  • In this video I show you how to build a small, low power NAS server. You only need a Raspberry Pi device and a solid-state drive to build a NAS server. In addition, you can connect more hard drives for expansion needs if

    Thanks so much for the video! I am hoping it will work for me. I am currently running Home Assistant on a microSD card in my Raspberry Pi 4, but I thought I could just pull the card, insert a new one (after imaging as you said) and hook-up my miniDNLA disk to it. My question is if I follow all your directions for turning the miniDNLA disk into a NAS can I replace my original SD card (containing my Home Assistant OS), boot up the Pi and will the miniDNLA / NAS still work?

    this is the old version of omv (5). I guess RPi3 can't use the latest version which is more noob friendly.
    v6 works fine on RPI4

    Can we make it as router too without additional router?

    • @mattmichaels3175
      @mattmichaels3175 Před rokem

      It only has one NIC so while possible, you'll need to buy an adapter

    • @KorbenDalasCZ
      @KorbenDalasCZ Před rokem

      Yes, we can make a router on one network card. It is more complicated and you will need a switch with VLAN support, one VLAN will be for connecting to the Internet, the other VLAN will be for connecting to the local network. You connect the RPI to the switch. In the configuration of the switch, you define two VLANs and assign them to individual ports, you set the port that is connected to the RPi as a TRUNK that contains both VLANs. In the software for the router that is installed on the RPi, you then set the VLAN and define the virtual interface and that's it, you have a single-port router :-)

    Why there were NO speed tests? Just because Rasberry NAS solutions sucks ?

    • @MSM5500
      @MSM5500 Před rokem +2

      "Rasberry NAS solutions sucks ?"
      yes, they do.
      Odroid HC4 SBC has got 2 SATA connectors onboard via native PCI-E interface for $73. It's way better that these dodgy NAS solutions on Raspberry Pi but you cannot expect high performance from NAS built on ARM platform anyways.
