Life too short for long CZcams videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
In this episode we welcome the fantabulous Kirk Fletcher to That Pedal Shed. Kirk is a supremely talented solo artist, sideman and all-round wonderful human being from Los Angeles, California.
But heavens, he is in dire need of a pedalboard upgrade!
We start by having a look at the pedals Kirk is currently using, before Dan gets it into a bit more order by replacing the power solution and putting it all on a small board with a QMX8 loop switcher by TheGigRig.
If you want to see more detail about how Dan approaches board builds, power and so on, please check the Matt Schofield board build video here: • That Pedal Show - Matt... and Mick’s pedalboard build here: • That Pedal Show - Peda... The techniques and processes are all the same.
We then move on to a bit of Kirk’s background and playing history, before coming back to the board and experimenting a little more.
Please check out Kirk’s music by visiting his website kirkfletcherband.com/
His 2010 solo album is called ‘My Turn’ - available at all decent sources online - and there is a new album on its way in 2018!
A huge thanks to Kirk for coming to see us! Please enjoy the video…

Most helpful!!!
I was ready for a good 30 minutes more ! Thanks guys
This is flat out amazing!!!
I agree. Most complete episode ever. Great guest, great pacing, great music. So nice to see Dan and Mick just nail it like the veterans they are.
+1 for Chris Cain..he really is something else..not tps material though..he plays a 335 straight into a musicman amp..not even reverb..but what a phenomenal player..oh and he sings like BB too..
Echoing many of the comments here already, but this one’s up there with the Joey Landreth ‘episode’. When TPS exceeds the sum of its parts; Mick’s journalistic and analytical skills, Dan’s tech know-how and passion, mixed with wonderful and soulful musical expressions from awesome players and great technical solutions united in a common quest for tonal bliss. Remarkable.
This could be the description for That Pedal Show and what makes it so special. Earlier this week I introduced the show to a local guitar legend: mayor, business owner, guitar/amp collector, and weekly musician. He will really enjoy this episode.
Holy crap dude, your comment made me pregnant...
Hey man . . . Mick & Dan are both: " Very Good Guitar Players " - I have seen both of them Improve, since the 1st Episode, and Enjoy their playing, - just as much as any guest they have had.
Extremely underrated guitarist. Kirk is so natural - and humble as a player. I love to hear someone walk lightly over a song and not over-play, and that's Kirk. Truly great!
John Hildebrand I am in full agreement, this methodology of playing is achieved with a finite knowledge of music theory and a virtuoso playing skill set. 😄
Kirk honestly seems like one of the most authentic souls ever just from watching this video.. I bet his music reflects that. I need to hear more from him.
He’s a superb human. We love him. :0)
Just like B.B. in that you can feel the joy in his playing.
Dan’s pedalboard builds truly are works of art.
That Collings has the 'quack' that the old Gibsons have that the new ones don't. Amazing.
rcoveyduc ironically he has gibson burst buckers in this guitar 😂 but totally agree, insane guitars.
its probably those amazing Lollar Imperial low wind humbuckers they put in that model.
This show is a key reason I work from home on a Friday! 👍
Kirk officially has to narrate EVERYTHING from here on out = what a voice! (And a pretty handy player too 😄)
Awesome idea for a show. GIG RIG my board, or clean up my mess, and Danitize it. Dan is a genius.
Dan Steinhardt OBE, for Services to Tone
Thanks for the intro to this great musician! Very cool!
Love Kirk. I'd been happy with a 3 hour video!
Kirk just seems like such a nice guy. Not an ounce of pretense or ego about him!
Absolutely. He’s a diamond fellow!
Absolutely. He’s a diamond fellow!
he’s such a sweet man. I always come back to this vid cos he puts a smile on my face
Oh man! Greasy fingers. Kirk's a monster! Great video guys.
awesome player ; )
Good lord, enjoying a rewatch of this episode after spending the day redoing my board. Two things - Mick, your skill as an interviewer should not be overlooked, you ask some great questions and make the best of each guest. Bravo! Secondly, this show is completely responsible for me rediscovering my love for electric guitar after yonks of playing acoustic. In the last 2-3 years I’ve gone from zero to too many pedals and loving it all. My first QMX switcher was installed today and I had the same revelation that Kirk did by the clarity and lack of noise. You guys are ace! Thanks!
