Not sure if it works with trees but you can reinvigorate a pot bound plant by cutting off around 1/3 of its roots, really gives them a second life. Might be worth a try.

I used to do that when I kept bonsai 👍
These trees have been in the ground 18 months though so I’m not quite sure what you mean ?

How are these trees doing after a growing season? I'd be really interested in an update as I'll be planting a couple of hundred next year.

I’ll do a short video soon, they haven’t grown a great deal with the heatwave this year but as soon as it ended the gunnii put on a few inches the other type not so much
I lost about 20 in the heatwave!

I doubt the rabbits will eat eucalypt; Ive just planted a hundred or so here in Australia in a very rabbit and hare populous area and the rabbits leave em alone.

Yeah I wasn’t sure if they would so I guarded them anyway, something has nibbled the top of a few that have come out the top but I think it’s probably deer

@@SmallholdingUK better safe than sorry! but yeah deer are happy to eat tender eucalypt shoots. Here in aus deer run wild through all the hills; they were released to hunt but thrive in this environment; they have no natural predators here at all beyond the odd over-eager snake or northern australian crocodile.

How big is your plantation, ?I have 1 and half acre, would this size be feasible

    • @SmallholdingUK
      @SmallholdingUK  Před rokem +1

So I have 4 acres total I would say the 200 Eucalyptus take up about max 1/2 acre
But I’ve not been impressed with them so far and I’m keeping fingers crossed for this years growth!
My 2 best trees for firewood here now is silver birch and sycamore I’ve just done a video showing the amount of logs I got from just one sycamore 8 years after it’s first coppice it’ll be up in the next couple of weeks 👍

Nice video mate, where abouts in UK? I found using a crowbar was easiest for making the holes for that size plug.
Can I ask what made you pick the varieties you picked? I went for glaucescens and gunni rather than the coxxifera or w.e its called

Thanks for watching, I’m in Oxfordshire mate
I picked gunnii as it’s pretty bullet proof and just picked one of the other couple that the guy recommended for my soil type, it’s also got amazing bark colours if you have a quick search

i tried to make firewood in school once, apparently it was “too dangerous” and “there are kids here, you can’t set them on fire” or something…

I grow them from seed, their fairly easy and can get to 4’ in the first year
They are quick growers that’s for sure
