N.B. There is already a new version 1.2 just uploaded as this video was uploading itself, that fixes the slight green tint of the aprons and also some other minor things eg Z fighting on some ground objects.
I cannot tell you just how excited I am that we now have an incredibly detailed version of Duxford in Microsoft Flight Simulator thanks to ChicoMick.....and the amazing thing is that this is freeware but at high quality payware levels of workmanship.
Duxford in the sim is the spiritual home of Dreamsofwings. You may have seen previous videos on the channel where we flew from here in P3D using the ACG freeware version.
There will be lots more videos in the future from here and I look forward to bumping into some of you (not literally) around this virtual warbird sanctuary!

As a few people have pointed out now, UK is still part of Europe as a geographical area but not the EU as an organisation. Hope that clears that up and if you are wondering why on earth this comment is pinned on a video about some Duxford scenery you will know it when you get to it.
My Spiritual Home. I have lost count of the number of times that I have visitied this amazing place. I have family who live in Fowlmere and my parents lived in Sawston until they passed away, so I have a strong family connection to Duxford. It is living, breathing Museum that is a must visit for any aviation enthusiast. This scenery is simply stunning and is far too good for Freeware. This should be Payware to reward ChicoMick for his amazing efforts. I have just donated on PayPal and I would urge others to do likewise. Thank You Mick.

This looks amazing. I’ve been to Duxford many times, including flying into it a few times, and this is incredibly accurate scenery. The museum is well worth a visit, I highly recommend it to anyone watching this great video.

gorgeous airfield model!! One of the places I want to see someday in real life! My uncle was a B-24 pilot based in England and I found what used to be the airfields he flew out of in Metfield and North Pickenham. would love to see them!

back in the 90s, love the place and this is going to be free ! i'd pay money for this no problem.
The fact it is free amazes me. That’s why it seemed only right to make a donation. The quality is right up there. Such a joy to look around.
I flew to this last night. Absolute treat to explore in VR, not only is this payware quality, it's better than the four Orbx airfields I've bought so far, and on a par with Burning Blue Design's excellent airfields that I own. Unbelieveable for a first project.

Btw, awesome takeoff!! Airborne, the Spit flies wonderfully well, but it gives me worms on every takeoff! I've never had one even remotely that straight! LOL

Hey thanks Rob, hope all is good with you. The ground handling in MSFS generally seems quite squirrely and erratic! Thos spit is better than it was but I agree it can be odd at times! This scenery is fantastic. Can’t wait to fly an A2A warbird from it.
Without doubt this is one of the best scenery packages available and exceeds many payware products as well. I have visited Duxford many times and can attest to the accuracy portrayed here. I have the MKIX spit and thoroughly enjoy flying here. Once the grass is 'cut' (Asobo problem I believe) and other mods the developer is doing, this will just keep getting better and better. This is truly classy!

I was a regular visitor to Duxford when I lived up the road in Cambridge, and I must say the quality of work done on this is astonishing. Glad to hear it's work-in-progress - I really hope something can be done about the long grass. No doubt the Britten-Norman Trislander will soon appear, too.

I am from Wisconsin and near Oshkosh. EAA is my favourite time of the year. I am thinking EAA is missing the boat in not having a mod designed for their fly-in. As you fly your spit over Duxford...I imagine flying my P-38 over the Oshkosh air show and then landing at Wittman Field to the wonder of the throngs of gathered air enthusiasts...smiles.
I wish the FlyingIron P-38 would have offered a skin for "Glacier Girl". I have seen her at EAA on her first visit...in pieces and newly recovered from the Greenland glacier...to each of her return visits after being fully restored. Years ago...there was a model of the Glacier Girl available for FSX...which I flew then. I was always hoping someone would create Glacier Girl again. One can dream, eh?

Immediately downloaded Duxford and subscribed to your channel! The scenary is phenominal - the fact that it is freeware just blows me away. Just a comment, if you will permit, in relation to closing the door as part of your pre-take off checks. I notice you closed it fully. In fact, IRL, it was closed on the catch i.e. not fully closed, in order to prevent the canopy sliding forward during take off. The simulation models this. Nice t/o BTW :)

This is an amazing addon. The detail is incredible, right down to the amazing kids park and the war memorial. Love that it has optional airshow files so you can fly there like it's a normal week or change it up and feel like part of one of the greatest airshows in the world. Can't wait to see what else is added and hope to see a few regular airshow atendees such as the B17 and Lockheed Constellation appear at some point. Truly outstanding work though and even if the creator never adds another thing it's already one of the best airstrips in the game for me.

I’m at Duxford once or twice a month an know it intimately now. Absolutely spot on. Really captured the atmosphere. Only one small critique is the grass is kept much shorter than this. Perhaps that can’t be helped.
The grass was an issue caused by the simulator itself but this was fixed on a subsequent update. Now the grass appears how it should do.

