- Thank you for being so patient. Due to the many requests we received, we managed to get our hands on a Turbo HR-V, and we must thank our friendly Honda 4S Centre, Kepong, Belux Auto Sdn Bhd for kindly lending us their test unit.
Our proof of product is done on our favorite hill climb as usual.
Watch till the end, and let us have your comments.
I am happy that the first test unit we got is the V spec; it would have been my pick too!

Yeay, uncle never disappoints. The black car at 22:34 thinks he can outrun uncle, but he learn it the hard way.
Eurobeat intensifies
He ate dust
Amazed at how YS dares to throw the HRV up Genting despite the high CG. Respect.
Looks very responsive and not lost power while climbing up n cornering, thank you uncle for demo (ing) this car power.
From the first corner, you can gauge the car handling is good. Great stuff YS and team.
Man your driving is so dope uncle! You and bobby are my fav genting drivers! 🍻
Awesome drive Uncle YS! Love how you handle and enjoy the HRV Turbo! That moment of silence feels like both driver and car are transforming into one! Hahaa
Thanks for finally testing the HRV as requested very much appreciate it
@SK C the body roll on this new HRV is very minimal when cornering, I tested it
Watch the video, listen to the comments.
Salute to u uncle YS for sharing drive exp uphill there, I've also done tested w this same spec, the normal n sports mode auto n manual gear shifter, yes same to u uncle
, it's truly very powerful n comfortable as SUV car. Thanks
I Bought the turbo variant last month coz you convinced me uncle, still watching this video of you over and over again. Thanks uncle.
Great to hear!
I like how straight forward and unedited your videos are for an established brand. Probably one of the few Malaysian CarTubers I watch. Keep up those videos
Currently overseas, but looking to replace my ancient Toyota Altis. Still debating between this and the Civic. I like the looks of this, just it’s an SUV…
Hahaha. Same engine, so decide if you want a sedan or suv.
@@YSKhongDriving I just wish the HRV had the same infotainment as the Civic, the Civic screen looks really nice hahaha
Uncle memang legend ✌️👌👍
“I really really like it”- enough said 😊
Finally uncle's genting drive for HRV is here, thanks uncle!
Thanks for waiting. Hope you enjoyed the video.
the engine actually sounds good
Nice drive la uncle...habis semua potong. Scirocco ( I think) n Audi pun kena potong kikiki.
Amazing this is super fast and thank you Uncle K.
Good job, great video, keep it up!
Family saya ada booking hrv v spec. tapi kereta belom ada stok... bila dh smpai stok tinggal sign loan shj... loan dh luluss...hihi
I am really impressed how awesome you can drive!🥰
Thank you 🤗
Terbaik uncle 👍🔥
ahhahahahahahhahaha Scirocco and A4 pun kasi gasak, power la UNCLE YS!
Wow ,7 minutes of silence , this car really fun to drive guys 😃
waww.i really like your driving skills ..keep it up.
in sport mode the CVT whine still quite noticeable even with the "gear shift", but in normal mode it seems to be quite refined which is important for day to day drive. Good improvement!
But honda cvt have issues and worst than proton cvt
JU CK, can you elaborate on that? what is the issue? I am looking to buy this car.Tq.
LMAO... that's because the car is doing hill climbs and hit high RPMs. Try climbing with a 4AT gear box and see whether there's no "whining" 🤭🤭
@@100flite yeah do ppl not realise he's going 100kmph, uphill, in a turbo charged SUV? hahaha
Great one, Uncle Khong
WOWW UNCLE. U MAKE ME SCARRY.. HOW BRAVE U DRIVING LIKE THAT AT GENTING.. SALUTE TO U UNCLE.. AWSOME...
Thank you for watching, and please share and subscribe
Nice.
Btw, look forward to you trying out the latest Mitsubishi Xpander this year. :)
It's also CVT already now.
Uncle YS’ power mode got turn on by the Audi. haha. Great driving uncle. Please buy the medklinn, forget all the car perfume you have. It is a great product, been using it for years.
I don't use car perfume
Laju betul pakcik bawak
Looks good outside.
Tqsm uncle…..! Many many info abaut hrv…..! 2x watching this video 🫣
Awesome lah Uncle...
Wa uncle… so fast up the hill. Good driving skill.
Finally the video I waited for from you!
