Others have mentioned this, but this video series is one of the best things to come from the CoViD-19 mess. I'm sure we all hope that these videos continue after life gets back to whatever the "new normal" will look like. It's such a privilege to hear these songs with the bass at the front of the mix, and a great opportunity to learn from one of the true masters of the art. Lee, thanks for taking the time to share with us!
"New normal"?
@@canadianroot Only acknowledging the possibility that there may be cultural or lifestyle changes that extend beyond the end of the current outbreak. All I know for sure is that I'm deply thankful for great music, and all the great musicians that brighten our days and help us handle difficult times.
@@davidmelton7268 I was suggesting that WE are the ones who decide what normal is, not the authorities, who have taken it upon themselves to tell us what to do.....and we do it. Music, as with laughter, is the best medicine. Cheers.
the thing with the real musicians who played with the artists is now all the tutorials - guitar lessons are fake and wrong but i knew it for years:)) it's just made to have some views
only a very little number of persons have the real tabs and really play like the masters
so, that's all (Genesis )
Are any other bassists are doing this sort of thing? I'd love to hear if you have any recommendations.
Oh my God.... What a gift Leland to see you play and play the “Frankenstein”Bass... Thank you 🙏🏻 you can’t imagine what kind of present you give to us....
Gr888 thanks
What he said! Lol! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Not only one of the most wonderful musicians on planet Earth, one of its most beautiful humans too. Thank you for being you, Leland.
he is alone what a pity ! big career but alone ? ni kids, wife?
Yes....a true gem of a man. Wish this world had more Leland Sklars...man , do I . You killed it...holding up my '10' card now😁
Phenix returns no, he’s been married for many years.
Leland Sklar makes the world a better place.
“We’ll see how this goes. I haven’t played this in a long long time...”
Crushes every note.
That was another 10, Lee. Thank you for doing these. So cool to watch.
+15 👍
I know musicians don't necessarily like to be compared to others, but this has a Steely Dan vibe to it. Loved it!
Thanks for Bringing Smiles and Awesomeness to Our Lives
"Strive to be adequate!" I love that sentiment from someone who puts all the love in their heart into their music.
HOLY COW !!!! THAT BASS LINE IS BEAUTIFUL !!!!
It's your channel Lee, you do whatever you like and we appreciate the time you take to play for us, and if it happens to be songs some of us requested, all the better. If not it's still good! Thank you!
Holy cow - the GROOVE! The POCKET! Always there. Thanks, Lee! 20! Hoping Maureen continues to heal and improve daily, as well.
Definitely a 10/10 Leland! Keep 'em coming, and more importantly, keep well.
Love the vids. When my kids see me watching them, two of ‘em think you’re Father Christmas, and the other one thinks you’re Gandalf...
Howard Whitehead same haha
With a great beard comes great responsibility.
It is like being home at very good friend! Stay healthy and take very good care of yourself.
Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland!
What a legend! Leland Sklar, Steve Lukather, Rick Beato, The Professor of Rock, The Charismatic Voice, are but a few of the people and CZcams channels I have discovered during the pandemic and after that have educated, enlightened and enriched my soul during this dark time we all went through. It is now January of 2024 and I am just seeing this, but enjoying every moment. What a treasure! Thank you for sharing!
Lee, as a bassist, I started playing in 1965 as a 13 year old and I still play today. Over the years, I was very aware of you presence in the music world but I didn't follow you. With this present Covid-19 issue and just recently retired from my day job, I was perusing the CZcams videos and I came across your videos here. I can't say any more positive words that haven't been expressed by others but I really appreciate both your playing and what you're doing here on CZcams. As I listen to you here, musically you are saying what needs to be said. Solid, soulful playing no flash or tricks just pure musicianship, I can see why you're a "first call" player. I tip my hat to you sir. Now off to watch you other videos, stay healthy sir.
bless you Leland... for your talent and for being such a compassionate human being..cheers
Thank you Leland! I’m enjoying every play along you’ve been posting and your memories and anecdotes of the times we’re living through now. Much respect to you. A kind a gentle soul you are. There’s so much more to you than simply the bass legend you’ve become.
