From champions that don't exist in the game anymore like pre-rework Aatrox and Poppy, entire system overhauls (runes, masteries, etc), and even deleted League of Legends game modes and maps (Twisted Treeline, Crystal Scar Dominion, etc) these are Things Only OG League of Legends Veterans Will Remember.

What season did you guys start playing League? And what are your favorite things that don't exist in the game anymore? I started playing when Yasuo was released and I miss the genuine excitement of seeing new champs released that weren't immediately controversial or "200 years".
played during beta. Glad tons of stuff got fixed (sunfire eve/twitch etc) The reworks i really hate the most is poppy/gp, From very unique style to a more "normal" style of champs. Both where way more macro heavy since you HAD to play good early to become the lategame monsters they where (triforce finished and they became usefull) I was a hard poppy main ever since her release. Played her crit after tri and really had the most fun years in league.

I don't know when I started, but it was around the time Xerath got released.
I used to play mostly TT, when I played 5v5 it was usually WW jungle with Madreds Bloodrazor and otherwise Tank, making old Aatrox a natural a obvious choice when he came out.
Another thing newer players might not know: Twitch and others with stealth could only be revealed by a trinket or pink wards.
S3 when Zac was the newest champion; right before Lissandra's release
I started on November of Season 2 . I was silver back then I didnt got Victorious Jarvan before but after that season I got all of them before switching to wildrift
Twisted Treeline getting removed was when LoL started to go downhill
For me it was Dominion
It was like a curse for them
when tft released is when leauge truly died
It isn't really something related, but is funny seeing how almost every change since the delete of twisted treeline got a lot of drawbacks
and also they could had just let the assets and things in the game and putting it as a rotative gamemode instead of just straight deleting everything...
The mod seems pretty dead. I had been waiting for hours to find a game, but no one's was playing.
Playing on snowy summoners rift is one of the most nostalgic experiences I can Think of.
uhhh and halloween rift, good times, snow rift needs to come back

I first started playing during one of the winter themed summoners rift events. I want nothing more than to play on it again because for me it holds the nostalgia of first playing the game and building black cleaver first item on jinx against bots because "It has health and AD those are both good stats!"

Twisted treeline had 2 maps, the one you showed was the "newer" one. The old one had a dragon as a main objective, red/blue buff, many more bushes and overall a more "creepy" aesthetic.
If you had someone with some brains in a custom you could play OLD Twisted Treeline as a... 7v7 or 8v8 I believe it was. That was nutty.

The Blood Moon Event, the Ascension Event, The PROJECT Event, Ohmwrecker Skarner driveby ult, the old Mordekaiser Ult that can control Dragons, The old Akali that can hide under turrets vision... The old Irelia Ult that throws fidget spinners and the unkillable demon Swain ult that drains mana but also enemies' health
the zz'rot portal, the heart of gold and the philosopher stone, old mordekaiser that could possess drakes, sword of the ocult, you could go for days
also, the bilgewater game mode which is very fun and an old kog maw that can reach attack speed of 5.00 with no lethal tempo
Bro I still remember the day before old moderkaiser rework. I killed fed enemy jhin, took control of him and 2v4 entire team with jhin just one shotting everyone with 4 infinity edge 😂

