- Gripex was once the most popular Lee Sin main in League of Legends. A true pioneer of the champion, Gripex entertained many with his flashy plays, funny commentary, and infectious personality. But over the years, Gripex's popularity lived and died by the blind monk - to the point where he had to abandon content creation altogether to focus on a more stable livelihood. Welcome to LoLAthlete, this is the Rise and Fall of Gripex.
Thank you for supporting the channel :) - Hry
Just checked his Twitter. He and his wife just had twins. Good to see that he's doing well and is happy
should name lee and sin lol
W
bruh @@beastboy44567
Gripex stacked cash for years then retired. He always said on stream he was making his nest egg and getting close to his magic number but I never thought when he hit hed peace out. People like yassuo should have taken tips from him instead of buying 30k watches and gambling lol
@@elliotanderson3760 yassuo is probably making 30k daily with his gambling sponsors
I Had him in my friends list he was really nice guy even after he became famous he still took time to awnser any questions or discuss something
He always was nice af to his viewers had him in my game one time back when I still played and we won pretty hard and told him my twitch name in League chat and that I loved his stream, he always took time to say hello when he'd spot my name in twitch chat after that I was pretty sad he never accepted my friend request but with him getting spammed enough of those I get it haha so Im pretty jealous you actually had him in there
he didnt fell off he got burned out and focused on irl
Gripex is the goat one of the most chill streams ever, I used to just have his streams run in the background all the time. Bro always gave good vibes even after all the bullying because of his tattoo ahah
hes a goat, because he grown up and got a life
I always prefered heiz, Gripex personality felt always little plain to me.
There was this awesome montage channel called "The Carry" That I used to watch 2013-2017 that hasn't uploaded in years. I was inspired to play vayne, thresh, and lee sin from the montages on that channel. It is of course the players of these champs that inspired me but I wouldn't have known a lot of these people existed without the carry. Miss old league of legends.
that was one of the channels that got me into league too, so nostalgic
Oh man, you just brought me back to a nostalgic train LOL
That channel posted a zed montage that i still go back to watch to this day. I wonder what he's up to
I also remember "nightslut3" and his own videos too... miss them these days
ifunzio is one of the highlight clips channels i constantly watch back then. My clip was even featured there at one time
That channel mannn loved the montages it made me play a lot of champions I would have never seen myself play 😭
The Carry, iFunzio, Deonade, and sometimes Hi Im Coconut, those channels had me in a chokehold when it came to league related content
would love to watch a video on the ressurrection of LL Stylish. I'm so glad to see him streaming and happy again, after years of quitting league
PRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Assassin meta always makes him happy
prrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
as someone who played the most league between 2015-2019 and not having much time to play nowadays, these videos are such a nice change of pace from the standard league content while keeping me up to date with whats happening with the creators that used to be on top back when I used to watch regularly lol
Thank you! Also, an interesting video could be the rise of Synapse or how he mangages to stay ahead of other LoL clip channels
my thoughts exactly as a 27 year old who now only plays ARAM occasionally but grew up watching all these guys: Moe (Yassuo), LL Stylish, Gripex etc
@@manurocker1 im 19 and i also stopped too 2 years ago lmao im too early but some things just happen and ARAM is the only game mode that can keep your sanity while having a life
@@sillyme2598intriduce aram ranking and game îs done.
I remember being autofilled playing as Trundle Support, I hard carried that game, he honored me on stream and gifted me a trundle skin, great guy all around, wish him the best!
Dude, great job with your videos. Thank you.
I remember talking with the guy while having smokes and beers in 2015 worlds finals in Berlin. Chill guy hope everything is going good for the man. Had a great chat with the guy in between the maps.
You should make a video on Panunu. I totally forgot about him and I think other people have too
that guy traumatized my friend with his gragas
I enjoy those videos you do a great job on them! I’d love to see such a video about Anniebot could be quite interesting since he disappeared for years and came back with no talking.
A man who was at the mercy of his passion. Damn I know the feeling.
