My son (21) has celiac so they were fantastic with him. We did one newer ship with the “Magic Carpet” that was really cool. We did Alaska last year. Lots of cool places to hang out in. We did Alaska last summer. Both trips last year were still Covid concerns and both you had to test prior. Jan one was in the height of the Omicron surge and there were maybe 1200 people. July one unfortunately one of our group got Covid and they sequestered him and were great with the whole situation. We wore masks inside on both of those. Thank you for sharing the kind of ultra-luxury (6-star) cruise-ship that most people will never experience (not least of all because what it charges per night can easily buy a week on most other cruise-ships). I was smiling at your comments about the buffet-menus and the stable menus in most venues.....and then wondering what your menus at home are compared even the pool-deck breakfast buffet at sea? Bottom line: there are so many items in any buffet that, even if it were the same 100 items every morning, you would be able to choose different items every day for 1 to 2 weeks without repeating! Everyday life is so repetitive and boring compared with even an average cruise-ship.....

    • @callingallports
      @callingallports  Před rokem

      Thanks for your comment. The Regent Splendor buffet is a decent size, but much smaller than what you'd find on other cruise ships. Although there was a decent amount of variety, we ended up eating the same things day after day as the offerings were repetitive (same style of eggs, same potatoes day after day). Just a bit of variation would have been great, considering, as you mentioned, the hefty price tag. We recently took a cruise on Holland America and were amazed by the different offerings - we did not have the same thing twice, which was lovely.

    • @brentshuffler1234
      @brentshuffler1234 Před rokem +1

      @@callingallports Well, thanks for that clarification. Yes, I agree with you about Holland America (and likewise Royal Caribbean . . . and even Carnival). Huge buffets four times per day on all of the major cruise-lines! This is one of the reasons that I never go on the luxury cruise-lines: they offer more and better in many respects but not 300% to 500% more to justify the price-differentials. Just like it never made sense to me to pay First Class airfare when it is 3 to 5 times the Economy airfare.....and they are all going the same place.....and it is all done within hours....A cruise is a bargain by comparison!

    Loved your video. We are sailing on the Splendor in July, and have also sailed on the Mariner and the Explorer. On both ships there were some hit and misses in the dining. On the Mariner we ate at Prime 7 a couple of times. The first time the food was terrible. Cold and tough steaks. The second time it was great.
    The food on the Explorer was in my opinion much better. We had been told that the portions were small at Pacific Rim, and just ordered extra accordingly. On the Explorer it was just after Covid so the number of people sailing was about 75% capacity. I think The food and serving time was better because of that reason.

    Been on Splendor twice now. Wonderful ship, cabins and crew. The food is great, but not top-notch foodie material. I mean think about it. Everything prepared on a ship has to come out of a can or the walk-in frig/freezer. There is no way it can be as fresh as what you'd find in a local independent gourmet restaurant. So a family of 10 X $750 X 16 = $120,000 Trip, that's $7,500 a day! Personally, I think they would have done much better on a Cunard QM2, Queen's Grille, sailing.

      Yes, it is quite a lot for a single sailing, but our decision was based on the itinerary first, cruise line second. Curious to hear your opinion, what makes Queen's Grille the better way to go?

      @@callingallports There is always a lot more choice for vegans, for vegetarians, and for health-conscious folks at the immense buffets, quite apart from dedicated items on menus.....and now some ships have dedicated spa cuisine e.g., Vitality Cafe on Royal Caribbean mega-ships. A key tip: make special requests before the cruise. That way, it will be much easier for the cruise-line staff to procure appropriate items, and to prepare meals to your specific needs. The more people ask for healthier cuisine, the more cruiselines, airlines, hotels, restaurants, and other providers will expand their healthy options.

    Timely service with a party of 12 will always be a problem even in the best of restaurants. As for cold food or eggs not done correctly did you bring it to the attention of your server and give them a chance to make it right? Seems to me the least you should do before you make it an issue on a video like this.
    We have done 5 Regent cruises and have three more in the pipeline. While never perfect we have found like in life you do get what you pay for and we are not fighting four or five thousand people to get on or off the ship etc.

    • @callingallports
      @callingallports  Před rokem

      Yes, we did mention food issues to the staff. We tend to not send items back however, as we do not like to waste food. And most of our dining issues, however, came when we were in smaller groups - not our party of 10.
      We do think it is important to highlight the shortcomings, rather than present a sanitized view. It is important for people watching to know that while Regent food is very good it may not be faultless.