Thank you David, very kind of you to say. But more importantly, we are DELIGHTED that anything we do can inspire you to play. Happy days. Job done!
What a remarkable show! These Pedal Show interviews will become an important archive. Already are. Dan and Mick are, straight up, fine guitarists themselves. They ask guitarist questions and in this setting (with this audience), aren't afraid of getting too guitar nerdy. These are the good times. Good on ya, everyone involved.
Thanks Jeff - it’s a genuine pleasure doing this so we’re trying to enjoy it! :0)
Kirk fletcher is an amazing player and a great teacher. Used to sit in on his GIT open lessons. Just all around great guy
+Adam Hauk - Yep. A good man.
Fantastic! I love Kirk's playing. This is also the first time I've ever heard Mick get hung up on a lick! Thank god! He IS human!
Haha, cheers Randy! Yep, Kirk’s enough to make anybody trip over. Hope you’re well buddy!
That Pedal Show indeed! I am, thank you. I'll be at NAMM, I'll be sure to see you there!
8:26 Happy as a kid in a -candy- guitar store. I love it!
+Paul Davids :)
Love Kirkie!!!!!!!
Mick- when you are comping chords behind Kirk, and started walking the bass line.....!!!!!!! I almost fell off my chair! Bravo!!!!!!!!
Thank you! It’s really hard playing with somebody so vastly talented. You feel very small. But hey, we kinda got there! :0)
Mick, nice work !!! Am assuming the whole board going in front of the amp? And Dan don't see the Huber about lately ?
Must be so intimidating, but then again, Mick's a pro!!
Dan, Mick, Kirk, I can pay you no higher compliment than to say that has truly inspired me. Thank you.
Fantastic! Our work here is done - thank you M2E!
If I ever learn to play at a fraction of this man’s skill, my life would be complete! Kirk is truly one of nicest guys and most tasteful guitar players I’ve ever known! Do not miss him if he comes to your town!
Fantastic, guys. It's not just a show about gear anymore. This show is about inspiration, history, style, and passion for music. Kudos to the two of you for what you have created.
Thanks Rick. It was always about that really, but it took us a minute to realise it. Thanks for watching!
what i love about Kirk is every time i see him play, he genuinely looks like its giving him "joy" for want of a better way of putting it. play a lick, smile like hell. its a really honest and lovely reaction (and it happens every time i see him on a video). great work from Mick and Dan again, and love Kirk on this. ;-)
Incredible. One of the best shows ever. Thank you. That’s what a real guitar player sounds like.
What an absolute sweetheart. Effortless mastery, zero ego.
I'm so glad that Mick was able to pick his brain so wonderfully :)
Justin B. He really is such a great interviewer. I know he used to do it for Guitarist™, but still, he's exceptional!
What a player. That brought a tear to my eye. WOW!!!
Voice as deep as the ocean. Skills by the bucket load. Tone to die for. How can somebody dislike this guy?
It’s us they dislike, not him. :0)
Wow! Three of my favorite guys! Dan, watching Kirk getting inspired all over again as he rediscovered his pedals has to be the best part of this episode. You could see he was getting lost in the tone and just playing...Love it!
The joy of making noises is written on all their faces. what Wonderful wonderful powerful player player Kirk is
Kirk Fletcher seems like such a nice humble guy. Fantastic player. Glad I found out about him through your channel !
Kirk just makes me smile. What a great Friday. Thanks Lads.
Watched this twice now and love it Kirks face when he first plays through the board Dan has set up 😀 priceless , and like both Mick and Dan have mentioned regarding this show it’s all about being inspired ,Kirk plays more inspired through Dans new board 👍🏻both Mick and Dan are inspired playing with Kirk Total result.
Fantastic show TPS
Cheers guys.
