      According to Astro Physicist's around the world our oceans contain absorb or release 50 times the Co2 we humans could ever dream of causing. Dinosaurs lived in Alberta's 1600 - 6000ppm Co2 subtropical climate for 120 million years. Then about 60million years ago Alberta got cold and was subsequently buried under a Kilometer of Ice until about 10 thousand years ago. And now we have the coolish 380ppm Co2 Alberta climate of today. There is one thing I do know about all of this climate drama example.

We currently have around 94% of corals suffering from extreme bleaching. If this continues 25% of the oceans food supply ends. That will be catastrophic, both economically and ecologically. Humans are putting the cycle of greenhouse gases out of balance. The vegetation simply isn't able to process the excess we are generating, and the oceans are taking up the excess. It is not sustainable.

    Even to agree with the doctor there are plenty of solutions that can be implemented before we get to the green new deal. On the Idea of Food transportation there is a new wave of "Aeroponic Farms" that can take up defunct sky scrapers in order to bring vertical farming to the city for vegetables in order to reduce food transportation traffic (while reducing energy usage, removing food seasonality and also and reducing water usage). There is a lot that can be done this is just a way to package socialism to the next generation and indoctrinate children against capitalism.

  • @gfsrow
    @gfsrow Před 5 lety

    Patrick Moore's complaint says more about him than it does about Representative AOC. (1) The GND is (a) a legitimate concern and (b) project (i.e., it's feasible), and (c) it's proposed application is for USA (not for the entire world). Moreover, (2) the GND is not only legitimate, it's quite doable, albeit requiring a full court press by all concerned. Not to mention that it's now necessary because (3) both government and industry have been dragging their feet thus far, inexcusably, and not doing what needs to be done. (4) As for the rest of the world (China, Africa, the remainder of Asia, Europe, etc.), there are already various stages of transitioning to sustainable fuels and/or non-fossil fuels already in progress, and subsequent efforts can and should be made with alacrity to continue that transition process, plus we should be assisting others who might lack resources or technology to get that job done. (5) As for "socialism," that is a tired refrain, as well as inaccurate. Capitalism is still in its formative stages (only about 200 years old) (Adam Smith died in 1790), and it needs considerable improvement. For example, Adam Smith insisted that capitalism and/or capitalists should have nothing to do with government, nor should capitalism even influence government, since the self-centered interests of capitalists, and the roles of government, were so very different from each other. Plus even Libertarians are now realizing (Niskanen think tank), that a healthy capitalism requires a strong welfare state at its core. Lastly, (6) automation is here, and more of it is just around the corner. Over 4 million manufacturing jobs have already been lost (2000-2015) in the mid-West swing states (which is the only reason why Trump won the 2016 election - which had nothing to do with so-called 'globalization') (and the "Me First" MAGA methodology, with more "trickle down" nonsense, is precisely the opposite of what we should be doing to resolve the loss of those manufacturing positions, and the next wave of automation will target retail, truck drivers, call centers, and fast food; within 10-15 years we're looking at 20-25% unemployment or higher, and that percentage will continue to increase as automation with A.I. moves into the services (legal, medical, financial), and starts replacing white collar jobs as well. (Autonomous vehicles will soon be here, and that alone could generate as much as 12-15% unemployment). Bottom line (7) a strong safety net, indeed a Universal Basic Income (UBI), will be required to hold USA together in one piece, and the term "socialism" will cease to have any reference since that term implies a choice (with something else), except that there will no longer be any choice; plus it's ironic that capitalism itself will have generated this transformation since it is bringing about both the automation (that is projected to create up to 50% permanent unemployment by mid-century), and the UBI needed to resolve that unemployment. Welcome to the future. Today's GOP has no clue about any of this, which is not surprising, given that today's GOP - after its hijacking by fundamentalists and also by Tea Party types (neither of whom have any clue about genuine reality) - is and has been obsessed (for years) with pure fiction and worse. Anyone who now still supports GOP candidates is endorsing both pure fantasy and national suicide. If, however, voters wish to move into the future, then they must vote for "Blue" candidates.

Let’s start talking sanely, instead of this kind of rhetorical nonsense which does nothing to address our problems...we can’t can’t kick our fossil fuel addiction overnight, but we can move in a better direction. We can transition towards a greener more efficient, lower carbon future, and we can incentivize that transition. Business as usual means a disastrous future, a future of water wars in places like the Middle East, crop failures, climate migrants etc, etc. We should get back in the Paris accord and LEAD.
