  • The Carnivore's Dilemma: Is It Ethical to Eat MEAT from Industrial Farms? | Meat Lobby | Business Documentary from 2018
In this film, first-time father and prize-winning journalist Benoît Bringer investigates whether we should still eat meat. As the population grows and the pressure to provide cheap food increases, there has been a drive towards relentless productivity and industrialized farming. Animal cruelty, major health issues and environmental damage are inevitable consequences. We can all see the problem. But are there alternatives? The documentary goes on a journey to the United States, Portugal, France, Sweden and Germany and reveals the worst excesses of industrial farming and positive alternatives.

@@texmexspm You are mistaken. The largest organization of nutrition professionals officially declared-
"It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.
Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes. A vegetarian diet is defined as one that does not include meat (including fowl) or seafood, or products containing those foods. This article reviews the current data related to key nutrients for vegetarians including protein, n-3 fatty acids, iron, zinc, iodine, calcium, and vitamins D and B-12. A vegetarian diet can meet current recommendations for all of these nutrients. In some cases, supplements or fortified foods can provide useful amounts of important nutrients. An evidence- based review showed that vegetarian diets can be nutritionally adequate in pregnancy and result in positive maternal and infant health outcomes. The results of an evidence-based review showed that a vegetarian diet is associated with a lower risk of death from ischemic heart disease. Vegetarians also appear to have lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and lower rates of hypertension and type 2 diabetes than nonvegetarians. Furthermore, vegetarians tend to have a lower body mass index and lower overall cancer rates. Features of a vegetarian diet that may reduce risk of chronic disease include lower intakes of saturated fat and cholesterol and higher intakes of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, soy products, fiber, and phytochemicals. The variability of dietary practices among vegetarians makes individual assessment of dietary adequacy essential. In addition to assessing dietary adequacy, food and nutrition professionals can also play key roles in educating vegetarians about sources of specific nutrients, food purchase and preparation, and dietary modifications to meet their needs."

It is primarily a question of whether you're willing to critique or fight capitalism. It's greed and maximising profits at any cost that are destructive. Money does not bleed, or feel, or go hungry. Animals and people do. No matter what the food chain you're part of is like, there shouldn't be needless suffering (like animal abuse, human exploitation, or toxic chemicals).

  • @madrededeus

As a key component of the perpetuation of
oppression, all alienation must be destroyed. As long as we can ignore the suffering in the slaughterhouse, in the vivisection lab, we can ignore the conditions of the third world, the urban ghetto, child labor, human traffic, etc
Animals are less than humans not by nature, but by active dehumanization, a process by which people consciously deprive animals of their value.
Human exploitation and consumption of animals are facilitated by alienation.
People couldn't live the way they do - at the expense of animal suffering - if they understood the real effects of such consumption
It is absurd to think that a society that oppresses
non-human animals can become a society that does not oppress humans. Recognizing the
animal oppression then becomes a prerequisite for radical social change.
The humans who are abused tend to mistreat others, and animals are among the easiest victims. This exposes yet another reason why
those concerned about the welfare of animals
    must combat social oppression.
The inability to speak or reasoning "intelligently" does not subject infants or people with severe mental retardation at the violence that millions of non-humans suffer daily
Everything in our society, today it tells us that we "need" drugs and meat.
What we really need is to destroy that kind of society.

For the regular Joe, is almost impossible to afford the prices of animal protein from these companies because takes longer to get the eggs, meat or fish. Same goes for vegetables. Organic food is way more expensive. To get cheaper food, corporations don't really care about animal feelings. Only the way to maximize the profit. Sad but true.

Subgroup analyses of anxiety showed a higher risk of anxiety, mainly in participants under 26 years of age and in studies with a higher quality. More studies with better overall quality are needed to make clear positive or negative associations.”
Vegetarian diet and mental disorders: results from a representative community survey
“Vegetarians displayed elevated prevalence rates for depressive disorders, anxiety disorders and somatoform disorders. Due to the matching procedure, the findings cannot be explained by socio-demographic characteristics of vegetarians (e.g. higher rates of females, predominant residency in urban areas, high proportion of singles). The analysis of the respective ages at adoption of a vegetarian diet and onset of a mental disorder showed that the adoption of the vegetarian diet tends to follow the onset of mental disorders.”

    The simple answer: No.
It would be much more ethical to have sexual intercourse with animals, even harmless. Just like most sexuality is harmless and doesn't cause harm to other living beings or the environment.
Moral and 'ethic' is something created by society over time and tradition, it has nothing to do with what is actually harmlful , harmless or horrible.
For example is it ethical to castrate our dogs and cats and keep them in a closed space or even in an appartment their entire lifes? Of course not, it is horrible. They have social and sexual needs just as much (or even more strongly during mating season) than we do. It is a horrible what we do with animals completely legally.
Industrial mass production is even worse where animals have no space to often even move and have to stand on metal floors or bars their entire lifes.

I’m all for lab grown meat but even if we have lab grown meat we should still kill and eat animals on occasion just to stick it to animal rights and prevent them to create the degenerate ethical world. I rather have more animal death than allow these degenerates to have the last laught

Yeah, mind telling me how? Even the scientists are failing to scale it up.
If lab grown meat is what we were supposed to eat, why’s it so hard? How did we survive so long? Do you really think that we ever would have made it to this point if our most optimal diet was not long discovered? It’s the muscle meat and associated fats from large ruminant animals, with occasional spats of organ if we want.
Our brains have shrank since the agricultural revolution. Our brains got big after we started eating (and later cooking) meat… then, we cut back on meat, and they got smaller. Hm.

Where Do Humans Really Rank on the Food Chain?
We’re not at the top, but towards the middle, at a level similar to pigs and anchovies.
