- Before he became a legendary director, Martin Scorsese had his share of first jobs-and first mistakes. In this interview for WSJ. Magazine’s Innovators issue, the director behind "Goodfellas," "Mean Streets," and "Taxi Driver," among others, discusses his first experience on the set of “Smiles,” directed by John G. Avildsen of “Rocky,” and working with Albert and David Maysles. He also looks back on his job responsibilities at the edit desks in broadcast news and shares the storytelling drive that got him to where he is today, ahead of the release of "Killers of the Flower Moon."

they got scorsese for an interview and made it 4 mins 💀
It's really a waste.
Idk why mainstream media outlets do this so much online where there’s no time constraints.
This is so inspiring, and not just due to this being Mr. Scorsese! So many of these masters rarely discuss how they got started or sustained themselves.
If this is not already a series , it should be. Interview all the greats , I would love to hear their humble beginnings
So cool as a documentarian to learn that Scorsese worked with the Maysles.
I will hire him as a film director, he seems good.
I believe your assessment is correct 💯
Personally, I wouldn't bet on it.
How much money you got 😂
one of the greatest directors of all time. every interview is simply magical. a true master of his craft but always being a student and learning. GQ did a breakdown of his films and I wish they would breakdown all 26. may this man never leave us.

Wow! What s good story teller. Shouldn’t be surprised, since he’s such a talented film director…
I love all the press he's been getting !
It’s because of the actor’s strike. They’re not allowed to promote the film so he’s forced to do all the heavy-lifting.
@@victorkong82 well he's as charismatic as an actor so it works out anyway 😂
Shoutout to the cameraman pulling focus perfectly just as Martin talks about not being able to pull focus at 1:05
Ohhhh it's over!?!!? Too short! That was one of the better recent interviews.
Great questions by the interviewer!
Wish this video was longer!
This Scorsese kid, I think he'll go places.
0:28 I think the inspiration for Michael Corleone could easily been Marty I mean just looking at his younger self he coulda played that and Francis knew these young guys
Well he did help Coppola with the godfather in terms of how characters should speak to each other and filming locations
thank you! he is just genius
And now he's one of greatest directors in Hollywood
Why release snippets when you can have him do a whole podcast.
I'm a huge Martin Scorsese fan
It's so good to know how the masters started their careers!
Well, I’m off to read more🙏🏼
One the greatest ever film makers 🎥
❤ legend
We love you Marty! I took a beautiful girl on a date to see Good Fellas. One of the happiest days of my life. 😊
We love you, sir.
♥️
What a legend
i love this man
Message to me about Scorsese is believe in yourself and don't be afraid to be honest about yourself.
Audio is too low
This video is 3 hours too short
the internet is blessed again...
Still sharp at age 80. I can't even remember what I eat yesterday lol
Scorsese is the actual star of Killers of The Flower Moon as he is the ONLY one promoting this film due to SAG strike
Im with him. DC and Marvel arent films...
And I'm with you on this buddy
@walkerpaulp6526 live action cartoons. Maybe it's because I studied film but didn't have the guts to make it a career. I also still rather watch film in theaters.
His take was a little more nuanced, and I get where he is coming from.
They are most definitely films as long as they aren’t over-budgeted woke aestheticless studio factory products. Scorsese spoke fondly of the Raimi movies
@nitevibe9886 no they're not. We agree to disagree.
I love you so much😊
who is camera operator for this video?
That was me. Please don't tell me you didn't like my work! I might not survive it...
@@jurijnowicki8769it looks good buddy 😄
😅
@@MarkWTK it does! I think the camera work is fantastic!
Collin Farrell could play him if Scorsese has a biopic
Darren Criss looks more like the young Marty than Colin Farrell does!
A biopic already that would be AWESOME just got to have Marty's permission first.

It would’ve been good if I read more 📚 💛
Great career but new movie lifeless, drab, having none of his old passion or power.
Nolan is better than this old fraud. Nolan turned a 3 hour talkie WWII biopic, half of it in black and white and it made almost a billion dollars. Killers of the Flower Moon is a bomb lol.
