Make your ramps reversible. I did that with my old trailer and whenever they started to sag, I'd flip em. Kept them straight for years.
Or you can just use I shape (IPE) profiles lengthwise...
BRILLIANT

great idea man!
Out of all the CZcams makers you’re my favorite for caring so much about your dog 🐶
Trucker Josh does a good job with Diesel as well, Andrew is the man though! He builds it, he buys the broken stuff, he fixes it, he runs it! AND he built a castle!!!
Andrew Camarata services a small utility trailer.
Every time I watch a new Andrew video, the like button is just smashed, and I have no idea how it happened. It's just constantly getting smashed, all the time, instantly.

You and me both - he was losing a bit of the ramps mechanical advantage I'm thinking - but it's earning money before perfection and you know eventually he'll put it right.
The ramps were mostly there to lower the trailer's rear end down when he was driving on to it, lol
Lol you're right. Everytime I see those lights on a trailer they're smashed.

Truth
Back when Metal reached it's all time high prices, My Brother in law has so many cars around his farm they Brought a car cruser and front end loaded,, haul about about 15 tractor trailer coal trucks for of crushed cars . he made a killing. I've got one brother in law that builds trailers in his spare time, he's build them big enough to haul heavy equipment on, no telling how man he's build. I really enjoy watching your videos. your castle is awesome !
I like those LED recessed lights. This was the best route to do Andrew.
I'll say it again I don't know what I enjoy more You maintaining your equipment Or your contract videos.! Always great content
I've literally not seen one bad video from Andrew, they are all interesting and fun to watch. The last one with Levi in the snowmobile trailer was awesome !

LED lites, soldering & shrink tube! Perfect combination!
I've read that solder with vibrating cables leads to breaking compared to just crimping.
@@dejayrezme8617 no..not if it's done right. Solder is soft.
@@jimb032 But how do you do it right or wrong? I don't see how you could "feather" the solder from a solid blob to flexible cabling. At least not reliably.

Love seeing things get brought back to new again. So many people just go buy new stuff instead of simply maintaining what they already have.
I agree with you on having all the right trailer lights. Great repairs and modifications!
It's good that he repaired them during "downtime" when he had no other paying job. Stopping work on a project to repair the trailer is not good. It also keeps the D.O.T. off his back. He doesn't need to be pulled over in the middle of a job. Delays can be costly.
Just love when you take care of your equipment, it look so much better. Thank you for sharing your story. God bless you and your family
Agreed. Actually, I'm sort of bit of a OCD type deal, it sort of does irritate me a bit when certain things aren't really clean.

If you weld a plate (or strips) of metal on the underside of those trailer ramps, they shouldn't bend as easy anymore. Even better would be a V shaped construction, connected to the ramp at both ends, and in the middle of the ramp, connected to the point of the V. This V construction could interfere with (un)loading in some cases though, although it wouldn't be too bad.
100% yup. Like when the Bobcat broke.
Yup, angle iron must be the most common crap used for load bearing structures. I agree with Mr. Derks. Think of the top part receiving compression and the bottom stretching, on the bottom you have only a 1/2 x 1/4 piece receiving all the stretch.
Or he could attach jacks to the rear end of the trailer
That would improve the stability of the trailer, but it wouldn't decrease the load on the ramps, or increase their rigidity. If anything, it would increase the load.
@@timderks5960
It's better to just make I-beams out of 1/4" bar and do cross bracing in two dimensions instead of just one before attaching the top plates.
It's a pain in the ass, but they'll last for decades.
Andrew to stop your paint from skinning up stand can upside down. an old painter in the uk.videos are excellent thanks.

Such a gentle touch! i love this guy! Andrew you are a hilarious bad ass.
I'm so happy you straighten out those ramps...that bugged me every time I saw them. You probably could have made a stronger repair though
Andrew Suderman they won’t be straight for long.
Andrew Suderman, I agree, I think he needs to add some angle iron or square tubing to the ramps for strength. But even though they were curved, they served him well.
I swear nothing is ever good enough for anyone on the internet. But if you were hanging with Andrew you would be kissing his ass. 😂. He knows what he’s doing trust me he wouldn’t do something half ass just to have to re do the job in the near future.
That will hold just fine.
@@affordablepropertymaintena9213 you don't think I'd tell a friend that they should build it stronger? I'd probably give a friend a harder time than a CZcamsr
@@affordablepropertymaintena9213 Remember, these are the comments of people who I highly doubt ever built a trailer from scratch.
Great video !! Why not weld stands on the ramps to prevent bending them again when unloading equipment? You may not want the additional weight. Thanks
Greetings from Dixonville, Andrew. No snow in Upstate. We have it all in our mountains; no drought this year. Pushed a car off the cliff? Imagine the quarry owner's surprise. Carry on. Thanks for the entertainment.
Andrew you will find the wiring on your pick up isn't corroded but it has a black varnish coating that has to be scraped before soldering. Contractors trailers always take a hiding. You made a good strong trailer and its paid for its self and then some. When they came into the shop we nearly always had to replace the trailer plug as they'd ripped it off the loom. So we made a short loom about 3 ft long and a plug fixed to the trailers frame so when the plug got run over or dragged off it only pulled the short loom from the trailers wiring plug and didn't tear the wiring out of the trailer. That saved a lot of frustration.
used motor oil for the boards - or so I heard :p
appreciate the timestamps in the description, even though I watch it fully :D
"I dont know how these lights get smashed....????"

You can use a drag cup with the plasma cutter to make near perfect circles.
Use a template with it.
Angle metal can be clamped at both ends to make straight line cuts.

Great video as always.. it's always good to do stuff like this when it's quite, now the trailer is in top shape ready for the year ahead, I would also be interested in a maintenance video on your big trailer that you tow behind the wagon if possible...
Nice vid earned a new sub! 😁
You could have added some additional steel profiles in the longitudal direction of those ramps. Without extra reenforcement I think they will just bend again over time.
Square tubing would do great
Or folding "legs" midway like many heavy duty trailers have.
You have some of the best building or diy videos on CZcams. Like how you explain everything that went wrong or could go wrong

Great job on the rehab of your trailer. Really enjoyed the vid.
I always wear a respirator when welding galvanized metals. I love that you solder and apply heat shrink to all of your electrical connections, nothing is worse than seeing a bunch of butt connectors on something, and most of the time they aren't even shrunk (some don't, but most do). I love you videos, you make me want to fix my pos 99 ram 2500 that's been sitting around for a few years.

great to come along as you get to the level where you can fine tune your repairs and upgrade those types of much needed fixes to keep your operation moving along... also your ideal about the plasma circle cutter giving you income is so upper level, finding the solutions that work best and applying them is such a massive time management component that if you track it, your old school "if it works dont mess with it" might be challenged and some other options could better be serve, anyway its great to see your level of attention to your equipment...the Camarata school of thought, "take care of your and it will take care of you" includes Levi too! so cool the shots of your built and you in depth cost analysis versus product quality which you factor in and the key factor you acknowledge, all the experiences (hands on ) that you download so readily now giving you skills which are marketable and so interconnected to all phases of life's ...stay safe your health is the marrow of your very being
