- Why was Matthias and not Paul chose to replace Judas? Who was Matthias in the Bible, and why was he selected to replace Judas? What happened to St Matthias after he became one of the 12 disciples of Jesus? In this video, Pastor Nelson with Bible Munch answers the question, “Was Matthias or Paul God’s choice to replace Judas as the 12th apostle?”

They (the 11) were given authority to make these decisions.
“Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” - Jesus
Matthew 18:18-20 NKJV
I'm fully satisfied with the answer. Thanks and kind regards, Matthias. 😉
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂
Well explained 👏
Paul would certainly be an outlier to the group, looking from the outside in. An evidential case of the Truth of the Gospel would have been challenged from the outside...not that this would matter, but for good order, a Galilean that witnessed our Lord's crucifixion and divine event of the resurrection when both happened is the type of perfect order God shows us. Matthias was indeed the perfect match for replacing Judas.
Thank you!
Thanks for this, I was curious and couldn't actually find a direct answer from my friends.
Good question and discussion topic.
I say Matthias as well, but love Paul.
My two questions: Was Matthias in the upper room at the Lord's supper (you may ask, was Paul? But that would not answer my question) My point is, Matthias was not one of the 12 from the beginning and was excluded by the Lord according to God's will. My second question would be: Did God or the Lord command the apostles to decide who would replace Judas as the twelfth apostle by casting lot? You would think after the soldiers who crucified the Lord and then "cast lot" to determine who would win his clothing, you would think that would be the last thing that the apostles would want to do (cast lot) to determine anything. The casting of lot should have been one of the most repulsive activities that their minds would have thought to do and then further to join their hands to that thought. Let's remember that the apostles were not infallible, and just because any given act of theirs was not rebuked by God does not mean that it was ordained by God. The Lord included Paul, for it was God's will that the Lord include Paul, make him an apostle, and then as His apostle send out as His apostle.
I was remiss in also including the administration Of God the Holy Spirit in the ordination of Paul as the twelfth apostle and in the readying of Paul for his office as the twelfth apostle.
Ok let us see.
The Apostles already had been blown with the Holy Spirit by Jesus.
John 20 22
22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”
The Apostles prayed to God.
24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen.
Casting lots was not always evil
Jonah was identified in the ship he was escaping by casting of lots. Jonah 1: 7
“Joshua then cast lots for them in Shiloh in the presence of the LORD, and there he distributed the land to the Israelites according to their tribal divisions.” Joshua 18:10
5 They divided them impartially by casting lots, for there were officials of the sanctuary and officials of God among the descendants of both Eleazar and Ithamar. 1 chronicles 15 24
8 He is to cast lots for the two goats-one lot for the LORD and the other for the scapegoat. Leviticus 16:8
1 Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem. The rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten of them to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the remaining nine were to stay in their own towns. Nehemiah 11 1
Now what does the Bible says about the other Apostles:
14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting:
Acts 14 4
BARNABAS and Paul are called an Apostle when not being one of the 12 as well as Paul.
Acts 6 2
2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.
which twelve?
Acts 6 happened before Paul's conversion.
The Bible counts 12 although you may choose not to believe that the Bible counts 12 before the conversion of Paul.
Casting lots was a common practice in Bible times. (Proverbs 16:33) The selection of Matthias is the last time the Bible shows lots being used in this way. The later outpouring of holy spirit rendered that method obsolete.
Why were lots used? The apostles prayed at Acts 1:23,24 which showed they wanted the choice to be Jehovah God’s. Matthias was likely one of the 70 disciples whom Jesus had sent out to preach, so Matthias was chosen to become one of “the Twelve.”(Acts 6:2)
For a minute I almost thought you were Mike Winger
We weren't there to see how Matthias furthered the Church at that time.
We weren't? 😊
Acts answers this question
No persons made Paul an Apostle. .HE said Jesus did it...but he changed his description of their meeting, and this is why he called himself an apostle. Did Paul admit that he lied to glorify God?
Have you done a full study on Paul? Why NOT?❤
Can you provide chapter and verse when you quote scripture for people like me who would like to reference what you said, and don't have as much knowledge of scripture to recall where to look. Thank you.
Acts 1:26
And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
This is deeper than just taking the verse at face value. There is biblical proof to support that Matthias can't be the 12th Apostle.