+john smith ah, cheers John, yep, totally inspiring day :)
Thanks for introducing me to Kirk Fletcher with this episode. I just bought his entire back catalogue... wow
Thank you Michael, that’s awesome. Thanks on behalf of Kirk too. :0)
Michael Gough ...and practiced for four hours straight too
Michael Gough make sure you hear Smokin’ Joint. I Can Tell is about my favourite solo ever.
Kirk made that strat sing. Makes me want to get a strat. Nice work, boys.
I’m not sure what’s more enjoyable...listening to this guy play or talk.. both are so comfortable and pleasing. Thanks for introducing him to us who were not aware!
I wish I could give this all the likes. Wow. Just wow. What a treat. Thanks for all the effort to get such an amazing guitarist on the show!!!
Ohhhh my! I am old and so ignorant so thank you Mick & Dan for introducing me to the monster that is Kirk. His playing is going to stay with me long time. Awesome show 👌.
I loved Dan's solo! And Kirk playing rhythm in the strat sounds like buddy guy on the junior wells hoodoo man blues album.
Whiskers B Dan showed out fosho!!
Fascinating to hear Kirk on Blue, because THAT - the general basic tone, not the playing, god knows - is the kind of sound that comes out of a Strat when I try to play it, and I've wondered if Blue was some magical anomaly. But no, as Dan says, it's Micky Magic and his completely unique touch and feel. As great as Kirk is, one of my main takeaways here is how utterly unusual and wonderful our Mick makes a Stratocaster sound.
FLASH LIGHT! Kirk is seriously the man for busting out such a classic!
Kirk seems like the most chill bluesman out there. Not to mention, he's a killer player.
What I truly loved about watching this was the pure infectious joyful energy Kirk releases as he plays. Like a kid in a candy store, the man truly loves what he does! What a joy to see a candid interview with him, a sincerely kind hearted and humble human being, not to mention ungodly good guitar player. Thanks TPS!
Thank you TPS for having such great guest!
Kirk looks at Dan, when he after he says ""it's louder", like he's a wizard that just performed magic. It's great!
Kirk Fletcher is an all around cool dude.
As i am watching this on one side i am envious that Dan and Mick can meet such a legend, on the other side with this nice an clean board build for kirk i am looking at the mess of my board with tears in my eyes. Jokes aside: thx for this really nice episode!
That WOW from Kirk at 10:03 is great.
Genuine surprise.
Yeeeeaaaaaaaah!!! Kirk sure knows how to network, yet he’s so incredibly humble. Comes across as such a wonderfully warm human being. Great video!
Love Kirk Fletcher, what a wonderful human being he is
I love watching Dan work. Thanks for this.
What a phenomenal player Kirk is!
And Chris Cain, absolute legend.
Didn't know Kirk was so nice!
He's super humble and incredibly down to earth...and what an amazingly articulate guitar player too!
This video is pure gold.
Huge thanks to Mick & Dan for uploading quality stuff!
This was one of the best episodes in terms of being inspirational..
That tone at 24 mins... So good !!
Outstanding show! So cool to get to hear tremendous blues from Kirk but even better to see you guys get to jam with him! Top notch as always🎸
I come back and watch this every once in a while just to see the “it’s already on” part.
Wonderful. Just great. Kirk & Mick's guitar for the first coalition presidency. No words, no tweets, just blues.
Love the look on Kirks face at 57.00 when Dan pulls off that nice jazzy turnaround...priceless! Great episode guys
I like watching Dan's face on this episode. He's loving every second of Kirks playing.
Kirk's just the real deal! He's like the concentrate of all the blues guys filtered into one. Such a humble guy it seems. awesome thanks guys
The look on Kirk's face after Dan has worked his magic ... Priceless :)
Ordering a small stone right now!
TheMRCHEEFY hahahaha.
I just bought one to. How are you liking yours ?
Can't remember the last time I smiled ear-to-ear for entire YT video - especially an hour long. These guest episodes are really special.
Top Shelf Episode! Kirk Fletcher is a player's player. Mick & Dan geeking out and great interview!
