    great video, this was a quick and easy way to bypass a local account password. One road block I experienced was that the cmd prompt seemed to time out and disappear if I did not execute the commands quick enough. Any comments on this? I do run Kaspersky on the machine I used to test this (if that may be relevant).

    • @AskYourComputerGuy
      @AskYourComputerGuy  Před rokem

      Never heard of the command prompt window timing out. To make that happen would require an a Windows function call, which sounds virus-driven. But with Kaspersky, that's not likely. Definitely an odd problem I've never seen

      Best guess is that you didn't overwrite the utilman.exe file. That's the most common problem. The icon points to utilman.exe, so if you replace that with cmd.exe, it will open command prompt. Try again and verify that it asks you to confirm overwriting the file

      I thought I addressed it in the end of the video, but maybe not. Jus reverse the original process of renaming. If you backed up utilman.exe to utilman.bak, then you can "copy utilman.bak utilman.exe". Basically you're replacing the utilman.xxx back to its original location. The "new" utilman is actually cmd.exe (command prompt), so we have to put it back to where it was originally
