper. You'll thank me later.

Arkansas in da house! On a cold, dreary, winter's day nothing beats a steaming bowl of chicken and dumplings! There are two dumpling options: dropped and rolled. For dropped, you drop spoonfuls of dough into the boiling broth. This is the method shown in the video clip.
For rolled, you roll the dough out with a rolling pin, then cut it into squares with a pizza cutter. That's my preferred method. I use chicken broth instead of water for a richer flavor, throw in a stick of butter for flavor and a silky mouth feel, skin, debone, and shred a Walmart rotisserie chicken, season with salt, sage, and a few good shakes of pepper, and enjoy! 😋😋😋

States where I've lived: Missouri - toasted ravioli, Indiana - Pork tenderloin sandwich, Louisiana - Po Boy sandwich, North Carolina - pulled pork, Nevada - prime rib, Tennessee - hot chicken (it wasn't created by accident, it was made to punish a husband who stayed out late drinking but he loved it), and finally Texas - chile con carne (wrong, correct answer is brisket). Out of all of these my favorite is Nashville Hot Chicken. I can't get enough. It helps that I'm surrounded by restaurants specializing in this delicacy. Least favorite is the Po Boy. Honorable mention is a tie between the prime rib and pulled pork sandwhich. You can get a pulled pork sandwich on practically every street corner in NC, but the prime rib is a delicacy. There was a casino I used to go to where the prime rib was so big it would hang over the sides of the plate.

The best Mexican food you’ll find is either in California or Arizona. Make sure you don’t do fast food but a sit down restaurant. Each area will have a favorite restaurant so ask a local where their favorite Mexican restaurant is. That probably goes for everywhere you’ll go. If you head to the Grand Canyon make sure to stop at Williams, Arizona. Best streak is at a restaurant that is known for its cow logo. Again ask a local.

It's because in Colorado we have Pork Green Chili and it's in practically every restaurant has it's completely different than what New Mexico has which is chili Verde so they misrepresented it. The big difference is Colorado pork green chili is 10 times better than what New Mexico has.

Right! I've never seen that either. Not even at the traditional Mexican places in Abq that serve tongue. I think CO paid them to steal NM's green chili stew because they're not known for their food. Especially not their weak green chili stew, might as well use bell peppers.

NM or Colorado? lol One thing is for sure, Colorado Chile peppers can't hold a candle to Hatch grown green chile. It's world renowned for a reason!

@@anneo3754 Yes I have. The cheese is somehow INFUSED in the middle of the burger!!! I think it is injected during the stages of medium rare and medium then fried until either done or well done.
The place I tried it USED to have it on their menu but you could possibly special order it from OFF the menu.

While I do love me some sweet corn... I'm not gonna lie that's one of my favorite things... however as a comfort food... it's easy... Macaroni and cream of mushroom soup... with a bit of butter. Just plain ole macaroni noodles with a can of Campbell's (this is a must no scrimping on cheap stuff!)... cream of mushroom soup on it... and some butter a little bit of milk... and fresh ground pepper. Was something my Mom used to make us when I was a kid.

22:40. Atlanta hit the nail on the head, LITERALLY She did. A lot of our American recipes were created by accident , and we Americans instead of dumping them into the bin, tried to improve. We are still a young nation less than 300 years old, Yet our spirit of pioneering and making as Bob Ross would say " Happy little accidents" into Great Results is what separates Ourselves. We are a Nation whom is not afraid to make accidents into wonderful creations. We are the Nation that the Schools would kick out whilst learning, and come back in less than 300 years as a Mere Republic with Imperial Strength, Earth wise, and Space Interstellar Technology. We may be the one nation on Earth that has never believed in a half cup/glass empty. If we Fail, then at Least we Tried. If we Succeed, then better for Ourselves. Half Cup Full Mentality is what has made us soo successful in such a SHORT time.

My who family would ask her to slightly burn okra when frying it, and now I even like it steamed. My comfort food is fried potatoes then on the plate put cheese on it and then a eggs over easy on top of that. I first tried it at restaurant after church called Po Folks.
