Synopsis:
A Chance in the World is the unbelievable real life story of Steve, a wounded and broken boy destined to become a man of resilience and vision. From the day he is five-years-old and dropped off at his foster home of the next eleven years, Steve is mentally and physically tortured by Betty (his foster mother), Willie (her husband) and his foster siblings. This movie broke my heart and hit very close to home. I didnt have CPS so when i ran away at 12 from the group home I ran to the streets. I never missed school because of the school lunch then after school i would pick a bus and get off at a random stop others kids were getting off. Until i picked one bus that landed me on 39th and Lucust in Milwaukee WI. There met my best friend and was able to eat at his house sometimes. When it was time to go in for all the kids in the neighborhood I would play like i was heading home and go to this abandoned garage in the ally ( I did this for about 5 months through the winter) until one day my friend wanted to walk me home ... So i went to a random house and said bye goodnight then walked to the back of the house and played like i was going in but he took to long to leave, after stalling about 15 minutes he finally did.. few days after that night while at his house his mother called me into the room... I was terrified, She said .... ***** I know whats going on, My heart pounding i turned to leave fast and she spoke up ****** stop come here i found your worker.... I cried out please no im fine ill just leave and go home im ok... She cut me off and asked me would i like to become their family .... I was saved by the love of a real mother

To let him repeat, "his parents don't love him", is so tremendous cruel, it certainly breaks him inside! As well the lie about his father. 😢😢😢
Narcissists like to say, "Who do you think you are" and they never treat anyone to anything good. That's why the mother tore up the scholarship application to hurt the boy.
They are masters of manipulation. They work with: Intimidation, scaremongering, fear, threats, gaslighting, shame and guilt.
Why this woman had 39 foster children is inexplicable !!!
In public they are the sweetest, nicest people, at home the atmost tyrants. They lie perfectly.
When they are nice to you (like the mother in the hosptal), is just to be crueler and meaner to you later.
During the day I listen to movies and work around the house when I started listening to this story I just couldn't listen to it I had to stop and watch this story so many times I caught myself tearing up what horrible people his foster family he had I pray all is good for this man now.
My heart ached watching what this young boy went through for no fault of his own, just needing a loving home and people he could trust. I have always wanted to be a foster parent. I myself was in foster care for 9 months because of my mom's drinking which she eventually died from. I had a very loving foster mom who was more like a mom to me than my real mom and stayed a part of my life for many years.

There are some cruel ppl it has been like this since beginning of time. Some ppl are born just to be cruel wicked. Some of these ppl can't sleep until they have done wicked cruel things. But there are also gd ppl . It really helps to know Jesus because it gives u hope that even though there are wicked cruel ppl there are also gd ppl. And there is a way that God can give u the tools to navigate through the hardest of times.
I was so angry to the evil,double-faced foster parents.I thank God that Steve find the courage to fight for his life.This movie touched my heart so much that cried a lot,even if I'm done watching.No one deserves to suffer maltreatment,regardless of color,religion and social status.Let's fight for our/children's lives.😮😢
Wowwwww this movie bought tears to my eyes, how can some people be so cruel to children especially when you are to help these foster kid's, Lord have Mercy.
The boy who portrayed Steve really deserves an award. Saddest movie, reminds me of my childhood.

Very touching. I could not believe that these fake foster parents could be so heartless. I wanted to know if they were shutdown because of the acts they committed against their foster child but the movie didn't say, so I picked up the book from the library to see if there was more about them. So sad, I cried.
One could cry how these adults talk to children .Where is love ? What has this boy done to be talking to like she does ?
We will live long to take care of our kids and watch them grow with their children's children.

This movie made me cry because I experienced some physical and psychological abuse too. No matter how much deep inner work you do, there is a part of you that never fully recovers. Without God, I wouldn't even be here. It made me so happy to see what this young man grew up to be. Once he decided he would no longer tolerate the abusive foster family, he became his own advocate and his whole life changed for the better. NO ONE deserves to be mistreated! That teacher was an Angel in human form.

I watch a lot of movies on u tube but because this was a child telling the story it really hit home. Hope the foster mum was removed from looking after children going forward, How many lives did she destroy. Steve you had God with you every step of the way and you finally found the courage to get out of that foster home. You totally turned your live around and the pain inflicted was finally stopped with you. A remarkable story. Thank you

Beautiful ending. Uplifting story. Just when you think you have been through something, and find out about what a child had to endure, it makes your problems seem so small.
How can you treat somebody's kid like that yet you also have children,,, what if you also pass away and they treat yours like that 😢

This was a cruel and nasty family. Why didnt the oldest brother report the abuse he knew was going on?
If you grow up in that environment and have been brainwashed it is all you know. If the system has failed you again and again you lose hope.

@@user-eh6nx1by4b True. He was waking up. In a disaster some people will risk their lives to save others, even strangers that they do not know. Some people will even die to save a stranger. Others will only save themselves without looking back. Some people grow up in that environment and they learn to be cruel and to hate for no reason, others have great empathy. Growing up in that environment and seeing the system fail over and over some lose hope and do not believe that it is possible for hope and change.

The foster system need to be torn down and rebuild with real systems in place for the protea of the minor children. I know people that see these children as dollars only, even some of their on loved ones in need. Never teaching them about character or showing them love. This movie touched my heart, yet disgusted me at the same time.

Some not all foster parents are in for the money. Here in New Zealand there are alot grandparents look after there own grandchildren.
I was in foster care in Hastings nz, trust me the carers were definitely in it for the money, my grandparents on both sides passed years before I was born.
MORE FYI( 4 th comment). I have many injuries because of the mob. I witnessed ( this day and age, my adult life) a cult member described cut the toes off of a little girl the age of some of my children. People ( same group) are still calling themselves plantation owners and slave owners. El Mayo in fact came from the Viet Cong from the time of the Vietnam War. Don't worry about some paranoias because you need to protect yourself and your children. Keep joutnals even to attest to your life. I am Exupery and wrote the Little Prince during my hospital stay but Nazi influence of the mind and drug assaults are real!