Mattaish is the 12th
The Twelve were commissioned as Apostles to the Jews (primarily), until the Lord commanded Peter to minister to the Gentiles. Paul was commissioned as an Apostle for the Gentiles. Even Paul, didn't count himself as one of the twelve (1Cor 15:5). So Matthias is the answer.
Paul didn't count himself an Apostle, in humbleness, because he reminds himself of how he persecuted the Messiah's people. Read 1 Cor 15: 9-10
@@wendy8506 still, not part of the Twelve. Because the twelve were commissioned to evangelize the Jews. Paul was commissioned to evangelize the Gentiles. He's a special Apostle to whom we are reached.
@@glassworks4850makes sense because Matthias is still chosen by the other 11 apostles to replace Judas Iscariot whereas Paul only became prominent when the other apostles are already starting their respective ministries

@@wendy8506 Corinthians 15:8 "And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. Corinthians 15:9 Paul didn't say, I am not an Apostle, he said, "I am the least of the Apostles". Paul goes on to say (as I understand it) he was undeserving to be called an apostle because he persecuted the Church of God..but by the grace of God, "I am what I am"
Luke documented the action as a fulfilment of scripture. I have no doubt that Matthias was the perfect choice. Act 1:20 “For it is written in the Book of Psalms, “‘May his camp become desolate, and let there be no one to dwell in it’; and “‘Let another take his office.’ There was a command that another had to rake his office and Luke records the fulfilment of it. They did not gamble, the prayed to God and the feeling the scripture brings is that God was involved in the choice. I don't know why this is an issue? In the OT the spirit did guide people and they also casted lots.
In kjv Lord JESUS says that one of the apostles want see death until he sees the kingdom of heaven comes down
Question; Judges over the 12 tribes which includes two half tribes ...so 13 judges?
Paul! I believe in his miraculous call on the road to Damascus. I believe that Jesus called Paul to be an apostle, whether Matthias remained an apostle or not.
there are only 12 apostles. do you believe joseph smith too?

Paul was rejected for forsaking the covenant and teaching others to do the same... Acts 21: 21/ Acts 21: 27-30.. Titus 1 : 10.. Galatians 2: 7- 8.. only 12 apostles... Revelation 21: 14.. God allows lots to be taken to inherit the Land.. Paul created Christianity for Rome.. Paul caused all to be cut off. .. genesis 17: 13-14.. Ezekiel 44: 9
So who will be the 12th disciple to judge the 12 tribes? Definitely not the Roman agent Paul.
Roman agent?
whose Paul? I thought it was Joseph, called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus?
Please do your research by starting to read the Holy Scriptures first.

Actual 15 Apostles
Is it because Paul wrote over 60% of the New Testament
that why Paul holds authority nothing to do with God's plan.

What about Peter's testimony of Paul's credibility? That's enough for me
I find this to be a worthy analysis, so please do not misunderstand me when I say that, regardless of whose name will be written on the 12th foundation in the Heavenly Jerusalem, I would be much more comfortable with the apostles making a choice at all if they had prayed before even nominating Matthias and Barsabbas and even before deciding to try to select a 12th apostle in the first place. They should have taken a day to pray and fast about such a monumental undertaking. In short, their prayer came too late. The apostles, apparently on their own authority, chose to select someone and left God out of that process altogether (that is, assuming that the Bible simply didn't record a prayer that actually took place).
They did pray before casting lots. See Acts 1:24
@@flutep2069 True, but that was still well after THEY had decided to select a 12th apostle. They should have prayed before that.
@@ajmittendorf No Paul was a fasle self apointed apostle.
@@finalfrontier001 That's a lie from Satan, himself. Even Peter acknowledged Paul's writings as "Scripture," Liar, so if Peter knows Paul is legit, then the rest of us can.

