    I like this album. Maybe you dont like their style or that they are popular but this is a solid release from them and one of their best imo. I suspect all the bad reviews will be from people who never liked Trivium.

      Necrotic Nick- I was at one time a pretty big fan but I kinda grew out of them. I never really got on the hate train though because I never felt they deserved it. My only grip was really the shoehorning in of all the poppy choruses on every track. While it worked on some it felt forced on others and did help the song. That's just me though.

      Necrotic Nick- I thought it was pretty solid. I wish they'd not throw in a giant chorus on every track but outside of that I had very few complaints.

    Trivium was a band I wrote off for years and years, I think because of who ended up being their fanbase when In Waves was out (mostly edgy emo teenagers, at least at my school!), and I did also expect them to be exactly like their other metalcore counterparts, who I mostly don't like. Then I saw them at Download 2019 and heard the Sin and the Sentence album, and realised how wrong I was about them. Live, they absolutely blew me away, they were on fire and were great fun to watch (thank god, I'd stood through fucking Skindred in the pissing rain just to be in the pit for them), and I think the SATS album is fucking awesome. The last album wasn't as good as that, but still decent. Just listening to the singles they released I feel this is an improvement. I still haven't listened to the rest of the album due to being away from home, but what I have heard I've liked a lot. I feel like they've finally hit their stride again with these last few albums and found their definitive sound, after a good 3 or so albums of pretty mediocre material and not knowing what the fuck they wanted to be!

      Necrotic Nick- I used to be big into this band years ago. I saw them for the first time on the second stage at Ozzfest in 2005 and they killed. I just recently saw them again with Megadeth and they sounded great so I thought it was time to check out their material. Honestly, most of it I thought was really solid. The only thing that puts me of it the giant choruses in every song. Some of them just need to be bereft of that because it takes the balls out of the song. Feast of Flames also kinda stood out as an obvious radio nugget but honestly, this was pretty good. There's definitely some new favorites from them on here.

    • @liametheridge9148
      @liametheridge9148 Před 2 lety +1

      @@thrallsofmetal yeah I can see how some of the hooks can take the balls out of the song. I have heard various spots across their discography where it does feel a little shoehorned in, but I don't feel too much of an issue there cause not only are the hooks not necessarily bad (even if they don't exactly fit), 9 times out of 10 the guitar work and the drum work for the rest of the song compensates for it. They're definitely a super talented bunch of guys and when they get the formula right it's fucking awesome. They're touring in the UK next month with Tesseract, and I'm hoping that I manage to grab a ticket 🤘🤘

    Wasn’t a big fan of this band because of his pretty boy image, before he turned bald, but after listening to this album in which I enjoy the cover I sure enjoy his vocals. Very aggressive fits perfect, didn’t overdo it. I now take them seriously because they really have passion in this album. 🤘

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  Před 2 lety +2

      Necrotic Nick- They did a bit of the "pretty boy" image early on but I think they've always been a solid band I just kinda grew out of the sound. This is a pretty good album but I still have issues with all the clean choruses. Some of them just feel forced or like they just felt they had to squeeze one in even though it didn't fit. Still, when they're on they are on and there's some legit bangers on this.

      Funnily enough, I'm pretty sure the "pretty boy image" was kinda forced onto Matt by the producers, as that was what was popular at the time. Even their early stuff wasn't really written with the intention of appealing to a wide audience, so it'd be weird if it were Matt himself who made himself wear fkn thongs just to fit in the tight leather he'd appear in during the Ascendancy era.

    I really like this album. It’s way better than their last album What The Dead Men Say, definitely more strong and cohesive. I’d probably give it a 4/5. As for Matt’s vocals, I do agree they can sound a bit weird and forced at times. That’s because up until their album Vengeance Falls, he was screaming and singing incorrectly. He blew out his voice in 2014 and had to learn how to do a proper “safe” scream and sing without straining himself. He does a correct technique live but uses his old incorrect technique on the albums. I also agree that every song has a big chorus but it doesn’t bother me too much. A Crisis Of Revelation and Fall Into Your Hands have less dramatic choruses.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  Před 2 lety +1

      Necrotic Nick- I still think this is good and I do remember he started getting a vocal coach so he wouldn't destroy his voice. He has decent harsh vocals but it's mostly the clean delivery or maybe just the choruses themselves. I did like the more subdued choruses on Fall Into Your Hands and A Crisis of Revelation though.
