Something I can't help but think when these analyses get made every year at draft time is just how many 2nd and 3rd or even later round picks are playing huge roles on their respective teams, while a lot of 1st rd guys who got picked ahead of them are either buried on a 4th line or in the minors somewhere. So much of this is just completely unpredictable.

When there were whispers of the Habs possibly trading up, it made sense to me that it was their 26th overall pick that they would move up. Why give up the heavy price required to move within the top 5 when it could potentially be better value to turn that 26th pick into a 10-15th pick to grab a kid high on their list that's still available.

I think at this point into the rebuild Montreal can't take big swings like Eiserman or Demidov. It risks us just being in the middle for a long long time. I think Montreal should consider going after Berkley Catton. He's a proven offensive star forward with plenty of upside and not much risk. I see some McTavish vibes with him honestly and wouldn't mind if they took him. I think there's 2 routes for him. He becomes that bread and butter 90 point center like a Stuz or he becomes a 70-85 point player like Suzuki. I think he just is the best fit as we need talented top 6 forwards while also not providing much risk.

The guy is said by some to be better than Michkov, broke Kuchervs record playing on the same Russian league! And next best thing to come from there since Ovi! Suddenly people are second guessing as the draft draws near? Cmon we have no “ ELITE” talent! If we pass on this guy and take a dman, omg I’ll be pissed! Watch the highlife videos with Demidov! Last year, it was Caufield's turn to get flak in spite of him having a better year than last year, "fans" still calling him unidimensional when it's blatantly not the case anymore.

I'm of the belief that you can never have too much talented big guys in the lineup so for me the rankings I've got in my head at the moment are Demidov > Lindstrom > Sennecke = Iginla. We come away with any of those guys and I'm happy as a clam. Demidov isn't big but the talent seems to be off the charts so worth going on the smaller side but he's the only guy under 6 feet tall I'd take with the 5th pick. I'd much rather be a team of mostly big guys with a few very talented small guys over a team of very talented small guys with a few big guys sprinkled in.

There's a few combine interviews on FloHockey's youtube chan and I've haven't watched all of them, but i must say i was quite positively surprised with Sennecke's answers. Kid is poised and confident but not arrogant at all, has some subtle sense of humor, gave interesting answers to some fairly boring questions, seem to think team before himself and has great lucidity to what he is now, what he's gone through and what remains to be done to get to further levels and ultimately reach what he wants to be as an NHLer. I was already quite fond of that kid and what he brought to his team this season, i'm now even more interested as to what caliber of a player he can become.

If Habs draft Catton they will need two big wingers with goal scoring potential to protect him. I am all for having one smaller sized player on a line however come playoffs it does seem teams with bigger skilled players go further. According to Grant McCaag, the average height in the NHL is 6'1" and Habs do not have many forwards that height. Why would Montreal pick demidov if he and other top defensemen are available ? It would go against their theory of always drafting the best available player .
So let me get that straight? Michkov outscores and outplays Connor bedard at the U18 but Montreal goes for a defensive 2nd pairing defenseman in Reinbacher and a year later they would pick Demidov over Silayev, Davidson or Parekh? If Montreal pick demidov with any of the defensemen that I mentioned available, that would make that Reinbacher pick look retarded! Doesn’t make any sense

Montreal is known for drafting fit #1 and skill #2 priority wise. We seen it when he took Slafkovsky and Reinbacher who were obectively less skilled then their piers as prospects. So you got that wrong. Secondly. Michkov wasn't supposed to be elidgable for a contract in the NHL till 2025. Sometimes they just end up staying home in that case. Also run the risk of his game not tranlating from Russia to NHL. Demidov is just as dominate in his league. Sure his compition is much worse but that dosen't matter to me. I think Montreal wont pick any defenseman because of our pool we've already guarranteed. NOW its time for forwards. I think also Michkov mightve not wanted to play in mtl and demanded to play with philly.

Tell me what has reinbacher has done that give you the impression that he would even make the NHL, he struggle in the Swiss league and had 15 mins of fame at the U18 due to the lack of options for his team
There’s actually nothing impressive about Reinbacher and to waste a 5th overall pick on a defensive defenseman was just retarded , Reinbacher is similar to David Savard , good defensively and puts up 25pts a year, do you actually think that passing on Michkov, Leonard or others was worth David Reinbacher? Sorry but me and millions of others don’t , especially when the habs had already at least 4 guys with the potential of playing first pairing
Montreal already had 8 defensemen prospects in their system that had better years at the same age as reinbacher

Iginla has the potential to be a very good player in the playoffs and regular season and better than Catton… Iginla is bigger, More competitive, Has a better shot, Better physicality… IQ would go to catton but Iginla has great IQ as well… Iginla is the exact player Montreal needs in my opinion I would even think REAL hard about taking Iginla OVER Demidov… Lindstrom is good as well but personally I see him as a second line C and I see Iginla as a 30-40 goal first line winger… we shall see in 5 years, But Demidov or Iginla should be the Habs pick…

Sorry I just think that the reinbacher pick was a huge waste . Now they have all these defensemen prospect that won’t have a chance to reach their full value and potential before being forced in a trade , that is very counter productive , they also been struggling for talented offensive and character players for decades but they passed on michkov , Leonard and others?
So far for me , I think that the Reinbacher pick was a total waste of pick, like who drafts a stay at home defenseman 5th overall, you’re gonna tell me he’s not a stay at home d-man? He’s never been slightly productive throughout his career , odds that it changes once he reaches the NHL are non existent

@@stephaneferron5317at least our future defence core is finished
      Hutson-Reinbacher
      Ghule-Mailloux
      Xhekaj-Barron
All the other are not part of our future or are just not that great so they are basically asset to trade