You know people learn to play a Bass or guitar to be a part of music.
What I have seen the level they want to get to is not so much a place in music but a place someone they find to be great to them is.
That is why I say certain people that are the best of the best are "music"... and I have hearing you play damn near all my life....and you my friend are truly music at its finest form. And you have been that starting a long time ago.
I know you don't want to hear this again but you truly are a bonified LEGEND to many of us.
I think I’ve decided.
I’ve been searching for a song to learn as I learn the instrument.
When I master this lil’ diddy, I’ll have learned all I need to be able to boogie straight to my happy place.
Thank you!
Inspirational, not just the playing, but In every aspect of your career and outlook on life.
Hope you have a great day
Lee, as a musician myself and a huge fan of all your work over the years, Thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for all your exquisite vibe and soul! BTW, the set up you’re using may not sound great from your side, but it works really well to emphasize the bass so we can appreciate what you’re playing. Bless you for all your kind generosity and inspiration, brother!
W
Exactly. Even if it's far from Hi-Fi.
I never get tired of this demonstration!!! WOW!
I want to enjoy life as much as this guy does.
Keep doin' what you're doin' Leland. Positive vibes all the way.
Awesome stumbling on you in lockdown Leland! Live in Berlin 1990 is my all time favourite concert. My father tells a story about taking my autistic brother to that same concert in Vancouver, Canada. They were on the floor so my dad had to hold my brother up the entire concert so he could see the stage. My brother was non verbal at the time. When the concert was finished my brother turns to my dad and says, "thank you dad".
A wonderful story.
Not only an art, music is medicine, therapy, and so on...
Your dad is a wise man. Music is an universal language without any borders.
As far as your setup Mr. Sklar, have no worries... i have a feeling 90% of us will listen and enjoy either way. this is a joy for me just to listen and absorb your stories and musical abilities, Take care.
Great job on this one Le. I agree Luke is a beast, had the pleasure of being the kit for him a couple times. Love, love the channel. Trolls are holes... ignore ‘em. Careful in that tree, we need more Sklar!
Leland, these videos you are doing really calm me down when I listen to you speak and play...your the front line bass player in my book...Thank you !!
Awesome groove!!
One word for this series.....FANTASTIC!
Lee, I could never tire of watching you play this! Such an upbeat groove. Made my day.
What an amazing sound from that bass! Clearly a *10*, no doubt about it! “Please sir, I want some more...” Thank you, so much! Stay home...stay safe...save lives!
That´s awesome. A bass I´ve just have seen in rare pics in the internet. It´s a pleasure. Thank you, mr. Stay safe.
Thanks, Leland. I'm really enjoying your videos and playing. You still sound great!
Thanks for takin the time to do these videos. All us music lovers appreciate it so much.David from merseyside UK.
Thanks, Lee. Es it’s all about the music and I must tell you that my bass playing has improved much the past 2 weeks watching you and learning songs that I love. Stay well!
I have to tell you how much these videos mean to me , really make my day. All the best from Bonnie Scotland to all in the U.S.A
I never checked out any of Lukather's solo work. This is great! Thanks for turning me on to something I probably should have known about already. How I haven't stumbled onto your channel until today is beyond me, but thanks for making these videos.
Your vids are a treasure. Thank you. Fair winds and following seas to all.
I hadn't heard any of Steve Lukather's solo work before but I'll definitely have a look now. Thanks for turning me on to something new!
you should listen to Ever Changing Times and Transition.
His solo stuff is out of this world.
@@b0njov1 Totally Agree!.
1989's Lukather = painfully 80s but some good songs
1997's Luke = pleasantly 90s
2003's Santamental = the most tolerable Christmas album for me now
2008's Ever Changing Times = great work
2010's All's Well that Ends Well = great work
2013's Transition = great work
1994's Candyman = haven't really listened to it
Fall into Velvet, Brody's, I Am, Twist the Knife... Luke's solo stuff is awesome!
Awesome, awesome musician and a big-hearted man. LOVE these videos! Blessings to all in the US (and everywhere) who are suffering so much from the UK.
