  • The pilot's flight bag has gotten smaller over the years and in a market flooded with compact flight totes, four bags-all with different styling-survived our long-term evaluation and earned our critical praise. In this video, Aviation Consumer Editor Larry Anglisano offers a close look at four favorites on the Aviation Consumer evaluation bench.

I sold my full sized Brightline flex bag system and switched to a 5.11 Rush 24 backpack. I love it.

I didn't watch this with audio because I was only curious to see how big each bag was. I just think we should all appreciate how this guy modeled each bag in and out of the plane lol thank you that's all I needed

I use an all leather, high quality, well-designed bag similar to what attorneys carry when shuttling from the office to the courthouse. It has multiple padded compartments with zippers and strategically placed utility pockets.
If my fine leather executive messenger-style bag (purchased from Staples, “Yeah, we've got that”) was purpose-built for pilots adorned with fancy wings and pilot branding, it would've cost hundreds more.
Be creative in your personal selection because, the best "flightbag" for your mission isn't sold exclusively at pilot-shops or FBOs.

I have the sportys iPad bag. For me its worth the $70 to have a bag with all the pockets I need. I could have easily bought a cheaper bag but I figured if I’m already spending thousands of dollars learning to fly I might as well get a dedicated flight bag.

The Lucas Higgins to each thier own. I think that its absolutly funny..after cruising the isles of walmarts sporting goods kr travel section you can find every size and shape of bag with pockets and dedicated spaces..etc. Made in china and $100 cheaper. I actually own a sportys bag and i bought it on sale about $70 off. My point is that other than badging and logos..the practicality of having a "pilot bag" is bit there. Some pilots have a ton of money to blow and some find ways to minimize the dollars flying out of the wallet

all over priced bags that are made in china. can get same bags at walmart for $100 cheaper. nobody ever said....hey cool pilot bag with an airplane on it....

Once you go professional then these bags are a good investment, especially if you're flying cross-country. but they're too expensive for the occasional pilot.

As someone using a cheap High Sierra backpack as a flight bag it does the job but not well. The purpose built bags are spendy but will probably serve you longer and better.

Tyler Hartmann ive got a $30 shooting sports bag...padded pockets, pen pockets...etc. Its a aviation inflated product..because it says pilot or flight or aviation. no, investment is a bad word to use for such a product

plane-sense It’s definitely not the same bag at walmart , These are designed for pilots , I have my iPad , headset , license , stuff all organized. Worth every penny , if you don’t to pay a premium for the best , you can get plenty cheap out there for like 50 bucks or less. My go flight is the best on the market in my opinion , it really is designed that well. Materials are premium, I did have a issue with the zipper. The company sent me a brand new bag , with that kind of customer service you can’t go wrong.

Not a miss. We covered the Brightline FLEX in the original roundup article and in other Aviation Consumer articles and recognize its utility and the ability to customize them. The three compact totes covered here were favorites for price point and size.

Brightline is terrible. Just wait until you try to get them to honor their warranty. Never again, stay away.
