    So true! I think style is a subject every artist will have and it's nice to find one, something that i've noticed is that style is our personality into painting so, as we grow as people, we build own personalities, painting is the same, we don't need to be that worried in finding one style at painting, just going with the flow is ok and nobody is gonna die for it. Going into brushstrokes w/out thinking about is the most beautiful thing I've ever felt so, losing brushstrokes it's also a way to find your style, you wanna make people feel what you are, and that's absolutely amazing, every style is unique

    I was really hard to myself when it was come to painting / drawing : in art, we always admire artist and their styles (usually, we talk about them AND the, their styles). so it can be difficult, for us, who learn art, to not be obsess with style.
    When you talk about the thing that you love painting, the way you love painting, this is so important : I think that style is not the final result, it's the balance between what you love and how you express what you love, what you see : strong brushstrokes, colors, lights, oil paintings... And as you perfectly said, Art is a dialogue, is an expression. We always think about what we express to the others.
    And also, we have to be confortable with the way we paint. And so, it request practrice. Style is not stagnate. Style moves !
    (ok, so now, I want to talk about that for hours, sorry I talk to much 😅)
    Thank you so much Ana for opening this topic, for sharing your point of view which allows us to see more clearly and to be reassured on this subject! 🥹☺️
    And sorry for the mistakes ! 😅

    This is beautifully put! I have always felt that an artist's style is essentially their essence. You can really see who he or she is as a person when looking at their art pieces. It's so unique and personal to each one.

    A very nice video Ana! :) I completely agree with relaxing and not trying to do or like someone else's style just because it's known or popular. I have no training and only began a handful of years ago in my early mid 40's and that was for my mental health, never thought I could draw or paint, just needed to try and trying helped my head focus in beauty first :) I don't think of myself as having a particular style..in my head, I just know what moves me and what doesn't and I want to try everything! So I began drawing which allowed me to try watercolor, then acrylic...and all the rest. Just bits here n there depending on how I'm feeling emotionally and physically.
    But I love to make cards for people...I'd ask friends, family, loads of people what their favorite flowers or plants or trees where or whatever and what their favorite colors were since I typically male cards with ink and watercolor or just watercolor..so it gave me lots of new things to try and somehow made it easier for me to justify my little hobby to myself to feel less guilty using time or money on it, but that's a whole other subject all together 🤦🏼‍♀️🙄😬
    But it was just practice for me and gift for them so, win win. Bit they're nothing fancy, very simple, but someone said "I love your style of art" while in a group of family and friends and I said something about not having a style and it mostly just being awful...and literally everyone I've made cards for said "oh you most definitely have a particular style of your own!" And that surprised...surprises...me. I know I like loose yet find myself always doing too much detail and I like things a bit off or messy yet balanced...probably doesn't make sense...for example I was given some flowers recently after this surgery that has left me in a bad place emo and very bad physically...but, I could use my 1 semi good arm and of course took loads of pics of the flowers, from every angle possible for references....but....as beautiful as they were, it wasn't until they began to die back a bit weeks later, just where some petal curl back, a bit rough and cracked or ripped....its also when I first realized how amazing the deep inside of a red rose looked...far better then outside in my opinion :) but, I've never thought of it, and still don't, same way I can't feel comfortable saying I'm an "artist ", it makes me feel as if I think I'm better then I am, and I know I definitely not..I dunno...another story as well. But apparently somewhere through the different mediums, even though some are very different, part of me is in them, because I need to make them, they saved and continue to save my life, so maybe those broken bits are bits that fall into whatever im.wormong on, when I'm able to work on things, and that's what someone sees, I'm not sure. I would have no clue what to call it if it was, which is why I don't feel it is one, its just me.
    So that's the only thing to worry about. Just as Ana said beautifully, to just have fun and practice! Try things out and you'll get a feel for what you keep wanting to go back to and you can always try new things, or if you find a spot you are comfortable in and want to stay, that's cool too.
    Just let it be an expression of you, whatever it is, and it'll always be something you love which is all the matters :)
    You can tell ill old my the fact that I am clearly unable to make short answers on here😵😳🤦🏼‍♀️😖🙄😬🤷🏼‍♀️ this is part of why I am not on any other social media other then CZcams....I enjoy talking with people and don't explain very well especially in a short timely manner! Gosh...so embarrassing 🤦🏼‍♀️ so sorry!!!
    But, as always, a beautiful video with great advice! :) and I love seeing your work, especially your sweet birdy, behind you :) nice little studio :)
    Thanks again and I hope you're doing well!!!!

    Style, mediums. I started with watercolors , I also love urban sketching and recently I like oil pastels. Ugh. I’m really confused now.

      @SmillyDonut Před 2 lety +4

      That's okay. The other thing is that our style can change with time as we change and our interests change. Being a multi-media artist is perfectly okay. I paint in oils, oil pastels, and I weave tapestries. I also like using soft pastels and want to make some sculptures. You're style might even differ across mediums and that's okay too.

    Style! Yes that's the word but I didn't know it... so I told you about Turner Vinson but I thought to myself that he would not really be for you... because it is not your STYLE! I just love his STYLE and it's more me then you! Though-i love your style! It is so...soft, and gentle. But that's not all it is. Do you think that there really isn't words to describe other artists style? It's more inside...?