The interior looks super comfy and the acceleration uphill is smooth as well... nice driving skill Uncle YS👍
HRV V:
- No rear cross traffic alert
- No temperature meter
- No 360 camera
- Cheap quality than Subaru, Peugeot, Toyota and Mazda
- No front parking sensor
- No Auto Tailgate
- Boot space is too small
- Not comfortable
Ms Emily Yeah, honda as usual, bringing low spec no matter how nice honda is
@@emilylimsl9884 how many acc u wanna create just to bash Honda and hope to bring more sales towards ur toyota? Lmao
@@tanhuiwun2216 Lmao, here in indonesia there’s ton of accounts like that. but they defend brands such as wuling, even though their reputation isn’t that good because of reliability issues
@@emilylimsl9884 So this Honda got zero gimmicky features? Great! that makes me wanted it even more
Uncle,您驾车好晒力!看得我很紧张,看你超车会停止呼吸。
Finally got video HRV drive up genting
Thanks for waiting. Hope you liked our video
Nice drive uncle, the track remind me intial D
salute to uncle YS KHong
Powerfull uncle² +car =perfect
Hii uncle,I am looking forward to your Honda HRV hybrid drive climb to the Genting hill, thanks!
Donno when can get the car.
@@YSKhongDriving Try your best as I wanted to see the performance of the hybrid version and how much petrol it consume going uphill !
very nice review. thanks a lot
Most welcome.
I saw your vid with X50, you seems to had more fun with that thing :D
I booked the E-spec as I dont really need the extra features in the V. I enjoyed the drive in the HR-V more than the Cross , mostly due to the turbo and the extra horses it brought to the table. Interms of ride, the Cross is a bit more firm and stable. The NVH of both are comparable and I have not much issue with both. HR-V do have that very useful magic seat feature! Another excellant video uncle Khong!
Up to your preference. But performance is not necessary have to be important these days as many buyers are now focusing on features, safety features that come with blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, 360 camera, front parking sensors and power tailgate, durability, comfort, design and others. Without that, not worth to buy HRV. Corolla Cross has better comfort with bigger boot space with more features and better safety features compare to HRV. Even quality for Honda is also not really better than those competitors like Subaru, Toyota, Mazda and Peugeot
True. The drive, engine and of course the design of the car. HRV look nice and modern to me. You must buy something which you like and that's very important. Features wise, that's the least of my concern.
Mr 100flite then good luck in driving less spec honda malaysia car
Agree..I had drove the cross ...it is firmer...but vtec turbo engine is enjoyable...booked the v spec already !
@@mohdismin8325 But quality hampehh…
awesome drive Uncle YS. I would really like to hop on for one of these rides with you to genting. the scenic karak highway and genting roads are my most favorite but I never would imagine driving my Honda like you do, but have always dreamt of how one would feel sitting inside this high octane experience. It would be a sheer dream come true to join you. TIA
Get in touch. We do take fans up, from time to time.
@@YSKhongDriving wooow. That was a very fast response. Thank you uncle YS. Will surely do
After seeing granpa having fun with this car i think i want one
It's the best uncle, really dry hearted 😁😁

Hi Uncle Khong ! Saw you on the way down genting this morning, thought you were going to be posting a video of the MX5 😆
Hahaha, not so soon. Were you in the white MX5?
@@YSKhongDriving Yeah thought I saw a familiar figure and just honked
previous generation of HRV didn't impress me at all but this generation's does!
Yes, the turbo engine is the clincher. However, it brings us into Civic territory.
Good control strelly
Great looking car !
Nice to see hrv, nice to drive hrv, once you feel that regret on many defect qualities like what happened to my honda before I sold off to change to another brand, you will regret buying honda
Uncle, you still looks good and charming. Please share with us, on what time do you usually go to sleep and get up in the morning?
Uncle Nigel :"haiyaaa...why traction control not off!" LOL nevertheless good drive! Keep it up Uncle!
Sometimes it is better to keep it on.
Performance seems quite nice, cvt noise is there but it’s bearable lah.
Nice to see hrv, nice to drive hrv, once you feel that regret on many defect qualities like what happened to my honda before I sold off to change to another brand, you will regret buying honda
2022 HRV is base on Jazz/ Fit 4th gen platform
Ok ke apabila kita bawa laju? dengan ketinggian kereta dan tayar yang besar.. Melalui pemanduan nampak sedikit huru-hara di dalam kabin 😜
“First of all I like the power “ -uncle YS-
Absolutely!
I have the zrv 1.5 turbo in Australia and the chassis is same as the civics. Shame you dont get the zrv suv there because i reckon it goes like a civic around corners, looks nice and also is a great family car.
Hmmm, I saw one on China a couple of months ago. Haven't seen any in Austrslia, but will keep an eye open for it.
We have the WR-V here, a 1.5 liter SUV about the size of the Yaris Cross.
We love you so much Uncle Khong! Such a enjoyment to watch you drive, especially ur laugh at the last corner hahaha. Make me wanna call for book tis HRV right away
But honda at your own risk when Honda aftersales is still bad.
