- From legendary storyteller and master of short fiction Stephen King comes an extraordinary new collection of twelve short stories, many never-before-published, and some of his best EVER.
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life-both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest. King writes to feel “the exhilaration of leaving ordinary day-to-day life behind,” and in You Like It Darker, listeners will feel that exhilaration too, again and again.
“Two Talented Bastids” explores the long-hidden secret of how the eponymous gentlemen got their skills. In “Danny Coughlin’s Bad Dream,” a brief and unprecedented psychic flash upends dozens of lives, Danny’s most catastrophically. In “Rattlesnakes,” a sequel to Cujo, a grieving widower travels to Florida for respite and instead receives an unexpected inheritance-with major strings attached. In “The Dreamers,” a taciturn Vietnam vet answers a job ad and learns that there are some corners of the universe best left unexplored. “The Answer Man” asks if prescience is good luck or bad and reminds us that a life marked by unbearable tragedy can still be meaningful.
King’s ability to surprise, amaze, and bring us both terror and solace remains unsurpassed. Each of these stories holds its own thrills, joys, and mysteries; each feels iconic. You like it darker? You got it.

The thought that King is getting up there in age and his stories will cease to exist when he does terrifies me
Read his stories a little bit deeper.....
In other words, Stephen king the author is no longer a man, but an operation
To give a little comfort, Michael Crichton, who wrote Jurassic Park died in 2008 and they're still finding old unpublished manuscripts by him and publishing them. A sequel to one of his books was published in 2019 and an unfinished manuscript that was later finished by James Patterson was published just a few weeks ago. The book is called Eruption if you're interested.
King himself has an entire safe filled unpublished manuscripts that he said he'll publish whenever he can't think of a new idea. So it's likely that after he passes, we'll still be getting lots of new stories from him after.
Edit: plus we'll still have Joe Hill who's only 52.
@@redseaweedcupcakes4837 I suspect king, like so many people would be somewhat selective about what he wants published. Just because things are found when the eventual scarcity arrives, doesn’t mean the leftovers are all hidden gems.
His son writes just like him.😅
In the middle of listening to these stories, I had to take the time out to comment about how the plots, narration and everything else you can think of about these stories, ARE AMAZING !

Wait… what!?
Will Patton does a fantastic job reading this. I never thought anybody could do as well as Frank Muller(who used to read all of SK's books RIP) but he's pretty damn close.
Voice actors don't get enough recognition.
Sadly that's true. Don't know why though? So many people listen to audio books.
He did such a brilliant job ❤
Nice! I’m gonna enjoy this before it’s taken down 87 minutes from now. :)
Ayuh!
8 days and I'm listening 😏 Crossing my fingers I finish it before YT pulls it 😒😒
3 weeks...
I think this may be deliberate...
July 14th - so far so good
Still here 😂
absolutely classic and excellent King. he never disappoints and hasnt lost an ounce of his skill. well done Mr king, pls never stop
Just realized it's a crocodile on the cover!
I did 0nly cause you said it lol now I can't unsee it 😅 7:33:12
@@kajsab23 i don't think anyone has mentioned it! I'm listening to the audio book now, I think I've read one of the stories before though.....the inn? Is it where the family is driving and they come across two men and one of the kids notice a dead woman?
LOL. I didn't notice until I saw your post!
I just realized it is an island too 😂
Right you are. At first glance I thought it was an island 😱
Danny Coughlins bad dream 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾🔥🔥🔥
Couldn't agree more. What a banger. I let my groceries defrost listening to it.

Thank you SO much❣️ Very thoughtful of you 👍🏻🧡 🪨 on Constant reader. ❤😻
There is a second part to this with the rest of the 12 stories.
Note to self: NEVER report a murder. Just mind own business
Let me add this important self note for everyone to keep mind: Never work so hard in any job you have, or even dedicate your life to a job either. Since they are all ungrateful and would can whomever without any fair reason.
@@Persephonie22You speak truth.
@@Gallop4Me Luckily I learned that life lesson from my Mother. This is why I say this to all since it's so true.
@@Persephonie22don't work hard is terrible advice.
@@MicovskiMC I don't think anyone should work so hard for anyone at any job. Since no matter how good or bad you are at it you could always be easily replaced. Unless its your own business that you are putting all of your time, money and effort.
Love the Danny story. Just bought the whole book for it. Also, Will Patton is the best narrator e v e r!!!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Will Patton is so good!
Will Patron is for sure a legend! Those detective books were magic when he read them. The outsider, the detective Hodges series I was sold on his gift
Fabulous. Loving it ❤❤
Great stories, great narration. Thank you.
Love will patton
Im.so.excited!
Come on danny first thing u ever say to the cops is lawyer
Dude narrating sounds like Tony soprano
1:31:20 Oh...that is a catchy tune. Question. Is there any possible way you can have that entire dance track running throughout the entirety of the audiobook. Damn, hope so.
Wait. Judge Judy 1978?
Will Patton ranks with the best readers including Frank Muller.
100% xx
Well done just subscribed
What a weird music break - in the middle of a sentence - between about 1:20:30 and 1:30:00.
Moral of Danny's story: Keep Your Mouth Shut. See Nothing, Say Nothing. Mind Your Business and answer everything with "I don't know". Stay in your lane and hope you don't get sideswiped.

I love how King never criticized the plandemic. Great p.r. for The Stand rerelease wouldn't you say?
7:44:28 ❤ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
☝️First! Mom said I could never do it.
Wow, you came up with this. Congrats on your amazing feat of skill and knowledge. Your prize will arrive on the second Tuesday of next week.
Your girl says it happens all the time
So what?
People still do this?
See, I have a YT channel, and I'm not monetized, so I make sure to verbally abuse all the "first" babies who comment. I pin the comment, and just roast their ascots, saying how sad it is that these people feel like they have accomplished something by sitting on YT all day, waiting for a video so they can use it as a race to prove how lame they are.
Are you 5?
Did your parents not pay enough attention to you?
Is your day so boring and empty that THIS is its highlight?
How about go out and do something during the day, and then when the new video comes out, you'll be the 5th comment, but you won't feel so sad, empty, and small inside, because you DID ACTUAL THINGS during the day IN REAL LIFE, so you won't give a spit about being first or 500th.
No channel owner wants to upload a video and see the new comment is some butt-for-brains pretending it's a highschool popularity contest
Your life sucks. Why do you feel good about yourself for one second by being first in a race to prove you have no life?
Are you gonna tell your grandkids about the time you made the first comment on a video?
No. You won't have kids, you have zero life and an insecure psyche and who would like you when you don't even like yourself?
What a *****le
👆🏽Fill in the blanks because I've gotten too many bans lately for bullying, and YT is threatening to shut down my channel.
It's pretty obvious why your mom has no faith in you, because you think this is important, and you have no life.
At least she said you still live in her basement, eating pizza rolls that she pays for, pretending to go out looking for work, but really just hiding in the bathroom, "wrapping" presents with her Victoria's Secret catalog and a bottle of baby oil.

So it's really easy to get immersed in his writing until SK slaps a political statement in there as subtle as a bumper sticker on a Maserati
21min…
I swear, theres music just as it gets to the point of the first story I can't be bothered with this!
There is. It's really weird! If you skip forward it picks back up though
It literally last 30 seconds...nothing to fall apart over😂
Youll take your medicine
It's to get past the issue with copyright. You want to listen to a brand new book for free? Put up with a couple of minutes interruption, otherwise go and pay for the audiobook yourself or buy the book 🙄
Horrible reader. His accent is tough at times
Damn politics ruined the story
King who is a known liberal Trump hater could not resist putting this crap into his stories
