    I just tested the Brooks Cascadia 16 versus the HOKA Speedgoat 5 versus the Altra Lone Peak 7 in a thru-hike. The Brooks Cascadia 16 were the clear winners for me for hiking.

    Brooks best way to go so far,still going solid traction loose and sharp dirtroad,steep up and down,simply amazing pairs,especially when looking back..

    Correction: the Saucony Peregrine 13 has a thin rock plate. It's visible through the bottom of the shoe.

    The Saucony Peregrine do have a rock plate by the way.
    And just my experience, but i found my Hoka Speed Goat 5's have very poor grip in the wet. I fell several times in them when i feel i wouldn't have in my Saucony's. The rear lugs in my Hokas also wore away in less than 80 miles ;( For comfort and cushioning the Hokas are fantastic tho!

      I'm the opposite, Saucony is so bad when walking on the surface of rocks in areas with streams, I don't remember how many times I slipped and fell while wearing Saucony shoes during my trekking trip of more than 40km in nearly 3 days last month. before. Speedgoat was a quite different experience just 2 weeks later

      @@ngocduy2179are you saying the 13’s are slippery? I haven’t noticed that with the Xodus Ultra 2 with basically the same outsole design and materials. Have to say, the latest ASICS Trabuco’s (9-12) have the best grip, followed closely by the Xodus.

    Why are trail shoes grouped into the same category while road shoes are differentiated by speed, marathon, daily trainer, easy, etc.? I'd never compare a PrimeX with a Sinister, for example. I want a very different shoe for a trail 10k, marathon, 50-100mi, as well as dirt, mud, rocky, etc., and want to compare trail shoes within such categories.

      Well said! For example, is it realistic to believe that one trail shoe is going to shine in a 50km, or the likes of UTMB, or a stage race for that matter?

    • @hamilt55467
      @hamilt55467 Před 11 měsíci

      You can get away with bigger changes in street shoes because you're on the same exact ground. For trail shoes you need more of a do-it-all shoe, to suit the changing dynamics. That's what I've noticed.

    I owned a pair of SG5 and not impressed at all. The Vibram outsole went flat in under 6 months while my more bouncy Asics Trabuco 10 still barely shows any wear, same routes, and i feel more confident on inclines. Asicsgrip is far superior. My SG5 had its exposed foam cut and sheared by rock edges. Conversely, Asics trail shoes do not have foam showing. I've slipped in rain and over wet debris a gd few times with SG5 and another brand pair with Vibram sole, while never in the sticky Asicsgrip. You guys should review Asics Fuji Trabuco, Fuji Lite, Trabuco etc, superb on roots, rocks, pebble paths, mud upslope downslope etc.
    My husband got Cascadia, it is pretty good but not my kind of comfort.

      I could practically watch the lugs wear on my speedgoat 5s after each run. Really poor durability on the soles. Have been alternating with puma nitro shoes which have insanely durable and grippy soles.

      It's a big old shoe but super comfy and actually pretty stable. If I want to guarantee the finish line I put them on

    • @petejr7583
      @petejr7583 Před 4 měsíci

      The regular Trabuco 11 is more versatile, with still plenty of cushion, decent stability and crazy good grip.
      I love the Saucony Xodus Ultra 2 after removing that much too thick insert; the arch in the shoe was too flat for that pillow. Swapped inserts with my Endorphin Edge’s which had a thinner, but needed thicker, due to all the toe box volume in that; btw the Xodus is still extremely comfortable with the thinner insert. A great everything shoe.
      I just ordered a pair of the Peregrine 14’s from Public Lands, which have a very attractive bespoke light gray and dark green colorway. If they don’t do as well as the Xodus 2’s in more technical runs (they should), they’ll look great walking around town. 😃

    I need a trail neutral shoe wide enough for orthotics so need a boot like shoe .

    • @makb5354
      @makb5354 Před 8 měsíci

      Try Topo Terraventure 4 or other Topo. They have larger toe box, improved heel enclosure and smooth ride. Topo is improving in their line up but it seems that most reviewers are just clinging to review same brands over and over. Cascadia is a great shoe sat the moment and 17 feels even better than 16, but they will not fit your orthotics. In my experience, orthotics will make sole stiffer, and Brooks is already moderate with rock plate. Topo will feel like Hoka, be light as Hoka, have more room in toebox and way cheaper than Hoka.

    • @michaelpalm2210
      @michaelpalm2210 Před 6 měsíci

      Cascadia has room for orthotics.

  • @tiagolimaquintanilha3846

    I feel like Hoka is in another level at the moment. I just bought the peregrine 13 gtx for a change and it felt like a vulgar shoe. The Mafate 4 and the speedgoat 5 are both soo incredible shoes. And so different also. The last couple of months I got the salomon glide max tr, the zegama, the peregrine 13, mafate 4 and speedgoat 5. Nothing is comparable to hoka at this moment. I also have the cascadia and I always feel like they are boring shoes. Altra´s no more. So, in conclusion, the mafate 4 and the speedgoat 5 are by far my favourite ones. Perhaps the glide max tr comes next but again, it´s not even comparable.