@@m.s7334 well that's a good point, I mean there isn't any ability like aatrox w in others champions, selecting to heal or do more damage is a fair simple but great mechanic, and to be fair the new Aatrox can be called a copy every time but he is fair more balanced that Riven, who is supposed to be the origin of his kit
Yall liars, dude. I never seen aatrox EVER until those couple of months they mega buffed him before his rework. All of the sudden everyone loves him despite having the bottom 3 pick rate for years. Some people even forgot he was a champion
@@vang-toulee8351 the fact that you didn't see him don't mean anything, but i understand you point, with skarner it was the same nobody ever cared about him but when the rework arrived suddenly everyone loved the old "sad scorpion", but atleast for me i really liked the old Aatrox (i started around 2016-2017) he was with skarner, k6, Nasus and Rammus the first champions i had ever played
I was actually Plat ranked in twisted treeline which is an improvement over my current bronze...I miss that mode.
Yeah and you could earn ranked rewards too so it was easier to get Victorious skins
Bro twisted treelines ranked was easy af. We were gold 2 or gold 3 players, but we started grinding to see how far we can get (me, my classmate and his buddy) and we literally for 2 weeks we olny played TT ranked and was about to hit challanger, but the classmates PC died and he had to wait for a little less than a week so he could get his new PC running! And after he could play again we just got lazy and never really pushed that hard for it
Same! Me and my real life friends used to play 3v3 ranked.
In fact, we played 3v3 80% of the time. Then they changed the 3v3 map and ruined it, which is why it died. I loved the old OG 3v3 map.
We started to play LoL in early 2011, like around February and March.
@@GalaxyHero13 True, 3v3 had a very stable playerbase until they changed it. The map changes were completely awful and then it was pretty hard to find matches and it was not fun at all... too snowbally.
@@ahejleira5654 OG map was so good and fun! The middle jungle was amazing and the top jungle too. A lot of places to hide, very dark.
Me and my friends lost interest when the new map came out. It wasn't the same. And then they made us grab something in the middle, which sucked. We want to fight, not be grabbing stuff. It was something that gave us like a buff? I don't remember anymore.

I remember in the first Twisted Treeline you could stall the game quite easily by tower hugging at the entrance to your base.
Yes!!! I missed the first twisted treeline. I remember the jungle being on top gave the solo toplaner so much rolm to run at.

Also, idk it was mentioned, but in old league version you were placed in titled division like ''veigar's shadows or '' morgana's disciples''.. or something like that... if i remember correctly.
I really miss those titled divisions :(
but the best was when you KNOW they got it first bc you had a bad laptop but you would copypaste the chatlogs and insert your own message of calling the role before them.
bonus points if your friends back you up and say the same to them as well.

Feel you, I was 12 years old when I played my first game in december 2009.
old champ select was more than disgusting and its baffling to this day that it took them so long to change it, but one brightside of such system was that in order to climb you had to know all 5 roles. also, the champ select music was goated and it made you hype af.
also one thing missing from the video is random matches showed in main client from either ranked or arams that you could spectate if you wanted. a lot of stuff didnt get mentioned so i think part 2 would be neat.
Damn. I recently came back to that game after solid 7 years break. I miss those fast paced Twisted Treeline games and utter chaos of Fun Gamemodes.
I miss Star Guardian and Odyssey modes...
Maaaan, the days of playing Twisted Treeline Ranked with my guys or joining custom lobbies for a fun round of Hide and Seek. I'm getting real old here. Thanks for the nostalgic trip tho!

fr i do think reworks should be similar to the original instead of completely changing them but people act like old asol or aatrox had a big player base when nobody actually played them. aatrox was a meme for like 3 years until he randomly got broken just before his rework
he was the first 6k3 IP champ I bought. We all know how much 6k3 cost back in those days so old Aatrox will always hold a place in my heart. Hope you rest in peace my "spam E in lane" prince

He was never meta, barely became useful a month before his remake. He was never played. And the ones who miss him missed him when they entirely changed his blood well mechanic 😭😭

Back in my days, there was no "Nashor" on Twisted. Seems like i'm getting old.
3v3 was awesome, I remember only playing ranked on twisted treeline back in the day because games were shorter and people were way nicer for whatever reason.
I started playing back in 2010 around when Malzahar was released. At some point I had purchased every single rune in the game to make some amazingly troll runepages, I think you could get +81 attack damage/ lvl 18 (scaling). Those were the good old days. Whenever Kalista was locked in, I'd insta lock Taric for his point an click stun to ruin her day. But I was definitely an old school Aatrox, Shen and Swain enjoyer. What a wild ride League has been over the years.
Of the many things I miss, I still have the old champion select music for ranked solo queue in my memory forever.
It felt so fitting and always gave me the eagerness to play before ranked matches started.
Old Aatrox was my first lvl 7 champion. I was gold/plat at that time and absolutely no one in ranked new how to play against him since very few people were playing him. I have not once played Aatrox since the rework.
Oh good one. I did not know about the armor version of mejai and yeah old rune system was gross.