You're a class act Lee...been a fan for a long time. Your playing is second to no one. Love you man
Usted es el mejor. Gracias por compartir.
Love hearing your different basses, have really been enjoying your content, thanks for taking the time!
I already miss the Resist sticker, but we can still resist without stickers. Thanks for all you share, means allot to me, have a good day Brother
resisting doesn't need a sticker, everyday the world reminds you to resist
Your playing is fantastic, your stories are thoughtful, and your politics are humane and sound. Cheers and thank you for sharing all three of those things in these videos. Best wishes to you.
Happened upon this again today and it just made my mood for the weekend! Thank you for sharing your exquisite talent and inner light!❤
Just love these Leland, so interesting. Thank you sir😊
Thank you Leland! You give so much to us all through these daily "meetings", it s something to look forward to, and your stories and your bass playing really is history to all of us :) Best regards from Norway
What you call adequate most of us would call perfection. Love your videos and your humanity. Keep well and keep safe.
Love from Ireland... I watch everyday!
One of my favorite tunes that you've posted! A definite "10"...
Yes! I was hoping you would play this one. Just listened to this track yesterday. Great record!
You, sir, are MORE than adequate. I thank you for doing this channel. It is a welcome respite from the world.
Thank you very much Mr. Sklar. you are one of the best bass players on this planet. Thank you for your channel and video. I enjoy them very much.
one of the greatest musicians of all time and still "striving to be adequate" - thank you, brother
Leland, I Love your daily Videos and I'm looking forward to it every day! It just puts a smile on my face everytime...keep it Up - the great music an the wonderful Stories! Take Care
Thanks for all these videos, Leland! It is a pure joy to watch you play. I love listening to your stories & anecdotes. You add happiness to our stay-at-home situation. Please take care. Stay healthy and safe!
What a pleasure seeing Lee playing. Music is another language where your hands are doing the talking rather than your mouth. It takes many hours of playing and improvising to get to a point that you can think of what you want to play/say and your hands do the talking! Lee is the best.
Wow, I'd never heard that song before! Cool arrangement and tastefully groovy bass. Awesome tone from the Frankenstein, too.
‘Strive to be adequate’... Mission accomplished, sir! Whatever your setup is for these recordings, it’s working well! Thank you. 👍🏻
I could never thank you enough for setting up this channel Leland....
Thanks Leland, outstanding!!!!!
If my own bass player (playing with me 20 years) ever says he's had enough, you've got the spot!
You've been one of my favorite bassists for at least 40 years!
I give this performance a “9”. I’ve been working 12+hour shifts since Monday this week and your words of support really made my day. The threat of this illness is real but, due diligence with a strong daily regimen will likely keep me safe, it’s a lot of work on top of what I already do at my company but, I think I’ll make it through...........we all have to do this. ( ^_^. )
Great ! 10+ We recognize Lee Sklar sound from far away....Thanks a lot
Another great video with you Lee. So sorry you have to endure knuckleheads as well as bassheads here. These moments of yours makes our day every day. Thank you.
Hi Lee, I’d like to see you knock out the Alf theme song on one of these videos. A few years back I was watching a season of it and after a few episodes it sunk in just how killer the bass playing was, so I looked it up and discovered you, then I got to see what else you’ve done. I can’t believe it took me so long to become aware of your playing, much like Carrol Kaye who I was only mildly aware of before the wrecking crew documentary came out. I’m glad to see the studio legends finally getting some of the notice you’ve always deserved.
Love the Frankenstein up close and personal. Sounds way different out front than buried in the mix. Thanks for this.
Agree.
It is such a treat to hear your parts soloed and to actually see you play them. You are giving a master class in actually playing bass and showing why you have had such a great career.
I'd like to thank you very much for letting us into your life like this. Watching your video's sure make this lock down a little easier. Thanx again from Ontario , Canada
Feels like I'm sitting in front of you, having a talk with an old friend. Steve is one of my favourite guitar players. Please, take care!!! See you tomorrow!
That fretboard looks amazing
Dean Floyd looks ebony right? Am I seeing things?