HRV V:
- No rear cross traffic alert
- No temperature meter
- No 360 camera
- Cheap quality than Subaru, Peugeot, Toyota and Mazda
- No front parking sensor
- No Auto Tailgate
- Boot space is too small

@@appleandandroid502 which brand after sales not bad? other brands too people complaint.
@@pangpang7202 All other brands got problem but not as much huge problem as honda
Wow pro!!
Great video Uncle YS, as usual.. glad you enjoyed the drive in the new HRV.. but i no longer have faith in the Honda brand.. low quality gearbox, low quality finishing.. Just venting out from my experience.. Toyota has way better quality and finishing in this price range, while Mazda comes out on top.. hopefully in the near future i would be blessed enough to be able to afford either the new altis or the mazda 3 liftback..
Watching this so I can decide if this is a worth to buy. I hope I can buy from you sir haha
I hope so too!
how did you mount the camera in the middle sir..great visdeo by the way
We used a special camera mount
good driver
this car is quite responsive and it's fun-to-drive compared to others i saw this car recently now it's quite popular even more
My question is does this have the same 1.5 turbo engine that's causing all the problems for CRV and Civic owners? If so it's a hard pass from me. Update: yep, it is.
@@bigglyguy8429 i'm not sure actually some none of them issues
@@aimanfitri0iv It's a known issue, the turbo forces fuel past the piston rings and they end up diluting the oil with petrol, leading to fast wear and tear, which just makes the situation worse. Honda will replace the engine if it fails under warranty, and they tried adjusting the ECU to make the engine run hotter, but the problem persists. I was hoping perhaps they had redesigned it but nope, Uncle says it's the same engine as the Civic. I test drove the HRV 1.8 when it came out, not enough power, so had hopes for this, HRV with power? Yes! But no, not if it's that engine. Disappointed Honda still selling this engine with so many known issues. Like Ford with their 10 speed gearbox, too expensive to change so they just keep selling it, knowing it will fail early, just hoping outside the warranty. Pretty low.
@@bigglyguy8429 it happened long time ago in 2019-2020. and honda already overcome the problem in 2020. and it just happened in america or europe if I dont mistaken
@@debarstudio3153 It's exactly the same engine and just last night was watching a vid of a guy asking if fixed... no. Just because they're keeping quiet and still selling to Malaysians doesn't mean the problem doesn't occur, just that Malaysians are kept in the dark about how their engines won't last long
Terbaik uncle !
Uncle drivin skills . Scirocco A4 pun kalah. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
He is going slow normal drive.
Tqsm uncle…. U’r in4
Waaa uncle.. slow down a bit up the hill. hahaha
when you see uncle Khong stop talking you know shits getting real
When you stop talking, then video can be sped up for dramatic effect.
Tq test
i am so happy to see this video because i am buying one v spec whahahaha
its good Uncle can put a camera on gear shift, so that every time u change a gear we can know what gear u use 😃
Manual?
Itvwould be hard to see- there are paddle shifts, amd it's just a flick of the finger, nothing much to see.
@@YSKhongDrivingunderstand that some time paddle shift is hard to see but the dashboard on some car will display the gear number when altered. either gear box or dashboard is very good enough so that we can learn when Uncle overtaking the front car or sharp cornering 😃
uncle driving skills power ah
when you want to test the performance of car...why use ron95...not 97....it better right...
Came for the car, stayed for the driving show.
Thank you for watching.
Nice drive uncle! I recently received the hrv v spec, did a short spirited pull, i must say, the cvt sound is really bugging me, its horrendous, like droning, Honda should really do something about this, other than that, the car drives fine, nothing special tho, handling wise, i like the new civic better, but ofcourse it is not comparable, love the 1.5T tho but not the cvt droning sound
Even Honda CVT also got issues and not cheap to repair than Proton Punch CVT
@@juck2263 Come with cheap quality. X50 has premium quality
1.5T got trouble on turbo oil dilution
@@juck2263 Brother... any FB group to understand more on this? CVT problem
@@akt8985 Check yourself. Trust me, I have already saw many complaints about earth dream gearbox in FB before
Nice drive uncle! Almost 160km/h on the straight woww!
between this and the Corolla Cross, which one handles better and is more fun to drive on the twisties?
We have both the videos on the channel. What do you think, after watching both?
@@YSKhongDriving I've watched that too, heard about all the good thing about TNGA chassis, but this HRV obviously has the bigger engine for spirited driving!
I guess the Toyota is more balanced for comfort and handling, while the Honda is more fun to drive as a whole due to the turbo engine?
Wow what pure skill and talent m.. Honda hrv or hyundai creta which is a better car
We have not tested the Hyundai Creta, so cannot tell you.
Great driving uncle, which is a better, more fun to drive car overall - the Peugeot 3008 or the Honda HRV turbo?
