- If you’re heading into isolation or are just wanting to be able to practice your golf swing / game at home- check out how my son and I built our very own 2.5x2.5m hitting net for our golf game.

This is fantastic, going to build it for my son and myself, cant wait to get started, thanks for sharing, legend 👍
love this! been looking to make my own net but was unsure what I could use for it. this is awesome
Brilliant video guys, I am off this weekend to bunnings to grab everything haha
Hi. Thanks for a nice how to.
I am very impressed with your son's way of anticipating which step comes next and and always being ready to assist you. He's very plugged in...a trait that can't be easily taught! Well done, son!
Thanks Kev, he’s a good lad. Get his smarts from his mum thankfully 😅
How good! First search - perfect solution for my garage and the car, boards, bikes …will fit!!!If I was going to add a double layer of shade cloth/net do you think I might need to up the pipe sizes to ????
Nice job mate
Dude, you are a freakn legend man!!! Thanks for this.
Great idea, hope it’s safe for my 3 wood. Off now to get the parts 👍👍
Phil Senescall love it mate- send me a pic when it’s done 🙌🏼
Epic!!!
So cool 🤙🏾😎
Hello, Very impressive!! Thank you so much for sharing your skill. I also like the idea of pouring concrete into the bottom pipes. A job for my husband to do in the next couple of weeks. :)
Thanks Pauline, it was great for my son. We eventually upgraded 👍🏼
I know this i am probably annoying at this point but this is my last question: When you added the shade mesh how did you add it. because in the video you showed a new pipe but it was unclear how you added it.
Like the bottom part, rollback!
Do you have the website for the netting?
Great idea 👍🏌️♂️do you think scaffolding debris sheeting would be ok I’m struggling for shade cloth
Mike Watkin I’d double it up for safety but yes, I’d imagine it could work well. Best to monitor the impact area of the sheeting to ensure it isn’t wearing too quickly
Great vid how did you connect the last piece that went across the middle?
The net? With cable ties attached to the outer netting- the shade cloth is wrapped around pvc piping and connected to two T brackets either side of the nett!
is it safe ? the ball not bouncing back if it hits the pipe ?
Great video, What material are you using to hit off of?
Joey Cap1 an artificial turf off cut I received - I have since picked up a proper hitting mat 👍🏼
what did you use to weight it down (sand in pipes etc) or did you use brackets/clamps to conenct it to the ground, or are there no issues with it moving when you hit in to it
I added sand into the frame of pipes and worked a treat
Pipe crack the first time some one smokes a ball into it?
Just wondering how it held up out in the sun after time? Being PVC. Awesome vid!
Thanks mate- I actually disassembled it after a month as I built and indoor simulator. I would suggest if you poured concrete through the pipes it would hold up quite well. But if left in the sun I imagine you would need to replace sections as they would weaken in the sunlight 👍🏼
PVC is pretty solid in the sun by itself (50+ yrs degradation). UV really only affects it's impact resistance. You can paint the PVC with an exterior grade paint and that will shield the piping from UV rays.
Hey mate! So it's been a couple of years, how has it held up? Any problems with wind? Thank you
We took it down after 3 months. It was still in great working order. I added sand to the pipes to stop wind being a big factor. I was put in touch with a company that make golf nets and when they saw the video they looked after me with a brand new portable hitting net. So these pipes were repurposed as training aids for my junior golfers
Any chance of a list of what you used
20x 1m PVC Pipe 25mm
15x 90* Brackets 25mm
15x T Bend Brackets 25mm
4x4m Shade Cloth
4x Star Pickets
1x 7x5m Piece of netting
@@dannybirdgolf roughly how much did that cost besides the netting? Cherrs bro
vaughn trego just the frame work and attachments? Cost about $100 AUD - the green artificial squares cost $9.90 AUD each
Surely the pipe will shatter if it takes a direct hit with the driver?
George Sugden shouldn’t hit it with a driver if you’re positioned correctly in the centre of the net 👍🏼
How did you make the loop to slide the fabric on the rod
tom rider hi Tom, I rolled the fabric back over on itself and then cable tied the edges to create the loop- it’s very easy to do 👍🏼
So like zip ties? One last question, the top corner adapters I think you used 6 of them to make the cage. There a double 90 degree, where did you find those. Having trouble finding them in department stores. Thanks again
What is the correct name for both types of netting that was used? thanks again.
Alex Morgan hi Alex,
The nett around the “cage” is called Heavy Duty Golf Netting- it’s available online for around $100 or you maybe able to purchase some from your local golf course at a cheaper rate and cut it too size. The hitting screen is called a Sun Shade Cloth/Sail again I advise to purchase a Heavy Duty one- they say on the package Heavy or Light duty 👍🏼
@@dannybirdgolf Thanks for this. I have ordered eveything and just discovered i have a net in my garage from years ago which is a heavy duty golf net. I also have enough to do the cage. Thanks for the reply.
2 quick questions. What length pipe was used 1 meter or 1200? And what’s the overall dimensions of the cage. Thanks
Mitch Stevens Hi Mitch,
I ended up using 1m Length PVC pipes at 25mm thickness. The cage measures 2.3m High, by 2.3m wide and 1.2m deep. You can build to be 3.2m high and wide if you purchase 3m lengths of pipe too 👍🏼
Danny bird golf thanks heaps mate
Where do you buy netting
Most local hardware stores- though I would add the following info:
1- fill the base pipes with sand so they weigh down better,
2- build as wide as you can - hit pipes will break- cheap to replace but a bit of a pain.
3- have netting, but if you can, hang a Tarpaulin sheet infront of it- very heavy duty and long lasting.
Can you give me a part list?
also where can i buy golf netting
Where did you say the betting was from. Bunnings?
The netting was from my local golf club, they had some left over- I bought a shade cloth from Bunnings and hit into that- the netting was just to tidy it up 👍🏼
Roughly how long did it take you guys to build it?
About an hour all up, but I would suggest using padding on the back frame work- a pool noodle would do- we had a few mishaps and shattered a couple of pipes 😂
@@dannybirdgolf thanks!
Can you please give me the schematic of the build please
Height 2.3m
Width 2.3m
Depth 1.2m
Hey there! What about ball bounces back hitting either pipe?
Specially for biginers?
Always going to be tough, if you hit a pipe you’ll break it, I made this wide enough and put enough netting infront of the pipes at the back to stop that happening. But if a beginner I’d make sure it was wide enough that a bad shot hits the Nett on the side not the pipes themselves 👍🏼
how much was it all together?
Ky Davies Hi Ky,
The total cost for materials was $160aus :
Pipes/Adapters/Shade Cloth
I didn’t pay for the Nett- I would budget for $100 to get heavy duty netting - but as long as it isn’t taking full impact of golf balls- you can use something like bird netting doubled up which costs around $15-$20 for several meters 👍🏼
@@dannybirdgolf hey mate where abouts in aus did you buy the materials?
@@rickjones7489 Bunnings had everything I needed. Only thing I’d do differently is fill the base pipes with either sand or cement to keep them weighted down 👍🏼
It would be less expensive to just buy a frame with a net.
Couldn’t get them through Covid- but you could go out and buy materials 👊🏼
I would need a much bigger one than that. I could see me missing that and breaking the neighbours window
Hahaha, you’d be surprised - people think they have huge misses but when you’re only 8 or so feet from the back net it would take a major Miss to hit anything but net or the fence 😂
