- Breaking tradition, Proton has arranged for a teaser drive for media on the Proton X90 ahead of its launch. The official launch is expected to be very soon.
The route was up our favorite mountain, and this provided a great opportunity for the media to check out the new powertrain, which consists of the familiar 1.5 liter 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, which now has a mild hybrid system that contributes 13 PS and 45 Nm of torque, giving a total output of 190PS and 300 Nm of torque.

Ah, here is someone who appreciates what we do. Some people blame tools they use, not realising they donno how to use it.
Actually the Proton engineers, ( Malaysians, btw, and I have spoken to them) took great pains to tune the powertrain amd suspension, including the adoption of multi-link suspension for the rear to give the X90 this excellent handling.
So those who think that this is a mere re-badging exercise are very mistaken.

One have to test drive themselves to know the comfort, power and practicality of this car. Advice the same when someone came our showroom and query about 1.5cc got power meh 😅. Great drive there uncle. Hope to see another X90 drive in future, without the press and Proton guys in it 😊
Wow, the climb seems effortless. The electric motor for sure give instantly 45Nm torque out on accelerating. NVH seems good. Mr Khong driving make the car not bulky at corners. Car looks fine, spacious, power is more than sufficient, handles well. This can be a hot seller.

Yup2.. Consider it just using 1.5 and dry weight about 1610++ kg.. The acceleration quite nice..
wah it climbed strong with 3 adults onboard.
For people who never climbed genting in any standard car will say it's slow. But in reality casually go near 100 kmh while climbing with 2 passenger is more than enough power for normal drive.
We are not like uncle YS Khong to drive it as fast even if we have more power anyway.

The grab handles are really earning their keep, it seems. Seriously, they help to keep passengers in their seats in such situations. We call them OMG handles.
Older tarmac - more stones exposed because of loss of bitumen surface
Also, tires with deeper groves cause higher noise but better disperse water in the wet.

i guess it is a first Proton car using left right manual transmission and not up and down.. ahaha i need to adapt the new x90 gear. seems i may have both x50 and x90 soon. Thank you mr. another nice review video. Having several ppl in the car and taking the corners effortlessly shows how the car has sufficient power to take it to the red line. The down side of having ppl in the car means too much talking and that can take away the 100% concentration needed. But then on the wheels is Uncle who is a legend . Overall enjoyed the video ! Absolutely good power / torque figure from a 3 cylinder engine. I have the X50 1.5 T-GDI and I can say it's quite punchy and enough for daily use.

actually, more than enough for daily use. The DCT is smooth and less aggressively tuned than those in VW and my Hyundai Tuscon 1.6T

The inner panel for the 3rd row seat should be black instead of beige because kids usually sit at the back and will dirty the panel easily with bright color plastic panel.

Mr. Khong should try the car from JB to Mersing as the roads are bumpy, twisty & the surface is quite harsh... It's a good set of road to test the car... This is from my point of view... Thanks
Yes, that 's a good road, and I would love to try it. A bit far though, for me to do on a regular basis. There arr many roads that are good throughout Malaysia, but Genting is actually the safest of all.

Dear uncle, I'm a fan of your videos but i notice a couple of times that you use bhp and ps interchangeably. It is a different unit and the numbers mean different as well.

can't help but have to comment on the GPS on the Display, it's not accurate right..? there was a moment where it shows all green and during the Genting climb, the GPS kept spinning around and around ahaha but really informative video, great testing! Always looking forward to your videos on stress testing vehicle via Genting Highlands
Thanks for supporting. TBH I was not looking at the GPS as we have to concentrate on the road. Also, there are some very sharp bends and sometimes the road almost doubles back, which could explain why the GPS seems to be spinning around.
every hill road will have this problem for GPS , especially when going fast, looking from above the hill road are rounding at the same place
Impressive handling going uphill but I'm more curious about the drive downhill, why did you cut that out? A car that size with more passengers surely would be very taxing on the breaks?
We usually don't do the downhill part because the video is very long then. We did not cut that out. We just did not record it.
