Thanks for this video - I would have been completely stuck without it. It doesn't, however, tell the full story.
The metal catch has two functions:
    1. The two angled/forked prongs hold the trim firmly in place in service
    2. Two metal strips below them hold the catch (and hence trim) captive, presumably to stop the trim flying off completely in the case of air bag deployment. No amount of pulling will defeat these - they cannot be pulled over the head of the mushroom pin. Hence the need to slide the catch down to release the trim.
To slide the catch down as described in the video, first the trim must be pulled out sufficiently so that the mushroom head can pass under the small hood that forms part of the catch (adjacent to the prongs). The pillar trim is very stiff, so moving it back sufficiently requires a sharp pull to dislodge the next (conventional) clip, about a hand span further down the pillar trim. Once this is done, the clip can be pushed in sufficiently with a large flat-blade screwdriver to allow the mushroom head to move under the small hood. The trim can then be to be lifted off the mushroom pin and the pillar trim to eased upwards and off.
When replacing the trim, I suggest you DO NOT first slide the clip back into its in-service position. Doing so would then require the captive strips to be forced over the mushroom head, and I don't believe the clip is designed for this. The amount of force required would be excessive, I'd say.
Instead, replace the trim by easing it in at the bottom and pushing it in at the top far enough for the clip to pass over the mushroom head. Place the tip of a large flat-blade screwdriver under the end of the clip to lever it upwards to its in-service position (the small tab located in the rectangular hole in the plastic housing). The captive strips will then be beneath the mushroom head. Give the trim a solid tap with the heel of your palm and the pin head will slide up between the prongs to hold the trim firmly in place.

Lord Jesus your are a savior! I was tucking wires for the wife and it would not go all the way back. This helped tremendously! Don’t forget push the middle of the trim itself in when putting it back on. ❤

I like how smooth the transition was.....
"OK so just move slide the tab back in place"
    (Ka-ching)
**Metal tab shoots out onto chest/torso**
"And you see here.....this is what it looks like...."
    Lol
    Too smooth my friend....too smooth!

    I found it very helpful.
Even if I push the catch for sliding with a flathead screwdriver with all my strength, it is hard and does not move.
How many centimeters of trim do you have to pull forward to slide the catch down?

That looks eerily similar to a Porsche 992 clip.

Would you say this would be the same on a 2023 Audi q3?

    • @ajtowle6
      @ajtowle6  Před rokem +1

Its a good question. I would guess the probability is high that it is the same, however without access to a 2023 Q3, I can't confirm. Anybody with one feel like checking?

After attempting this on my q3 2023 they have used a different style of clip, which is very similar in style but different all together :(