Thank so much for your prompt answer. Microsoft sims have always in my opinion failed to get the lighting of inside of the cockpit along with the outside views realistically balanced. It always looked as if the lower part of the screen that mostly displays the dash & instruments etc had been pasted on as a last minute afterthought, spoiling the whole overall effect.
I love 2nd world war air COMBAT sims & flying aircraft so have always been a massive fan of IL2 Sturmovik based sims. I mostly fly the Spitfire 5b, Yak-1b & La-5 etc. using my worldwide call sign, redstardwh.
I must say this add on version you have promoted is just fantastic & displays in my mind a massive step forward in Microsoft sims. The best screen display I have ever seen by far.
I feel I could land that spitfire as good as you after watching this video as I use the same settings. I do however lack knowing the correct engine start up order as IL2 uses start up short cuts. However it also has many qualities which does include of course simulating armed aircraft engaging in air combat.
Yes I know what you mean. I fly the A2A warbirds in P3Dv5 which has had some improvements over previous MSFS tech but, whilst the A2A aircraft are much more realistic (to the point the Spit technology is used by spitfires.com to train real world pilots converting to type) but the lighting and visuals in the sim are a few steps behind MSFS 2020. This new version has take. The realistic visuals to the next level. I’ve had many occasions where screenshots on the Dreamsofwings Instagram have been confused with photographs of the real thing.
I fly combat in IL2 Great Battles but tend to jump in there with the shortcuts. In the non-combat sims I tend to do more serious checklist flying.

How do you locate Duxford when you're coming into land? The area is so flat (no features) and when I try to get my bearings I end up going round in circles because I'm a bit lost.
You could contact ATC and ask for information on airport position... or use vfr map maybe

Beautiful, I may revisit MSFS. I was sad to learn that Old Sarum was shut to flights two years ago, I as a student pilot flew in and out of there numerous times, it was the longest operational airfield of the wars going back to the first world war, and now is under threat of permanent closure.
Please, to those that love our history; if there's anything you can do to honour it etc, please do.
That is very sad news, long time Salisbury resident until left to Long Beach 20 years ago. I'm going to guess the shooting range is probably closed as well.... LOL in the late 80's someone would do donuts on the grass at Old Sarum, I have no idea who that was!

At the moment this particular livery I use hasn’t been made available for download anywhere but I am sure it won’t be long before a G-ILDA comes along

Hello, I have downloaded this scenery and put it into the community folder. However this has not installed. Is there anything special I need to do. By the way, thanks for the amazing video.

Are there 2 separate download links for this programme, one with spectators and one without? And when downloading, do I select 'save' or 'run' for it to be installed??
Many thanks! There are two files that I would save, one that just adds in the spectators and another that adds the main body of the airport scenery, these come as zip files that you uncompress and then place in your community packages folder. Cracking scenery!

@@nathanarmstrong3209 if you click on the link next to Download duxford scenery here it takes you to a page and if memory serves me right you download the main file there and it also gives you a link to the optional crowd file.

@@nathanarmstrong3209 you would want to save the zip files to downloads and then once you unzip them, move/copy those files to your community folder.

Hard to say, I guess that will need Asobo to find a way of allowing Xbox users to access third party content that PC users can just download through a browser.
Can I ask a question regarding the model of the F.I. Spit MkIXc please? I have it also on the latest version of MS Flight Simulator. However, with my model, when you look at the external view there's a large rectangular box on the underside, in the centre, in-between the two radiator cowlings. It looks really ugly, but it's not on your model in this video. I don't mean the small oval inlet under the nose near the prop. Is this box supposed to be there? It looks like an integral part of the model, so I'm wondering if it's a variant or something that can be switched off. I'd appreciate any feedback please. :o)
External centre fuel tank, 'slipper tank' I think you mean. If you have fuel selected in centre tank I think it appears on the model. Also it can be jettisoned by pulling a handle in cockpit, see manual.
Yes exactly as MrEp880 says. To the right of your seat lower down you will see a big ‘ring pull’ handle that you need to click on. For some reason it is fitted as default load out,

Just one tiny suggestion - why don't all the CZcams posters get rid of the toolbar from MSFS 2020? Its SO SIMPLE! It detracts from our viewing experience. One tiny tweak and it's gone. Please consider it. Thanks
Would be great to have ai traffic with warbirds, dragon rapides etc buzzing around.
There’s quite often other sim pilots flying around in warbirds so it has a nice ‘living’ feel to it at times.

This is for the latest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator by Asobo. www.flightsimulator.com I am using the PC version. At the moment you cant use add-ons on the Xbox version unless they are in the in-sim marketplace.
How on Earth do we get this pushed onto the Xbox system???
We really need this as an option on the market place?

I’ve not read anything first hand but I’ve been told that apparently Asobo are looking at a way of allowing Xbox users to get to this kind of freeware content.

Ah, well that’s a good question and only Asobo know the answer. Hopefully something they will fix in future updates of the sim.

Not sure what WU6 is; sorry; I actually had 4 members of the Microsoft team working inside my PC ( I have a backup ) trying to figure out the issue; the last person decide that I had missing or corrupt DLLs in Win 10. I ran a couple of command prompts that were given to me that said the DLL issue was now clear. So, I purchased a second sim on line and the same issue . It was the premium deluxe version. Last Microsoft agent told me that ( after all the work ) that this is a known issue and applies to updates too. So, I could but a third copy and try in on Win 11, but should I. Got to be a pain in the ass.
@@mooch2amber3 yes really not sure what the answer is, especially if MS have had a look, WU6 was that last big update. Seems you are not alone though.
