  • In this video, we respond to viewer comments received here at Calling All Ports over the past few months. Topics include the benefits of cruise line mobile apps (and the environmental impact of all that paper cruise lines fill your cabin with on a daily basis), as well as the hot debate over cruise ship dress codes.
    This video is based on our recent series of videos about cruising on the ultra-luxury line Regent Seven Seas Splendor. If you would like to watch any of our Splendor cruise ship videos, check out this playlist:

    Thank you for such a well thought out vlog. Dress code will ALWAYS be a point of contention with people today. I worked for American Airlines, a lifetime ago; you know, when you dressed up when you flew, AND the people who brought you to the airport dressed up. Won't ever see that again, I fear. Enough about that! Today' "dress code" is ever-changing and I like to dress up, but not everyone is me. One last thing before I bore you to death, I like to wear a tuxedo on "formal nights", one night on Celebrity, someone asked me why I was wearing a tuxedo on "casual" night. I answered, "I'm from Boston...this IS casual." Thanks again, and I love your graphics!

      Your responses are never boring! We appreciate your perspective, as it’s similar to how we feel. Dress codes should reflect current trends. But people should never be deterred from dressing to the nines! We were recently on Cunard, and while the formality was just a bit too formal for us, we loved seeing people in their tuxedos. It’s interesting to see how the different lines approach formality, even more interesting to hear cruisers’ takes. So thank you for commenting, we loved reading it!

    At work I have 2 huge screens, at home my own PC and a smart phone of course. Relaxing vacation is no app & no screen.
    On a cruise I usually do one movie at the theater and the TV in the cabin is usually only on for the ship tracker channel.. ;)
    The only exception was on our British isles cruise just after the passing of Queen Elizabeth : we were glued to the BBC to follow the events. (French here)

      You’re right, it’s nice to disconnect. But for us, we liked to have the option. Fortunately, Regent agrees now and are slowly introducing across the fleet, starting with Grandeur.

      @@callingallportsHaving the option is nice. Unfortunately nowadays most companies impose the shift to all...
      And there is the issue it's not only a tool to do things, but those steal our data...

    I like have the mobile app. With this I can text my husband and family through the app. I have dressed nice in the MDR but have also been known to wear a cap..

      We’re on Oceania now and it’s really interesting, they make it very clear what their rules are on cap wearing. Very appreciated. Caps okay during the day, only in the buffet area at night.

      I do not disagree - the right pair of jeans can be very stylish.

    No need to have an app on a small cruise

      Many people seem to share that opinion. We’re curious - why do you think small ships do not need apps?

    • @xavierm3415
      @xavierm3415 Před 4 měsíci

      @@callingallportsI think the huge crowds of mega ships are a logistical nightmare and an app is the only to cope. Just my 2 cents.

      @@xavierm3415 an app certainly helps with the larger ships, you’re absolutely right
