Moon Knight has a Disney Marvel PROBLEM

  • Moon Knight Episode 1 REVIEW | The Goldfish problem has aired and it was fine. No identity politics, no M-she-U.... yet. There is the problem of Disney Marvel. Moon Knight was at times a great Marvel character, but Marvel does not exist anymore. Instead we are given a homogenized version of a complex character from a company that hires people who understand the lore about as much as Disney understands a bill in Florida.

Oscar Isaac acted his ass off and he deserves credit for that. I like that they created a mystery and there's some things for us in the audience to figure out. @@meciocio " It's not exactly rocket science to put rocks one over another." Ironic you say that, because the issue is exactly how complex it actually is to do what they did. The pyramids are NOT just a pile of rocks.
They're perfectly aligned to certain constallations, their measuers are impressively accurate on that scale, and the stones themselves.... oh boy, how much time do we have. Additionally the stones are cut with insane precision, tons of them look straight laser or water cut, the internal chambers are not escvated but built shaping the stones around the intended cavities....
To this day, we don't have a realistic way to cut, transport and lift such huge blocks with such primitive technological tools as the ones that were available back then.
And no, just saying "just throw some more slaves at it" actually doesn't solve any one of those issues. In some cases, like the ramps, they actually increase the issues.

As someone knowing nothing about the character, i found this episode enjoyable. It left me wanting to see more. A point I disagreed with:
The henchmen not using their guns in the beginning. Some random guy is playing games and trying to run off with the amulet, they’re probably thinking they can easily detain him and take it. After he kills some people, then it’s cause for guns. After all, their boss doesn’t seem to be trying to kill everyone one, just those that are deemed bad, so it’s make sense that his henchmen are going to kill a pathetic looked dude for trying to run away when they can easily grab him.

Speaking from experience working with VFX, all they needed to do was take the existing renders, adjust the contrast (which was WAY off) and rough it up/sharpen it a bit. It looks to me that, just like Book of Boba Fett, they only have enough material for a 2 to 2 and a half hour movie and they chopped it up and added a bunch of filler to make it 3+ hours to fill the 6 episode quota. 6 episodes is not alot of time and when one of these shows comes out of the gate kind of dragging ass, it tells me they wrote only enough material for about 3-4 episodes. It's not terrible but I'd imagine once this is all fully out, it could be edited down into a tighter more entertaining 2 hour movie.

His brand and financial success hinges on him hating it which is why he's very "1 step forward, 2 steps back" during this "review". The plot makes great use of the characters, it makes sense why people are where they are and do what they're doing. Khonshu looks great and Oscar is KILLING IT in every scene. It does a great job in showing how Mr.Knight comes about and is sick how this basically watching two protagonists with two alter-egos switch off in any given scenario. The end credit song in episode 2 is a fucking banger, I hope they keep it. Despite what neckbeards like Gary and Az will claim, even though they "totally don't hate women", there is no M-She-U bullshit in this show, common sense isn't thrown away to be "progressive" and Marc's wife is clearly some sort of operative so it makes sense she's got hands but also isn't invincible.

the problem is that you just can't throw slapstick humor at everything and expect it to work. it's a very special kind of humor which breaks the immersion in fantasy if you don't build the whole story around it. spiderman works great with it because the story never takes itself to serious. but it also uses a real city and time to ground itself in reality so it doesn't seem to out of the ordinary and makes it easier to connect. for example batman on the other hand just doesn't work that way. a great spiderman joke kills the whole atmosphere in batman and makes characters look silly and unbelievable.
and moon knight has the same problem. it tries to tell a darker story with a complete joke of a main character. every little bit of seriousness gets undermined by him acting moronic. when the voice tells him it will kill him if he doesn't stop being such an idiot, thats the breaking of every immersion I could have. I'm not reacting like what the creators would like to see: "ohh noo wtf"
it's more an: "wait you can switch this idiot out? what are you waiting for, wanna die or something?"
also the whole plot has zero stackes. dunno about the original material but when he first lost it and killed everyone around him I lost a lot of interest because I can't see the problem. well his mind is fucked up, okay but wtf is actually going to stop him or even attempt to do so without taking his powers or nerfing him in the next episodes? maybe it's because I don't know shit about the character but I would have liked to see his weakness first or at least in the first episode so I can actually start to care. until now in my humble opinion episode 1 of moon knight is garbage. just some fancy non stop violence porn and unfunny jokes. even what it attempts to achieve, it didn't because it doesn't double down on anything. if you don't have characters to care about at least go full nuts on violence or humor or anything else. something. don't try 5 different things in fucking 30 min like what the fuck is wrong with people?

So what's the deal w/ Disney/Marvel constantly casting British females & letting them keep their accents, casting British males & making them adopt an American accent...only to finally get a role that is British male & they cast a non-British guy? Smh

I like a lot of the videos you produce, but have to disagree with this one. Maybe because I don’t have knowledge of the source material, or Egyptian mythology, but I enjoyed this way more than any other Marvel content recently.

Most people/stans don't read the source material of the heroes they like so they will like whatever marvel puts out. And start saying it's comic accurate. That's why people like Tobey.

@@thomasmuandersontheneousul4184 you are right they got a lot right but Andrew hit all aspects of his personality. Peter wasn't a nerd in the sense that he got bullied and was just awkward. The Comics say otherwise and he's was smooth with women. Rami over exaggerated the "nerd". The dude was a good boy but Peter wasn't. He started off good got powers and then went back to the good boy he already was. even when he fought flash it was self-defence. Tobey just happened to be in better movies. His character however, is off