I like how he adds ocassional subjectivity or laugh to make us think he isnt using text to speech on ai generated script
XD
I loved watching gripex montages back in the day! His skill on Lee sin is insane and still boggles my mind! 👏
Love this videos, would love to know what happened to Blakinola his patch note videos were insanely popular
im surprised i didnt watch this one until now or didnt think about the guy for so long.... man i feel like crying after knowing what happened to him. i actually imagined he would be quite well off now but it all shattered after seeing this vid. i wish he comes back
Mano que canal bom PQP que canal bom da porra velho, muito obrigado mesmo!!!!
@LoLAthlete there is mistake in video, 2:59 it says that gripex had av 2k views and 13k peak, but on screan there is 13k and 13k again
"Winter depression kicking my a**" the music poping off in the background 🤣
Watching his leesin in 2014-16 was fun
huge inspiration
great vid thx
I really do miss this dude
4:55 and watching him get jumpscared by his dono sound was funny.
Song name in the begining?
Would love to see video about boxbox
This guy made me run it down as lee sin in ranked for like 400 games straight lol.
Damn forgot about this guy, wondered if he could play in today's game
Mind doing
A video on NNO (Eg the individual players)
Gosu azzap elite 500
And hashinshin
He was a super entertaining guy
so basically some ppl critique him bcs he didn't get out of diamond? although was a great lee sin player who is very enjoyable to watch?
He gripped too many exes
nice video, is a little hard for otps keep fresh i think
I just rmb his beard vs no beard look, luls. Great guy
tldr : He simply cannot make livings with streaming, had to work normal jobs to solve the financial crisis.
no? dont make a TLDR if u didnt watch or understand the video
@@steffan5104 if you are an adult, you will know what Gripex encountered in his life with his dog passed away, and his life crisis. It's all about money. Guess not.
chodzi o lek na przeziębienie?
Idk about the videos, so much fluff for so little information to end it with his dog died? This video could basically be a short/reel
Loved learning Lee Sin from watching gripex and TheOddOrange
I kept watching him.
who is that guy in 7:15 i remeber him so well but cant remeber the name
that should be "ll stylish", zed otp
I remember watching his stream and then someone donates and u hear EKUUUUH and Gripex would practically shit himself and so did I :DD
Gripex > Heizman. I learned the flashy stuff from Heiz tbf BUT i learned how to actually win with Gripex. Dude's macro was on point. He's the reason i realized that no amount of micro goodness can match macro map control. Especially since i mained Lee Sin during S6 to S8 where tank junglers were the meta and assassins got absolutely cucked to hell.
I miss him
Do Uberdanger and Keyori!!! What happened to both of them would be cool youtube ideas
he'd do crazy with youtube shorts lol
I think gripex simply just grew up. And got too busy and tired to play...
Ohh I remember him…. If I would of not seen his name, I would of never remembered him.
Even if he was one trick, Lee is one of the most interesting champs in the game if not the most interesting.
PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT BROFRRESCO
7:50 how is that a problem?
My dog died is a metaphor for "they added yuumi to the game". This champ was the start of the downfall of this game.
fate of lowelo otp sadge
damn i forgot about gripex.content creation is a toxic game for sure. glad he is able to focus on real priorities now and hope he is in a good place!
i dont think when you are OTP you dont deserve your rank, you dont need to have perfect macro if you are really good at your champ and otherway around you dont have to be perfect on your champion if you out macro enemies , so the take that he didnt deserve his elo is stupid
not to mention there are countless OTPs that are stuck in diamond or below. Millions of points on a broken 1v9 champion like Eve/Kha and still being gold elo. you also can NOT get challenger unless your macro is good as well. it doesn't have to be incredible, but it has to be good, which is the bare minimum for that elo.
*Its not about a streamer or a particular player is not famous presently, but the fact that League of Legends is not the same as it was before the pandemic. Basically, it is dead and other people doesn't want to accept that which is sad.*
I played with him all the time, super nice guy and taught me everything I know
6:11 Zoe XD misses literally everything
its kinda like league view went down in general lol
kinda weird that his content creation can't support his family when he was like averaging 3-5k per stream during his peak.
He wont ever be forgotten due to his awful lee sin tattoo. Its legendary
i really loved the guy
11:22 for those who dont want to waste 11 minutes of your life on information you have already known
Crazy seeing lee sin every game back then. Now lee cant even hold a candle to all these new giga turbo steroid champs.
Maybe his popularity rose in 2019 through 2020 cuz of Covid?