It’s been play soooo much that it has buffed to a shine. Looks lovely
Leland have been a big fan of yours for a number of years. Thanks for these wonderful music and story telling videos
LOVE your stuff and stories. LONG time Luke/Toto/Studio drummer since '77 and have loved ALL of these!! Thanks, Leland!
Good morning again . It's great to see you as I sit here in my "home office" "working" from home. The balance of your bass level and the backing track was really good in this one.
I thought it sounded great too!
Been enjoying your videos and as much as I like to see you play, may I suggest treating us to a brief tour of Sklar Gardens..
So many lessons we can take from these videos... The way you speak about other musicians is a lesson itself!! Thank you Sir for being.
Hi Lee and thanks so much for these videos! I am an old drummer but now trying to learn to play bass. Videos like this are perfect for practicing, especially when it's a master showing the way. Take care and God bless you! 🙏🤩
That was so much fun. I'm not a musician, just a listener, but I did notice your right thumb landed in four different places on Frankenstein. Usually, it's locked down on one spot (Jameson style?). I'm in envy of your 90 degree temps, I'm in Two Rivers, Wisconsin and I saw sleet today. Been a follower on your FB page for years through the blank times and the times you could speak. When you speak we are on the same page.
Wow, I can easily believe that you have used this beast bass major of your recordings. Very nice sound and very groovy playing. Some how this tune reminds me some of Steely Dan's Aja -era recordings. In a good way.
All for the music!
Thanks for your Art, Mr. Sklar. And thank you for sharing this videos. The best thing we, engineers, producers and musicians around all the globe can enjoy. This is the real art: share the knowledge without compromise. And let the newest generations to learn from the greatest. As David Melton said in a previous comment, this is the best gift you can give us specially at this moment. My best wishes for you. You don't deserve less than that. And my biggest hug.
Lee, your "adequate" is just fine with me!
Very Steely Dan to me. Love everything you have played on. Don't let em take your mind man! Peace and Maximum Respect ~ The Loo
The SD influence is very prominent. And, TBH, I kinda wish there was some beef between Lukather and SD, because this would kind of seem the "right kind of revenge". There was something about Jeff's drums or something involving him, but I'd like to dig deeper to whatever BAD stuff happened between Luke and Fagen+Becker :P Now where was that Luke autobiography....
Killer playing all the way, I dig this piece a lot. and lots of love to Leland!
Yes, the into always reminds me so much of "tonight when I chase the dragon".
@@iandusud tonight?
What a great looking and sounding bass!
Absolutely wonderful! Thanks for sharing with us!
Dear Mr. Sklar I see you still have the same problem, making it look so damn easy. My best
Hey you know I think you're starting to get the hang of the whole "Bass Thang"
Thank you very much! I will easily give you a 10! I enjoyed that very much! I am here for the music. No two people agree on everything. Again, thank you!
Thanks so much,Lee. It is always a pleasure to see you in action and to talk to you at the many bass community events. I look forward to seeing you soon. BASS ON BASS BROTHER ❗️Love these daily home videos you are doing . Cheers.
hi Leland, I’m surprised by your comment about people trolling your channel as I thought the viewers would be music lovers and fans so I’m a bit saddened by that. I enjoyed your playiing once again and as a guitar player I’m also a big fan of Steve Lukather. Keep well.
There's enough shitty people everywhere, sadly.
More fluid than Jeff Beck. Your mix made it sound like the bass was in my room! I kept looking left expecting someone to be there. Strange, because my bass is over to the right.
Even after seeing this a few times, I still just love the creative fretboard movement and the way you come back to the main groove and make this tune fly ❤🙌🏽🎵Hard to believe this was three years back 😵💫 Best wishes bass brother . And, hello Maureen 🙌🏽
Mahalo for keeping us sane, Aloha from Hawai’i
Keep safe. Ladders!!! 😱
Now thats how a bass guitar should sound like !
Lee, I love listening to you playing. You are a bright spot in a dark time. Keep it up!
What a pleasure to listen to you and see you playing this magnificent song from Steve :) :) :) Thank you so much !!! :) :) :) Always fan !! :)
