- Gifu Half Marathon- 1:04:16, 14th Place.
It was great to see Gifu, and experience Japanese culture, food, and hospitality.
Not my best day, but also not my worst. Conditions and course made it pretty difficult early on, I had some unexpected difficulties and rallied to the end. I appreciate a good slice of humble pie to start a new training block, should help keep me sharp and focused on the difficult task that lies ahead.
So thankful for this experience here in Japan 🇯🇵, looking forward to taking another swing in Vancouver in 2 weeks.

My daughter stayed up late to watch with me. Her name is Stella so she was super excited when Stella was the first female finisher. And of course we rooted for you the whole way! Great race!
That means a lot, tell Stella I appreciate the support 🙏🏼
I was the former head of the Japanese Sports institute which was based in the sporting complex in Gifu.
Still here 20 years later.
Gifu is a wonderful city.
Rory, rolling down the Japanese roads like hot maple syrup down a fat stack of flapjacks 🥞
Thanks again Rory for the video! I audibly said “hell yeah” when your vid appeared on my feed
I really appreciate the frequency of your uploads - how you provide us with this longer form, fluff-free content every few weeks. I also appreciate the balance of day in the life / pro tips / workouts / travel footage / personal thoughts in the videos
Thanks again and good luck at the natl championships.
Can't wait to cheer for you in person in Paris. I have zero connection to Canada but you are a redhead and I'm Irish so that will do!
Rory! Fellow Canadian here. I have appreciated you sharing the journey and your insights into running. As someone trying to do their best to become a better running your videos have been helpful. I would love to continue to hear more about the mental mindset you have developed through racing. Cheers brother!
Glad they are helpful, will continue to try and find ways to share meaningful things.
Get this man some more followers. Best race videos on youtube🙌🙌
Japan looks beautiful. Love the long form content from you. Thanks for sharing man ✌️
Shoutout Rory and Stamina media for making straight bangers🔥
Great Video! Thanks for sharing Rory! Love the packing tips for travel to races!!
Big Rory fan!!! Chicharito!!
Abrahamito!!
Great video Rory, love getting a peek behind the curtain of elite athletes. And nice work in the race, maybe not the result you were after but it looked like great training for Paris. Cool to see you lead the pack early!
Thanks for the honest recap Rory. Not something Coach Ryan probably hasn't already said, but being slightly disappointed running a 64 minute half on a challenging day shows how far you've come, what a remarkable athlete you are, and the skills needed to persist through hard times rather than (like a lot of elite athletes) drop out to save themselves for future races. These are exactly the skills that will serve you in Paris where I anticipate the DNF rate to be very high!
Thank you for sharing your journey. Has me hyped for my own training!
Keep it up! Looking forward to cheering you on the rest of the year
Thanks for sharing your experience! Very motivating for us to keep pursuing our goals!
Loving all your new CZcams content! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to following your progress for Paris.

Love these types of videos Rory! So cool!! Loved hearing the before & after
Glad you enjoyed! More to come 👀
I love your final conclusion❤🤩! I had a similar experience at the Boston marathon, simply in the area of popular sport and far away from the elite level and with much less precision...😅

Thanks for sharing this Rory. I appreciate the openness. Any tip or tricks to handle a mid race side stitch?
Oof, my best success comes from slowing the breath and finding that deep relaxed breathing (usually requires slowing down)
Way to work. I’m trying to run a fast (for me) half marathon tomorrow morning. Great inspiration.
You got this!
@@LinkletterRory 1:57:47 this morning for my half. Not bad for me. Thanks for the encouragement!

What’s the weapon of choice? Fast-R2 or Deviate Elite 3?
All the best! 😃
Fast R-2 for me, but I train in both and it’s marginal difference for me.
Hi Rory 🙋♂️
👋
Tuff
Hills and heat - no thanks
Hey I know that guy
Did you not take a pair of Deviate Nitro 2s? I use those for both ez runs and fartleks.
Velocity is similar but without the plate. Poor planning on my part
@@LinkletterRory I tried those on and didn’t like them. DN2 on the other hand is an incredible shoe. Love your videos!
No offense, I'm curious why many Japanese runners can run so fast in the marathon. What's your idea on it?
For 1, they emphasize longer distances from an earlier age. 2 they don’t really do cross country, instead they run road races. Their collegiate system is basically half marathon training. They also collectively run more volume than others. Just to name a few reasons (:
It also helps that competitive distance running isn't considered a minor sport here in Japan. In terms of popularity (and therefore media coverage), it's right up there with baseball.
Such inspiring video Rory. Felt like running again after watching this video. 😍
Love that!