Sad for gripex but truth is that he was not really considered a great lee player after 2019/20 aswell so that didnt help his views i imagine. He was the goat in the beginning but he couldnt improve enough with time so people stopped caring, especially after all the korean and chinese lee sins started popping of more and more
as a lee sin main and at one point one of the best mechanical lees in the world, i can tell you gripex has never been one of the best lees in the world.
Its hard to imagine, having atleast 3k viewers average a day on twitch AND having financial problems.
how does he out of all streamers make not enough money. it's literally like if you don't scream, put on a fake personality and just be toxic, you have really low chances of making it in streaming. i wish my mind would be as simple as that lol. i can't bare to watch even 5 minutes of popular streamers
He was also a mid diamond otp with not much personality either
Make the downfall of GHOST TO LANE!!!
The scary part is that I completely forgot about him, and it'd stay the same if I didn't come across your video.
He really isn't that iconic despite I watched some of his videos.
HE GOT KIDS !!!!!
Most sadge day was when he shaved his beard
IKU!
why does he look like tom72hrs
how can he still stream and come back playing lee. I doubt that he will reach his glory days when he comes back, his mechanics are outdated there are other more skilled lee sin players like kzh, edwin leo etc. I think people will lean toward truck driver instead of Gripex.
"one of if not the best lee sin player in the world"....really bruh
i hate people using faker lablanc as an example. associating Faker with any individual champion is a stretch except maybe zed.
He was undefeated on LB for so long, zed famous play, best ryze ever, many azir plays, the galio 1v9... he has many champs associating with him because hes good at everything
APHROMOO BARD
This guy is my Dont ever meet your idols moment. Played à ranked game With him and was playing mid, Roamed alot to help him because he was getting invaded alot, I didnt get any kills, lost alot of farm. Since I was starstruk and looked up to him i explained ”I wont really be able to have alot of impact this game” After that I had no pressure in lane. So i continued to Roam to help him to get carried. He then proceeded to flame me for being useless. I was so suprised he blamed me after i helped him so much. Never ever watched him after that
faker was zed actually
"how brutal the world of content creation can be"
The dude couldn't make good living from playing games, surprised?
There are many athletes but just a few % of them make good living from it, same holds for any other field of interest - lawyers, teachers, doctors, engineers, accountants...
Saying the world of content creation is brutal because not everyone makes good money from it, is just hilarious. And in contrast to other professions, content creators (especially gamers) are doing things specifically designed to make you feel euphoric.
Being in a constant loop of dopamine rushes isn't something I would necessarily describe as brutal world.
I mean you can like gripex and enjoy his stream. But to call him one of the best or the best lee sin, when he wasnt a consitent chall player is a bit delusional. Not saying getting dia or master or so isnt impressive, just there were better lee sin out there.
We got old we stop playing and watching tbh
Whats happen with the Pokimane downfall and etc you promised us about :( ?
Working on a lot of projects in the background brother :) Since Pokimane is one of the biggest streamers (and is known for a lot of stuff outside LoL) I want to do her story justice. I don’t have an exact date/timeframe but I promise it’s actively being researched/planned :)
he won most from all of these lol players
look at iwd :D that dude will make kids with league of legends
👌 'promo sm'
sounds like he never took off as a content creator because he wasn't polarizing enough. All the people who stream for a living have haters or beefing with someone or are raging flamers or some sort of fuckery. Guys like this get broxah syndrome where even though everyone likes them they don't get the attention because they aren't attention whores.
maybe he just quited game and got a life?
Bc his lee sin tatoo was horrible
Because he wasn't good at the game, Bubba Kush is flashy have the best mechanics but is Silver, no one wants to watch someone that is both bad and unfunny, he is a good guy, a chill guy, but not a good streamer for the majority of people, or you are good playing or you are funny
TLDR: he stopped playing because lol is shit xd
AAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Fakers leblanc is crazy how didnt you say his zed man?
dead game
Why do people like you stay subbed to channels dedicated to this ‘dead game’? If it was dead wouldn’t you move on
Half or more of this video is about his views *yawn*
He grew up
Im sad you showed LL stylish as OTP for sure his Zed is known all around, but his Velkoz is also amazing, not onetrick pony, twotrick pony 🥲🥲😂😂 I love stylish tho, such a funny guy with great personality, oposed to many league streamers
