It would be unbelievable if it wasn't actually a true story. What a crazy life. Spilotro dug his own grave, literally. He was described as being so focused as a gangster but yet, he couldn't keep his hands off Geri. The movie did a great job putting this story on the big screen. One of my favorites.

I keep hearing about how intelligent Tony The Ant was.
I don’t think he was anywhere close to being as smart as is documented.
Tony botched up everything for the mob in Las Vegas with his lack of restraint.
To piss the top brass off the Chicago Outfit and have them murder you doesn’t add up to being that smart.
The little Runt and his brother sure took a pounding physically before being thrown in a dirt grave in a corn Feild.
RIP Tony, Mike, Rosenthal and Frank Cullotta.

I think the confusion is based on what is meant by intelligence. Of course he was not a man of intellect. His lack of education is apparent when reading the transcripts of fbi wire conversations he had and the words he use in those conversations. However, he certainly had some immense street smarts to him. He was an infamous figure for a decade prior to his death and the authorities failed time and time again to take him down. He was being talked about on the news in Vegas from the mid 1970s yet he remained on the street until 86 and the government never got him.
Also, for the record, the reasoning you gave for his murder was directly argued against by Frank Cullotta. Frank himself stated that Joey Aiuppa loved Tony Spilotro and that a move was only made on Tony because Joey was no longer on the street. The new guys who took over (Joe Ferriola etc) had it in for Tony and used the opportunity to take out Tony and his brother.

Can't believe this is such a short book. There is so much more interesting stuff to this story. If a writer and the story are good, 10 hours should be a minimum, not 3 hours.

Jesus Christ. As much as I love Casino....what an ugly fucking story! Same with Goodfellas. We got some classic films out of these people but good God this shits nastyyyyyyy! Fucking horrifying.

I don’t think it’s abridged. I own the unabridged copy of the book, and it is very thin.
