    Question:
    Take the first letter pronunciation of each of this words:
    Algorithm - Ultimate - Explotion - Rapid
    Can these words be pronounced like the sounds of the previous words, in this way:
    Hour -> a•u•e•r
    Our -> a•u•r
    ?

    Currently struggling with this debate as I write poetry. I think the "proper" pronunciation is "ow-er" but when I speak casually, I typically pronounce it as "are". I'm writing poetry and one of my rhymes is "star" with "our" (pronounced as "are") and I'm nervous people are going to read it and pronounce it as "hour" which will not fit the rhyme and sound out of place. Technically, either pronunciation is correct but I don't want my writing to look unintelligent as if that's an error. I'm hoping that because "star" is first, it will set the precedent for the following rhyming word pronunciation.

    • @tarlespeech
      @tarlespeech  Před 2 lety +3

      Hello and thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree that there is no correct or more or less intelligent sounding choice. That being said, many people have strong opinions on pronunciation that I hear often. What makes me laugh is one day people will tell me how wrong I am. Then the next that I’m too judgmental. You can’t win so just pick which works and go with that. All the best and good luck with the poem!

    Technically, there is such a thing as proper pronunciation of a word. It isn't said any way you wish to say it and it isn't up to the listener to try and figure out what you are TRYING to say.
    "Our" is said the same has "hour". The reason being that the "h" is silent in "hour" which is pronounced exactly like the word "our". "Are" is a completely different word- a verb, actually!
