Ice Climbers are really important to me in Smash. I used them a lot in Brawl and sad to find out why they were cut in Sm4sh.
Seeing them in Ultimate brought me so much joy. Seeing them walk back in on Summit made the 10 year old Brawl player in me squeal with delight.
And in Ultimate they're one of my favorite characters. I have made respects to any Ice Climber player who are willing to put so much time into figuring out the desnyc combos.
And that's what I like in a player and their character. The dedication they have for them to succeed together.
Imagine if Mortal Kombat cut Johnny Cage from all versions of the game just because he wasn't possible in the Game Boy version.

Ultimate Ice Climbers are just the Ice Climbers but actually fun to fight against for once

Melee: Wobble go brrrrrr

Ultimate: Nobody really knows what this character is like outside of Twitter clips and some tournament matches. Nobody even knows what tier this character is supposed to be in! Are they top tier? High tier? Mid tier? Low tier? Bottom tier? Nobody knows. One thing we can all agree on tho is that this character is extremely complicated and difficult to master
Nowadays I see them mid tier (even potentially high) and Big D has been showing that when he beat Maister in Genesis 8 recently. If only they didn't have bad airspeed.
Also Icies I started picking them up, desyncing is difficult to do in a match, but really fun when you pull it off
They also got buffed in 9.0.0, hopefully fixing the AI, and definitely fixing their recovery.

There are no other players I respect more then an Ultimate Ice Climbers main that continued to main them since melee knowing they lost their chain grabs but don't care

Proguides should do a video on the new instant double jump tech, it would help out on explaining the tech and how it's done for those who have trouble nailing down the tech

They actually did have a "wobble" with footstool in ultimate but it got patched
Pretty sure it still exists but only on super floaty characters
Still works on puff, kirby, and paisy

Don't think they should have put Ice Climbers in Super Smash Bros for Wii U. I mean they didn't have to make the game the same as the 3DS version.
Fortunately none of that really matters now since they did return for Ultimate.
It’s a good thing they weren’t in smash 4 because the way jab resets worked and unreachable footstools would have given them so many infinites

So how good were Ice Climbers ACTUALLY?
When they are called the 5 gods but almost every competitve histroy vedio features them losing.
I mean if you looked at the results history, nobody but the gods won tourneys for multiple years straight. The God status comes from their skill sure but it was more so the dominance that nobody below them could win a major.

In one word “hell”
Wobbling. Hand offs. Desyncs. The harder their combos were the worse they were
Eh more like the worse their neutral is the worse they are.
Cos of the movement nerfs to everyone in brawl, plus icies getting hitbox buffs brawl icies were obnoxiously powerful.
Many characters had no good answers to blizzard desyncs, and some just straight up lost to it alone. Their grab punish game allowed them to compete above the characters who actually could deal with it. Brawl handoffs are harder than wobbling, but not by huge amounts.
Melee icies have pretty shoddy neutral compared to the rest of the cast in terms of how good their hitboxes and basic movement is, but their good wavedash and their neutral desyncs allow them to leverage wobbling to compete. Without it tho... they're kinda stuffed. Handoffs in melee are rng unless they're near a ledge, and they have very little ability to restrict the opponent's ability to move around them. Especially against floaty characters.
Ultimate climbers simply have absolutely garbage neutral. They have few neutral desyncs to speak of, neutral generally takes place at a greater distance in ult, they're slow as all hell with no wavedash to help them cope, their moveset got nerfed in terms of range from brawl, ice blocks are possibly the worst projectile in the game and to top it all off nana is the dumbest and most prone to SDing she's ever been. Plus desync kill combos are hand-breakingly difficult
@@nickq8093 neutral isn’t Theo problem on ultimate, side b is safe on shield and starts combos and desyncs so it’s really good in neutral, plus they have a lot of good neutral desyncs in ultimate. Ice block may be bad but it’s made better with blizz block (using blizzard as nana and ice block as popo repeatedly so that nana’s blizzard protects them from reflected ice blocks) and they have a super easy up tilt-up air kill confirm. Even without that, their reliable kill confirms aren’t hard at all with practice
