Hilarious that Ragavan kinda does what Face-Breaker does for 1 mana, without even sacrificing the treasure
I'm not sure how strong the devilish valet deck will be, but its good uninterupted draws are gonna feel super unfair.
Gold hound is instantly going in my boros lizardblades deck, I love it
I've been testing a boros deck that runs 4 goldhound. Works really well with artifact matters strategies, mana fixes, great with eater of virtue too. I think goldhound is really solid.
I'm excited about trying Goldhound in affinity. Treasures basically count for 2 when it comes to casting Thought Monitor so I could see it being very good there. Also brickwalls Ragavan and menace attacks through Murktide if they're low on life.
The main problem is needing to have untapped red on turn 1 so it would be difficult to play along Citadel / Saga but I'm still going to try it in pure Izzet affinity.
Devilish Valet + Antagonise (or better lower cost buffs) and then two creatures is just, well, death.
I think what will determine how good Arcane Bombardment is in terms of competitive 60 card formats, is how reliably can you build a deck full of cheap instant speed spells like Opt and Consider while at the same time keeping your graveyard empty of those same cards, because you ideally only want to have 1 spell in your graveyard when you cast this, so you get a banger of a spell right away. Extra turn spells are the best, because you just take every turn for the rest of the game, but even something like Magma Opus is *probably* going to win you the game once you start casting it on every one of your and your opponents turns.
big thumbs up for "pug pug" lol
you're an english major, wreck-whih-zih-shun-err
Also, treasure doggo is a house. Play it turn one and block anything your opponent does. Swing with it on turn two and do some chip because of menace. Or, play a land and have your shard by turn two. Save it for later and use it at instant speed for mana. Or pump it after swinging. Also a sac trigger for creatures. If it eats removal, great. Super solid one drop and you were praising blue for having a good one!
Sticky fingers is indeed a bomb that people are not giving enough credit to.
Fingers crossed for rdw
Urabrask 5 mana little tefari, plus big tefari on a 4/4 haste kind of
Nicely done
Sizzling Soloist is the real sleeper. Make two tokens at once and make their control creature attack and die
Pretty stoked for Urabrask tbh in some sort of RW prison strategy; run it with Drannith magistrate to lock opp out from ever drawing or playing anything again. But dies to removal right? Haha
I'm surprised that you don't see the potential for Jaxis. With the blitz cost it's basically twinflame stapled to thrill of possibility, plus counts as a creature dying for synergy purposes. Maybe not tier-1 constructed, but definitely seems fun and powerful.
I’m like 90 percent positive when gold hound was first previewed it had a translation error that said add two mana because I thought the same thing
Oh okay I’m not crazy; if it sacs for two it’s straight broken
Shoutouts to Drannith magistrate+urabrask
sticky fingers is slightly worse than jim said it is because it still has the 2 for 1 of all auras built into it if they bolt your creature in response. it only replaces itself if it has time to attach
true, but it costs 1 mana, is pretty easy to stick on a cheap creature early
Jaxis seems really good to me, but it has nothing to do with its wall of text. 1R Blitz on its own is just kinda...whoa?? You can just make it every turn, attack. Opponent blocks, you draw the card now. They don't, you draw it on end step and deal 2. Considering that even, like, Hammer of Bogardan sees super duper Mhayashi fringe play, and that is SO much better, it just strikes me as bonkers.
How are we doing this every turn?
@@JimDavisMTG We are NOT! Realizing now that only Tenacious Underdog does that. I am Twitch chat personified.
DID I HEAR....FROST BOLT? LOL
I saw 'sticky fingers ' and was like wtf... But not best in show :P?
Jim you'll like Goldhound more when you use it as another ramp option in Historic on the way to ultimating an Ob Nixilis planeswalker copy token on turn 3.
Not sure how you're getting 7 power on the board on turn 3 with this but...
The card is competing with Unlucky Witness, Ghast and Epicure in sacrifice decks. They win out at least in standard since all 3 of them aren't /terrible/ top decks, each you can do some thing with at least. And it's not like the sacrifice decks care that much about chipping in for 1. I mean it's not a terrible card and there's definitely room for it in nonblack sacrifice decks.
