    On my 2002 I unhooked the battery cable and that was the end of the check engine light for almost a week.
    So your truck started even hooking the coil wire that you unhooked in the beginning? Wow that is magic.

      The only thing is if there's an issue, it's gonna keep throwing codes. Eventually it's not going to just clear it for good.

    I just had my motor replaced last week in my 2010 Dodge ram 1500 5.7 Hemi , So many problems after i replaced it, i kept getting misfire codes and running very rough .... i put allot on new parts trying to fix the problem & Nobody can tell me what the problem was ... so i just came across your video and tried the reset & I just took it for a drive ... O.M.G its running like a new engine... so i dont know if it just needed to be reset this whole time or what .. but Thanks for posting this video i'm hoping it stays running good.

    Thank you all so much for the comments. I am always trying to find quick and easy and cheap ways for the owners to do quick and safe repairs to their prized possession's. We all know that the dealerships want your arm and leg just even for diagnostics. Imagine the repair cost and parts. I did learn, don't buy the cheapest parts. Buy rebuilt, or old stock parts if you can. On many of my personal vehicle's I bypass parts and emissions equipment that I don't encourage. I live in a county that don't regulate emissions. Emissions rob you of power and mileage. Vehicle manufactures have all this programed in the ecu's and pcm's and I am trying to work my magic. I spread the knowledge and if anyone has tips and tricks please share with the world. Power to us all.....

    • @transam8607
      @transam8607 Před 3 lety

      You are right on point with everything. Some people think when you rig something or in other words modify something they Criticise. But what they don't understand is the making it work better there might be some reasons they do it this way but will not benefit us what you gain and im all for more power and efficiency. And obviously you can gain some more fuel efficiency when you have more power but when you have a heavy foot it's going to burn through alot more gas but that's. I really don't like NY with everything going on and the emissions on cars. They are becoming more like California. Feels like no freedom like jail.

    • @litleElmo
      @litleElmo  Před 3 lety +1

      @@transam8607 Yes. I understand what you mean about emissions. I had a older BMW and I removed every emissions control on it. People said it couldn't be done but I made it work. I actually gained 70 horse power and it was way better on gas mileage. Sad thing is these newer cars are programed to work with each emissions part so if one fails the ecm or ecu will pick it up and try to adjust until the problem has been fixed. Its like the security system with ford. They have it set up to the instrument cluster and the ignition system. So if there is a problem there then you have to take it in either way because they have to reprogram the cluster and ecm and the keys. Not cheap. Only way is to completely bypass everything and that is to get a stand alone ignition system. They have kits but they are not cheap.

    Thanks for the video. I had a P1281 error on my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L and replaced the thermostat and thought the check engine light would reset.automatically, it didn't. I followed your procedure to clear the check engine light which worked. Afterwards, drove my truck 25 miles and so far so good. Maybe it will pass state inspection in the next few days assuming the light doesn't return... Thanks again.

    • @litleElmo
      @litleElmo  Před 9 lety

      GC0311 Ya, no problem. If you go for a smog test you do have to drive at east 50 miles so the test locations equipment can operate correctly and you will pass it all the time and only if you don't have bad sensors. Some people try to trick them just by disconnecting the battery and it does not work that way anymore.

    • @litleElmo
      @litleElmo  Před 9 lety +2

      yes, the light will come back on. Just find the code on the panel and look it up on the net or shop book, fix the sensor and your done. Almost all cars that are computer controlled have secret ways of resetting the computer. Be careful on some cars because when you reset a comp you will have to take it to the shop for reflashing the program. We don't have that problem on our trucks. We have the self learn computers. Fix your problem and have fun:O)..........

      @Syx Just curious what car did you try it on and did it work?

    • @transam8607
      @transam8607 Před 3 lety

      @Syx dam that's alot of things you replaced not a bad thing but did the old computer work better or at all. Because in my case I now have 01 Durango 5.9 r/t and I have a misfire on cylinder 1 slightly and an almost cylinder 2 constantly i even rebuild the motor and it didn't go away checked all conections and grounds good and I replaced the computer with a remanufactred one which they told me that was the wrong one in my truck so they soposebly send me the right one and after I installed it my truck was running smooth but I couldn't erase the check engine light the code was something about the o2 sensor's and my truck also suffered a really good amount of power loss. So maybe you might just have 2 bad computers but if i wore you like changed just about everything keep looking and send back there computer so maybe they can send you back a good one if you agree by some chance they sent you a bad one like they did to me and the worst part in my case i want with one of the most respectful companies in the northeast. People i know used them with very happy results but not me I waited for almost 4 months to get it and at the end it didn't work properly so I got to send it back and the company name in FLAG SHIP ONE i know that they probably send me the wrong computer

    Just bought a 2000 Dodge Sport Ram 1500. Check engine light is on and the truck will die while driving it. Try to restart it and the fuel pin will not come up on a full tank of fuel and the engine will turn over but not start. Tried the code read thing with the switch and shows P DONE. Took it to the shop and they replaced the dist. Still doing the same. No warning when it dies it just goes. The prior owner ran a wire from the frame down to the fuel tank that has come loose. Makes me think of a ground problem. Any suggestions ?