The 3008 is C segment, so is bigger, and more comfortable. The HRV is probably more fuel efficient and lighter. Both are fun to drive.
@@YSKhongDriving Thank you very much for the input, Uncle! Great driving as always, stay safe and healthy, looking forward to more driving vids! Cheers Uncle!
Compared to Cross, can comment ur opinion on this HRV-V with regards to fuel consumption, driveability, comfort and stability? Tq in advance.
The V spec has a turbo, so is good for those who want a lot of power. The people who go for the Cross would want better overall economy, and generally drive at more gentle speeds.
The Cross is based on the Corolla base, so is C segment, whilst the HRV is based on the Jazz/ City base, so the trim levels reflect that.
Both are grear vehicles appealing to different age groups and different psychographic and demographic profiles.
Do talk to us more on whatsapp and let us help you find the right car.
Hi Uncle Khong i have choice on Toyota Corrolla Altis and this new HRV V spec. Which choices will be good? Seems price range are both equal.
Hi Kartik, it depends on what you want. The Altis is a sedan, while the HRV is a SUV. Altis is C segment so is a larger vehicle, while the HRV is B segment. HRV also has a bit more power and is turbo for that price range, so will drink a bit more. Both are hreat vehicles, and you wont go wrong if you choose either one.
You can book either one through shop.yskhongdriving.com
Hi uncle, how would you rate this new HRV’s cornering as compare to the CX-30’s cornering?
The CX 30 is based on a Mazda3 amd the HRV is based on a City.
Uncle Kong.u prefer this HRV 1.5 TURBO V SPEC or X70 in terms of overall aspect.
If I want size, the X70 is bigger, and is C segment. The HRV is B segment, but probably more frugal on fuel.
Sound insulation seems poor, how would it compare to its peers?
Nvh toyota better.
This is B segnent vehicle.
Uncle did u kept traction control on when driving Civic FE up Genting last time?
No, it was off, I think. This time the road was a bit damp, so we kept it on, just in case.
Please can you do the hill climb with Koleos? Interested to see how a CVT will work with hill climb.
If we can get a car.
@@YSKhongDriving There's no reviewer who test cars on the hills except you. For those of us who live in a hilly region it is so important to know how a car feels while driving in the hills. Thanks in advance.
Instead of car purchasing i rather take a course for Pro driving from Mr.Ys khong:)
Test drove both HRV and X50..
For me X50 still wins overall comfort and specs wise..
Cabin insulation still X50 better
Dual clutch better then CVT
Well that’s my opinion
Nice video uncle YS!
Also better value, got blind spot monitor, camera parking system compare to HRV. HRV uses lanewatch camera as blind spot technology but not useful as blind spot monitor but poor resolution
@@northgirl9733 Yeah. HRV waiting period is even longer than X50, now. Honda spare parts delivery is also not even better than Proton, which is the other way around that Proton spare parts delivery used to be worst than Honda.
I noticed got big dim button for led light odometer on driver side. 😅 hmm y
Idk about that la cuz my mom owned x50, its not that much of a differences, at first yeah x50 feels comfortable, but the more u drive it in a long period of time, u will feel not that comfortable anymore, n also that dual clutch was not that fast enough to change gears, honda still lot better in transmission tuning, cuz it revs faster than other cvt/dcvt,
Well, it is up to your taste, but I agree that proton dual clutch transmission is more durable than honda cvt. Not all cvt every cars no matter which transmission is using like dual clutch transmission, CVT or DCVT, all have different tuning. Besides based on comfort, between X50 and HRV are not much differences, but X50 is also more comfortable
tekan tekan pregi?
Hi Uncle YS, how do its suspension and cornering do compared to Toyota Corolla Cross?
The Cross and HR V are built almost similar in terms of suspension.
Sound proof ok ke tu
How u compare the power delivery between this specs vs toyota corolla cross 1.8v type uncle? Tq...
Turbo gets better power
Hi uncle YS.. i wait for few month to see if got youtuber test drive hrv s to see how the car performance with city 1.5 na engine.. hope you and your team could test drive it and climb genting…
No car available.
Hope later got.. 👍
From the video can feel that subaru xv have better handling but honda better in term of power, hope that there is a car with honda engine and subaru handling.
Hahaha.
Uncle, if body roll solution? Stabilizer rack or adjustable?
There must always be body roll. Without body roll, car cannot handle.
Like your naughty smile when having neck to neck fight with the Accord.
Accord? Was there an Accord?
22:50 looks like Accord or Audi….lol
Uncle ys, not sure if you will still see this, but i also just saw ur review on the subaru xv gt, which is about the same price as this, which would you recommend getting?
Hi, the power hungry will take the HRV turbo, but the ones that want stability in the wet and good handling overall will go for the XV.