@@tonysmith9905oof I meant ultimating the token on 4 sorry, not 3 sorry. 4 is doable in Historic at least with treasure ramp. Play your first land and Goldhound or Strike it Rich on turn 1. Turn 2 play your second land and sacrifice your treasure to pay for a Rotting Regisaur. Turn 4 play Ob Nixilis, sacrifice the Regisaur to the Casualty trigger, and get a 7 loyalty planeswalker token. Egon and Kroxa can get you pretty close too but 6 power ain't quite 7. The only other on-curve creature for a Casulaty ultimate is Hunted Horror in Modern, and I think that ends in getting beaten to death. Other 6 power creatures you can get out on curve in Standard are Relic Golem, a lucky Oakshade Stalker or the new Shakedown Heavy. There's certainly other ways to get a big chunk of power on the board for Casualty like pump spells but this is what I've found so far! Certainly a fun card.
@@hunterpauli763
Has to be a 7 power creature for the token Ob to ult right away. Heavy and Relic don't do it. As far as I can recall there's not a creature that will do this for you on turn 3/4 unless you're ramping super hard.
So with Regisaur, unless you got 3 goldhounds out by turn 3, you're not doing it on turn 3.
Then if you do play Regisaur on t3 they have a whole turn to deal with the dino. Yeah no I'm not saying "don't play X cuz it dies to removal" I'm just saying it's still vulnerable.
You ditch a card from Regi, hopefully beat in for 7, probably gets blocked because this line of play has no room for removal unless you're factoring in BROKEN ramp. Then you dump Ob and smash them for 7, but give them 7 cards. At this point you've gone down 1 card, sacced your big monster, lost a planeswalker, gave them cards to discard to your Ob Nixilis this turn, and are just hoping that you can burn them down when you gave them a massive card advantage.
This plan is very flawed on a fundamental level. Sure it's flashy and fun, if you wanna do it go right on ahead. But if you break down exactly what you're doing you're just setting yourself up to fail.
@@tonysmith9905 yeah it's perfect stupid Rakdos! Might as well throw a Necrogoyf or two in there with all that potential power in the yard and the discard. Death's Shadow to make punching yourself feel better. Hell if you get a Fabled Passage out on 4 that's the last card you'd need to escape Kroxa that turn. A crowd pleaser not a tournament winner for sure.
Best in Show: Unlucky Witness
Sleeper: Professional Face Breaker (Honorable mention to Goldhound)
Trap: Jaxis i guess? Fable is just better...
Bombin Common: Witty Roastmaster (alliance decks basically....naya token stuff)
Also like Urabrask quite a bit as a "must answer immediately" vs control decks. If you untap with it and can protect it....it will probably run away with the game.
Kinda feel like I like your list more....
Face Breaker is not a sleeper as everyone knows it's amazing
@@dac2007 i guess I treated sleeper as kind of like a "second best/most played" after the 1 drop/best in show ...but I'm having second thoughts
@@davidwitt5585 it's more like the card that was mostly overlooked/underrated
1
Prediction before watching for Best in Show: Jaxis, the Troublemaker
Reasoning: Red was hard, because for constructed I think the mono-red cards of this set are very underwhelming. Only a few reach mediocre status, and even fewer decent status. Jaxis is notable for being similar to Fable of the Mirror Breaker, which sees decent play.
Edit: I’m actually not sure if I agree here. Is Face-Breaker decent? Sure. But I’m not sure if its THAT good.
Yeah devilish valet is kinda insane with a token deck
I can't wait for devilish valet, too. Finally a payout for the birgi ignus combo in standard.😄
It might be Naya landfall time.
Drink every time Jim says 'All in all' lol
Don’t really get why a card named “sizzling soloist” cares about having creatures enter the battlefield, flavor-wise
Ahh, New Capenna, my least favorite set by far in standard.
You keep saying "Bomb UNcommon" even though the card is a common...or are you saying "bombin common"? Either way, for some reason it annoys me that I hear "uncommon" when its a common. :)
Yeah Bombin Common 💣
Devilish valet + fable of the mirror breaker=😙🤌