Paul was a fake impersonator of an apostle...contradicting not only himself but Jesus and the Apostles in his "teachings"...Ask yourself why is he so prominent? How was the Bible tampered with and why are there 66 books? Paul was supposedly the 13th apostle who happened to write 13 books of the NT. Hmm
Matthias!
Paul is a deceiver!
I think it's Paul, read Romans 11: 13 he said, I am the Apostle of the gentiles,

Who are those white guys in the thumbnail? Cause if Yahusha had hair like wool, and skin like brass......
Cool story bro
Jesus did not have His heavenly appearance when He lived as a man. Furthermore the description given in Revelation is more figurative than literal. The white woolen hair symbolises the lamb.
Let’s see: THE twelve apostles (Revelation 21:14), Paul was called by Jesus Himself as an apostle (1 Corinthians 1:1, 2 Corinthians 1:1, Galatians 1:1), therefore there cannot be 13 apostles. Paul I believe replaced Judas.
1 Cor. 15:5, Paul didn't count himself as one of the Twelve.
@@glassworks4850 Correct, Paul didn't regards himself worthy but the fact is that the Messiah have chosen him on his way to Damascus.

Yes, God chose Paul, but Matthias chose by the apostles
It’s Paul. The “requirements” you’re speaking of in verses 20-21 were requirements made up by the apostles. Yes Psalms speaks of another filling the spot, but the apostles were chosen by Jesus. Revelation 21:14 The apostles of The Lamb. The apostles were told to wait, not chose the 12th. Sarah did the same thing by not waiting and gave Tamar to Abraham in order to have a son. “They” is consistently said in chapter one of Acts. Jesus did not chose Matthias.
I agree.
Paul!!!!!
Paul!!!
"Will the Jewish people love a 45 year old, catholic, polish women as their Jewish Messiah" That's how I already revealed myself back in October. My name is MAGDALENA this time. If that's not enough proof that JESUS was a Messiah then there is another one. Everything God showed me and told me happened outside... GOD IS NOT INSIDE THE CHURCHES🕊🕊🕊
Jesus chose all 12 discples face to face just as he chose paul on the road to Damascus .Paul done more for CHRIST and his church than anyone else in the new testament , Paul is the lords replacement for judas
There is no evidence Jesus choose Pual top the road to Damascus.
the New Testament calls Paul an Apostle multiple times! this should be enough to see him as Judas' replacement. and Paul DID meet the requirement of seeing the risen Jesus because Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus, and taught him directly for 3 years. Further, those "qualifications" laid out in Acts 1 aren't inspired of God, necessarily, since Luke is simply quoting Peter... what's inspired here is the account, not necessarily the teaching.
No it bdoes not stop lying to yourself.
Paul claimed Jesus rasied to him no other apostle belives that.
Jesus picked apostles, so Paul.
again pure speculation cuz God never acknowledges Paul god only knows of Mathias. Remember to be a an apostle you must ahve met Jesus Mathias met and walked with Jesus not Paul.
The eleven were called directly by Jesus. Paul was called directly by Jesus. Matthias was not.
AMEN
False, Jesus never met or saw Jesus at all. Mathgias met Jesus and walked with him.
You can only have 12 apostles. Paul is clearly an apostle. So…
As always everything here is conjecture . Matthias was never mentioned again because he was not part of God's plan , remember our God is not a vain God , He does not do things without a purpose .
Most important of all , God never said that it was imperative that there should always be 12 apostles , otherwise apostles should have been replaced as they were killed .
And God told them to wait for the Holy Spirit because It was to be the guiding Spirit after Paul and the apostles had finished what was apportioned for them to do by God .
The Messiah chose 12. After Judas fell away, that place had to be filled again to make it 12. The number 12 is important and holy. Matthias wasn't chosen by Messiah. Paul was directly chosen on his way to Damascus, by the Messiah. Acts 9:4, Acts 22:7. According to Revelation 21:14, It must be twelve. All other apostles appointed after those twelve, until today, are apostles and not Apostles, because they don't fit the criteria to be true Apostles.
@@wendy8506 Mathias was chosen by the discples which replaced Judas, Mathias wlaked and lived with Jesus, Paul did not. Paul never saw or met Jesus.
