    Found a small gold signet ring "D" in my parents yard in house I grew up in from 1969-1987. The ring is one my mother bought me to give to girlfriends when I asked them to go with me. We all remember those yes no Maybe notes of the early 70s. Found it 5 inches down by the driveway read 37 on the legend. What memories.

    IMO, it's perfectly acceptable to notch out a prevalent local "pest", but only if it always reads the same VDI - not a range, just a single number. For example, in my area beaches and tot lots are littered with large foil seals that always read a solid 15. There's so many of them that winning a scratch lottery has better odds than finding a gold ring that reads 15… so I tend to notch 15 out, especially when hunting by ear only.
    When hunting in trashy virgin parks and fairgrounds for the first time, I also tend to tone break out the midtones up to a penny range, sometimes even up to a quarter. I'll be back for these midtones, but a concentration of high conductor coins is a damn good indicator of where people tend to lose stuff. If I'm finding a lot of quarters in one particular spot (and it's not a parking meter or vending machine), I lower the tone break and slow down.

    Jeremy, love your thoughts and insight. To prove your point, 25 years or so ago, I was detecting with my Excalibur on ST Thomas in a small beach swimming area. A local said “you won’t find anything here, I cleaned it out last week”. I got one spot that was non stop digging, never left that spot. I dug over 200 pull tabs then, bang! The nicest gold ring I ever found. It’s so big, it fits over my thumb, have 5 nice diamonds, maybe 1/4 carat each. Then more tabs and bang! A small womans 10k class ring. Fact, if you’re on the beach, land or water and there’s tabs everywhere, It’s impossible for them to get the gold that falls in that range, even if they’re notching. That being said, there’s times when digging 9 million tabs isn’t worth it. Thanks for all you do.

    You were saying that no detector can tell rings from pull tabs Deep tech has the Vista X and the other units that when you back off the target the tones go low for tabs or you tap the side of the coil 3o clock position and the tone goes low their gold machines do the same thing and these are the most user friendly detectors on the market

    i think the best way to detect is just from lerning the tones and the common noises and when you get that noise thats a little rare you can hit it when you have things notched and such you aint listening to the ground your walking over you have to listen to it

    • @PaystreakSuperfreak
      @PaystreakSuperfreak  Před 2 lety +1

      Notching makes the detector give broken tones. Much harder to pinpoint when tones are broken

    • @MrBottlecapBill
      @MrBottlecapBill Před 2 lety

      I actually use this as a hunting strategy. Listen to the common noise you're getting from all the targets then dig anything that's "unusual". It's a good way to cherry pick those insane trashy sites on days you just don't have the will to dig junk all day. It pays off from time to time.

    • @ibme4251
      @ibme4251 Před 2 lety

      That’s what I’m working on. I’ve eliminated zinc, small sound with flat middle at ID. I can hear target with whole, hollow in middle. In practice, you can hear the density, tabs have thin sound, gold has full sound. I carry samples, if I lose the sounds, pull samples out. For me, the fun is determining what I don’t have to dig. Square tabs are rough, ID may not change, but tone does slight change at 90 deg. Learning process, but slowly improving. Must test theories.

    pretty sure it was an older fisher machine CZ? posted in a forum they used for testing 255 rings 36 % of the rings hit from foil to nickle and 46 % up to screw top ( 0-45 )so a huge issue being with newer machines running such a short scale (0 50) or 60 or -whatever bottom line something with value could be left behind playing the disc/notch game.pretty much better to just base your detecting on i have this much time, go enjoy yourself...find lost metal objects which these machines are made for!