This was a great great great video man! Appreciate the effort you put into this, felt so nostalgic as I had started league back in S1 and till this day I still play. League has changed so much and Dominion use to be a mode where people make customs and play hide and seek. Unfortunately as Riot grew bigger and was bought by Tencent, all they had in mind was $$$.
Use to hop on league to have fun, and now, hopping on league only for Solo Q :(

I remember a roaming strategy with AP mid-lane Sion buying boots of mobility for easy ganks.
I remember on the ascension gamemode the enemy had heimer camping on some objective area so we decided to avoid that part and don't kill heimer as long a possible so there are moment in that game in which the heimer is so behind in items because the only way to go back to the shop platform is if you die or you have an ability that let's you teleport like tf/galio/tahm kench.
The twisted tree line you showed was the final version. It looked waayyyy different when it was first released. Vilemaw wasn’t a thing for a few years, and the jungle had some spawn points above the top lane. Plus, no altars to capture
One thing I miss, because it was so great for beginner, is a Feature in CHamp select.
You could hover over a Champion and get shown a short description for all the Abilitys, the Champ had.
I miss Twisted Treeline so fcking bad
I started playing in 2010. When Kennen was released. And back then my graphics were messed up. So I spent a pretty long time playing on a fully black screen. The only visible things were champions, minions, structures (turrets, fountain, Nexus, etc), jungle camps (when you were close to them) and bushes. Everything that was "not interactive" with the player was black. I had no idea of the map´s shape. And I had no idea of the "Fog of War" either.
Was a nice surprise to see the map after a time.
Dayum... I really remembered all of it and back in the days I wasnt even considered a newer player. I started with Shivannas release :D I just realized I did not remember the buffs for smiting until it was brought up here.

Ive been playing on and off since open beta. Long before there was a que it was just custom games. You had to lvl your account 100% in custom games. It was really cool when you found players of similar skill/vibe you would jam games back to back.
Hourglass and deathcap were the same item.
I vaguely remember my brother forcing me to play brand jungle in 2013, no clue what was going on and could barely reach the keyboard, insane that after 4 years of properly playing the game now I'm closing in on masters, I love this game but at the same time hate it, but its cool to see they are slowly bringing life back into the game with arena and somewhat thought-out balance changes recently. Shame I could never have tried any of these game modes :(

I feel like RIot is walking down the wrong path. LoL back then was a game that was very fun to play either alone or with friends. Now Riot does not see it as a game but is instead, pushing League as a 'sport'. Riot, LoL will never be a sport, it has been and will always be a game, so really that is the one thing that Riot needs to fix, make it a game again, and lots of people will make a comeback. Less try hards and toxicity, more fun.
I miss the old Yorick! I got into him just before his rework and I thought he was a ton of fun, and I occasionally dabbled in Twisted Treeline, it was a cool little different experience
Wow. Thanks for this blast from the past... Now i can show my newer league friends how much better, and worse we had it back then lol. Don't think ill ever have as much fun with league now, as I did back then.
Something i remember was leashing in jungle. There was a time when midlane would hit blue, run back and forth where the blue(aggroed by mid) would also just run back and forth allowing the jungler to take it for no damage.
Same thing with dragon too
I saw that trick and I heard that it was called a "superman leash"
I really fcking miss playing costume Hide and Seek on Dominion. Like it was probably one if not the reason i fell in love with league of legends back in 2013
The funniest game I played on that map was "Catch the Teemo". It was so funny when Teemo was found and one team put excessive focus on taking him down.

