My girlfriend bought me Izulla II as a Christmas gift this year and I’m super stoked to have it on my side for the future. Super comfortable and even happier to find out about the warranty on it from this video! That means no matter what happens to it i can always have the idea of her buying it for me regardless if it gets broken or the tip chips or anything. That means a lot to me. Thanks for the video!

    • @boonedockery7220

I have had a couple folks comment that the warrantee is not as effortless as ESEE says it is. However, of all the people I know personally that own ESEE knifes (and use the hard!) none of them have ever had a single problem that would necessitate using the warrantee. I have no personal reason to believe ESEE would not stand by their products with their warrantee.

I apologize in advance for the length of my reply. You have no idea how much I love my Esee knives! My words in the videos are inadequate to express my feelings of them. I own the Izula II, Esee 5, Esee 4, and two Esee 6hms. Of course you know now that my Izula II goes with me every time I hit the woods. My Esee 4 is my my kayaking kit knife. It is perfect for anything I would need a knife for while kayaking. My Esee 5 is my work horse heavy chopper when I don't take a saw or axe. The Esee 6 Hms, that's a long story.
I did a 18th century long hunter presentation at Dave Canterbury's third Pathfinder Gathering. In my kit I had a reproduction 18th century French trade knife that Dave was particularly interested in. A year or so later, Dave sold a limited production knife that was a modern, longer version of that knife. At the price, I could not save enough money in time to buy one. Later on Esee introduced the same knife. I was in the financial position to buy it the day I saw it. I LOVED that knife, however I did not like the sheath. It did not retain the knife well. Eventually Esee introduced the Esee 6hm with a Kydex sheath. I wrote Esee to purchase a Kydex sheath for the Esee 6hm I owned. I was informed that the early production knives were individually manufactured and were not standardized and the sheath would probably not fit properly.
I loved the knife but rarely ever used it due to the sheath, I investigated purchasing a custom Kydex sheath for it but the sheaths were nearly as expensive as the knife, so, I bought another Esee 6hm with a Kydex sheath. True to the word when I received the knife I tried the fit of the origional knife with the new Kydex sheath and it did not fit.
Recently I wet formed the original leather sheath and it fit as well as the Kydex sheath. Now I have two of my favorite knives That I Can And Will Use Extensively!!! There are two more I will be purchasing soon. The Esee 4hm and the Junglas. I own far more Esee knives than any other brand and have used them more than any of the knives I own. For me, they do exactly what I want a knife to do better than any other knives I own and are more durable and rust resistant than any I own. I was very excited by your comment and had to tell you my Esee Story! God Bless You and Your Business. Sincerely, John Timms!

On updating my wardrobe to mostly cargo pants over jeans I've taken to carrying my Izula II in a Sharp Shooter Sheath Systems leather pocket sheath as a pocket EDC. Mine is in dark earth with matching micarta scales. At various times I used to carry it clipped on the belt at work before I retired. Heck of a nice little knife in a just-right size for a general-purpose cutting tool. I find a lot of people seem to think they need a big knife for every task. If you look at generations past of farmers, ranchers, and outdoorsmen, if they used a fixed blade it was often something like the Case Finn or other small fixed blades. Most just used a slip joint pocket knife for nearly everything.