    Tried that on my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel truck 5.9 Cummins 4WD quad cab long bed duelly and it did not reset the light.
    Yes, it moved the gauges and lit the lights. Yeah, I tried it twice, following all instruction..
    Engine Light later on went off on its own after 5 start- stops and driving around. Light had come on after I started engine with the ambient air temp sensor on the cold air intake disconnected, I forgot to reattach.
    But it was a good idea to clean the negative battery terminals. I knocked the corroded bolts out of the terminal and cleaned them, greased with marine grease and reassembled.

    Add blinker fluid and greae your muffler bearings it will be fixed properly and check engine light will go out and the problem will be solved and your truck will be safe. If your just wanting to reset the check engine light take mini slege hammer smack pcm then dump gas i prefer 93 octane but 87 works fine. Dump about 5 gallons all over engine compartment inside cab throw a lite match either in the compartment or cab and run like hell problem solved. Before attempting this method get full coverage insurance month prior. Few easy steps. 1. Full coverage 2. Get police report vandalism. 3. Get new truck 4. Hide all evidence. 5. Stick to story. Another method is the pushing it off cliff method also works well. This is what i call DIY on both these methods. Dont need nervous friend to screw this fix up for you.

    Hi! I like the video, I also have a 2002 Dodge ram 1500 and I needed to reset the engine light. I found an easier way to reset the little orange engine light. I found this on one of the online forums. Start your truck, drive forward about 15 feet, then back up to where you started, then shut the truck off. Do this a total of three times, and when you turn the truck on the fourth time the engine light will be off! :-)

    • @litleElmo
      @litleElmo  Před 9 lety +3

      Jen S. This don't work on resetting the codes. This procedure that you are talking about is to free a stuck valve in the automatic transmission which is giving the engine light code. When the stuck valve sticks, it gives off the code. If you have other codes that don't do nothing with the transmission such as 02 sensors, knock sensors, engine sensors, etc... this procedure just won"t work. Thanks for the input though. I did hear about this but never tried it. I got my source from a friend that works at Dodge and I have a friend that works at Ford so I am continuing to find new ways to help people find a cost effective way other than dealer pricing. Thanks again for the input...Keep learning and please do share......

      Always happy to help. Thanks for your info you added. Every little bit helps everyone that needs help so pat yourself on the back for assisting people fix their future automobile problems. On automatic transmissions there are electric solenoids that control shifting and gearing. Once in a while they get stuck and do trip a computer code. When this happens it means that solenoid is about to fail. They are not difficult to replace. Some have one and some have 2 depending on type of transmission. The radio on your 04 is still programmed because there is a back up battery. Internal installed. If you leave your battery disconnected for about a week or so then the radio will lose its memory.

    I was told it has to do with taking the negative cable off the battery first, when I should have taken the POSITIVE cable off the battery charger first.

    I just had my 2002 dodge grand caravan checked the code was p0601 can you tell me what the problem is?

    • @litleElmo
      @litleElmo  Před 7 lety +1

      The P0601 is a PCM " Power Control Module" problem. I had that issue before on my truck and lucky for me it was a loose wire harness. Check your wire harness in the engine compartment. There should be 2 grey computer boxes with wires coming out from them. Move the wires around and pull and push back in the connectors that are on the wires. Try to erase the codes after you do this. Does the transmission make noise when you try to put it in drive? If it sounds like a rapid clicking noise then the problem is in the transmission which should be the pressure solenoid. It is electronic and they do wear out after a while. Let me know what happens ok.

    I'm also having issues with a 2002 Ram alarm system. The mechanic can't figure out why the alarm is going off. I've never had a key fob (it was purchased new), and according to the VIN it didn't come with a factory alarm. Yet somehow an alarm is going off. Would doing this help? Any other thoughts?

      Look for a hidden valet switch. If it's a add on security system. Tell me in detail what caused your problem, recent work done, what was replaced and what was disconnected.

    I have a 2007 RAM 1500 Hemi 5.7, this trick worked to turn off the check engine light but it did not have any code showing why the engine light was on it just showed - - - - - then said done and after running the engine about 5 minutes the check engine light came back on. I have been told that the check engine light on this pickup is on because the oil pressure sensor is bad. My oil pressure gauge shows high pressure all the time.Can you or anyone tell me how high the oil pressure should read on the 2007 5.7 Hemi?Also why does the check engine light come on and no codes show up on doing this procedure?

      @titaniumman5569 Před 5 lety

      @@aaronabt4279 Thanks for the reply. I just replaced my oil pressure sensor. The old unit was leaking a small amount of oil. The oil pressure gauge still goes up to the high side and always stays in the same spot so I don't know if it is working correctly or not. If the gauge should be changing while at idle and higher RPM's then it is still not working.

      I never tried this on a 2011. I don't think it will but since you have your truck there and I don't maybe you can try it and see if it works. Try the 3 times with the key and if that don't work, try the 2 times with the key and if that don't work, try the 4 times with the key. Let me know if that helps ok.