You forgot to mention the theme it once used - "Welcome to League of Legends - Theme" it should have always stayed the theme of this game, aswell as the draft pick version "Classic Summoner's Rift Champion Select - Draft Pick".
I played since season 2, and later I mostly played the new Twisted Treeline in team ranked. When Riot deleted the Twisted Treeline map, that was the reason why I stopped playing the game :(

i remember playing back in the day, and i also miss the tribunal, twisted treeline, and tbh i kinda miss the old champ select even tho people hated it, it forced people to have to have a general knowledge on every role in the past, now a days we dont have that and then we have people not knowing how roles generally work now a days, which leads to a lack of overall game knowledge,
tho im on the verge of quitting league just due to how bad its gotten to play, it just doesnt feel good to play, and then the balance team is a super joke this season,

I miss OG Poppy. Given a bit of lane help, that was one fun AP assassin. Run into enemy team from the back, take out a target (or 2) while near literally immortal, then leg it into the jungle. Farming was hell though.
I also want doom bots back. Loved the chaos of that.
Also, wdym, Rabadon's Deathcap and Zhonya's Hourglass? Try Zhonya's Ring.
I totally forgot about the jungle camp buffs, and I hated the buffs at the start because it was a sudden chsnge on my main lane

You know what I miss? A gamemode that was there for only so little of time, everyone apparently forgot it existed: Blood Moon Mode. Y'know, where you had to hunt those Kalista Ghosts and only Champs availible were those with a Blood Moon Skin
I am a old Poppy Main. Sheen into TrinityForce, phantomdancer, IE and bloodthirster was soo much fun. More fun was seeing the enemys rage about beeing oneshotted 😂😂❤

i remember when they announced urf as a champion and said his spotlight comes 1st april (2011). then that day they said urf died to warwick and the spotlight is canceled and released the urf skin for 5000 rp (discounted to 50rp). people were so confused for a while. where gromp is now there used to be a ghost of urf. but it only showed up sometimes.
I've played this game since season 1, and what I miss the most are the old specialization trees and runes (quints etc) the game felt more cusotomizable back then. Prolly also harder to balance but at least people had fun playing it instead of going into each game with a negative mindset 💀
There was a different Version of DFG before that dealt % current HP dmg scaling with AP. You could get up to like 50% iirc. Also There was a version of twisted treeline before that one which had a dragon
Ah yes, I seem to recall using that item on OG Ryze with his stacking magic resist reduction on Flux. Isolate someone, get off a full Flux bounce sequence between the two of you, then fire DFG and laugh. Something like that. That, and DFG Veigar being more obnoxious than ever.
Season 3 vel,koz and Braum releases fun times I still remember having a blast with getting 6 warmogs on cho gath.

I atill rmemeber the bilgewater event where GP was killed off and removes from the game before being brought back. That and the announcer being GP's voice and ARAM being the butchers bridge was so much fun
what was not said about, but what is no longer there: old summoner spells (revival), and vision (yew blue accessory), I also remember the item on the forester who gave wards.
Weedwick is what made me start playing ww. Still my favorite champ. I was playing Olaf and got smoked by ww, R outta bushes we auto each other to death and he out Regen Olaf w. Disappear back to jg after. Had me hooked. Ww use to be a point and click kill with R and old jg knife. Was straight broken.

I remeber copying "mid" and instanrly spamming it into chat champ select. Broken thing was giving cassiopeia gromp so she can spam q at lv 1

Back then you could make a Ranked Team/Guild. Then add members up to 10+ people. Then play either Summoners Rift or Twisted Treeline 5v5's and 3v3's. It was Flex before Flex except you could only play with members within your group. You could create and disband the team anytime you wanted too. Say you lose all your promos and your team gets bronze? no problem. Delete the team and create a new one and hope for a higher rank, it was so fun. It was the closest thing to feeling like playing in pro team with your friend.
I also remember around 2018 you had clubs, and those were very cool. Having clan tag in your name and an in-game group chat to always message everyone at once who wanted to play.
omg i miss twisted tree line, i started out on cait and kindred and I was like bad bad, granted i think most of my treeline matches were PLAGUED with bots it was the most fun i had before arena came out (still kinda bs that riot did nothing to fix fiora/trundle and just let them do whatever tf they want)

Old aatrox narrative was the wildest shit ever to me. Legit been playing since his release, NEVER saw his ass again after that one time he was meta in his release year, and I was playing 10 solo q games a day for 5 years straight.
Dominion was the best map ever. You could do a custom dominion and play hide and seek and oh boy it was such a banger... If i could bring 1 thing from old league it would be definitely the dominion map