I like all of the Esee knives I own and will purchase more, however, I'm straight forward and honest about the things I don't like about them and I will never purchase most of their line for many reasons. That being said that decision is based on designs and my needs, not their lack or deficiencies in any regard! Not to mention their warrantee is one of the best in the industry! I Love My Esee Knives, but a "Fan Boy"? Nah! I want the dark earth Junglas and the Esee 4 HM! I can't wait to be in the position to get them! As far as your Pink Izula goes.... I'm buying one of these specifically to include with a compact survival kit based on a Trangia 210 non stick mess tin, stored in a cordura pouch made for the Trangia 210.
I'll remove the scales and wrap Atwood ARM Battlecord or Parapocalypse paracord.
Sheath wrap is Fire Cord Paracord and a necklace of braided Lawson Equipment Ironwire paracord.
Much consideration has been put into content choice, with quality being the main consideration, (eg, dyneema and kevlar sewing threads).
I originally intended to get an Izula, but the hugely positive feedback from owners of the Izula 2 convinced me otherwise.
My take on survival/emergency kits is that whilst you have that luxury of time, choice and of everything you need "being readily accessible, you should really select the best of the type of components you'll include, because if you're ever opening your kit, you're in real trouble, so the inclusion of a Silky F180 instead of a wire saw is immediately appreciated!
During an emergency isnt the time to give serious thought to what should be in your kit, as its lalready too late.
A very compact kit can contain a remarkable amount of good contents with proper wrapping and packing techniques, so every space contains stuff that's useful and welcome.

After I purchased my Esee 6HM and discovered they had several knives in the HM line, I became VERY interested in purchasing a few of them. I really love that style/design. The Izula II is quite similar to the HM style/design. I'm curious as to why they didn't start with it? Thanks again Kyle! Much love to you and yours!

Love my Izula II, also used as a neck knife. You mentioned it and I see it mentioned in the comments being used for field dressing, but the ESEE Ashely Game knife is far superior for that task. Great little companion. Yes, the rust on the engravings is a major annoyance, it's really deep. I also filed down the back for a fire steel, and of course that rusts very quickly, but luckily it's easier to get rid of there. Another "negative" if you use it for food prep, it is so thick that it's difficult to slice with precision without some practice, but that's only an issue if you want your veggies to be thinly sliced. And I can confirm that you can baton the hell out of it, the thickness and geometry of the blade are perfect for that, it's only limited by its blade length, but with the help of a wedge (carved with the Izula of course...) you can split bigger logs. Also, I recommend to release the knife by pushing your thumb on the corner of the sheath before sliding it out, actually pushing the sheath away from the knife first, for a more controlled release, and thus avoid your hand and knife jerking back. This way is also one-handed with no sudden movements, so there's no need to hold the sheath to avoid getting slapped in the face by it, nor ripping open an eventual clasp.

    • @boonedockery7220
      @boonedockery7220  Před 2 lety +2

Thank you for this excellent and informative comment! I have seen several instances where people have filed the back of the blade to make a fire steel. I am going to try that on one of my knives. I have used my Izula II on occasion to prep food but rarely. I have used it to cut steak on numerous occasions though. I have an Opinel pocket knife that I use most frequently to process ingredients when I cook in the woods. Thank you for the tip on removing the blade from the sheath. Believe it or not that is usually the way I do it. For the life of me I can't believe I didn't remove it that way on the video? I certainly hope to read many more of your comments in the future! I use Ballistol for rust prevention and it’s mineral oil based and it’s food safe for the most part (I wouldn’t recommend drinking the stuff but a toddler did and he was fine). I also use Burt’s Bees lip balm for the edge and/or etching areas for rust prevention. Sure you can use anything from wd-40 to bacon grease but wd-40 isn’t food safe.

Great video, I wish you did a tutorial on how you made the paracord necklace for your Izula II. I have the original one with the TKC extended scales and I’d like to make one for myself. I’m proficient with making the bracelets but the way you made the split up into two necklace part is unfamiliar to me.

The laser etching can be cleaned with an acid and a brush… ferric acid will etch it a little deeper and remove the rust, then you can oil it or do a clear coat to prevent further rust

On the left side the grind was different than that on the right side no problem I can fix that. I quickly realised that all but the last half inch of the blade was razor sharp(the tip) wasn’t getting any better and thought bugger this why am I fixing a problem that wasn’t mine and they have a world famous warranty. I’ll contact the company. I politely explained the problem and some bloke by the name of Perrin politely told me that it was as my skill was probably not right and it would be too expensive to return to America