Great video - made my Friday. To be honest, Kirk seems about just the nicest bloke around!
I saw Kirk play with Joe Bonamassa. He was incredible. Great to see he is so humble and nice. Refreshing.
I want to be Kirk when I grow up.
Hahaha!!! Us too. :0)
Who doesn't - that guy is one of the better examples walking around on the planet!
I just love seeing all of the smiles in this video. Great episode gents!
Warms my heart seeing Kirks board getting pimped out by these awesome dudes!
What stands out for me (other than his otherworldly playing) is how gracious and humble he is. Definitely a great role model for future guitar legends. Great episode as always. Cheers!
That Dan and Kirk jam was INSANE. Absolutely monstrous.
+KaisDragonBlade woohoo! Cheers K :)
This little jam between Mike and Kirk was absolutely amazing. You will make my entire week guys...
I see something new every day of the year - Mick turning green has to be a first though! Kirk Fletcher gave the boys a dose of down home funky and blue - OH YEAH!! Keep up the good work fellas, I love this show.
The blues jam with Kirk and Mick was inspiring. And Dan did an incredible job on that board for Kirk, for which I'm sure he'll be eternally grateful.
Kirk is the man the made me take the plunge and buy a 633 Engineering amp :)
What a monumental player.
I’m off to practice now.
+Andrew Morrish nice ;)
I don't listen to much blues, but thanks to this episode I'll be checking Kirk out. What a phenomenal player.
Only just discovering this a year late, but man this guy is the nicest dude, and what a smile when he's playing! The joy in his playing is so apparent. He's great, definitely need to check out his work. Thanks guys!
I swear, in 4 years that's the most soulful solos I've ever heard ya play, Dan. Musta been practicing a bunch, or just feelin it! Good on ya cobber :D Fletcher, bro The Living blues
+hazelkingofrabbits ah, cheers mate :)
Lovely to see that absolute Gentleman Kirk being inspired and surprised by his own pedalboard once again. Great work chaps!!
Kirk is my new fav player, and what a nice guy. Learning a bunch of new lick from him and I'm am so grateful.
its just so nice to see truly happy faces ,i`ll wager kirk could not
stop playing through his `dan revised` circuit, for days after.
cool installment this men ,well done all of you, and thanks!
Wow. Kirk Fletcher has a new fan! What great playing and tone. I’ve learned to watch you guys every single week now, whereas I used to skip some episodes. I’ll always learn something, have a preconception challenged or hear some tasty playing.
For me ... best show so far!
Kirk's right-hand scratch funk playing is phenomenal!!!
One of the best pedal shows yet. Kirk is a great guitarist and comes across as a very warm natural guy. You can really hear Back B B in his playing. Thanks Guys.
That was bloody outstanding.
Coffee, breakfast and a new episode, life is gud!
yes
The BEST show so far! A mix of everything... including a guitar teaching section! You are the best!
This is as episode of TPS that I'll be watching many, many times. Thanks so much!
A little late to comment but I was just able to watch this. Thank you for introducing me to Kirk Fletcher - a phenomenal player! He has what a wise formally-trained musician once referred to as "rhythmic authority" and what I would call groove: perfect time but it breathes. And we got to see how Dan's wizardry applies to even relatively simple effects set-ups and makes them sound so much better. Fantastic show!
Never too late! Thanks for watching!
Kirk and Mick playing together made my day special.
Amazing episode!
This was an utterly fantastic episode guys! Kirk is so amazing and so laid back and cool too. His board sounds so good, and that playing! :O Kudos to Mick for dropping in some jazz too haha.
I had no idea who Kirk Fletcher is, but holy smokes those tone fingers. You can even see how he just fuses with the guitar the moment he starts playing, like the music just starts flowing out of his fingers and guitar when he touches it. What a legend.
I am currently listening to the program on headphones. It's just beautiful guys.
All superb once again, and for me, it was Kirk playing Dan’s Tele right at the end that blew me away. That thing is possessed!
Kirk Fletcher is absolutely amazing, full stop.
Quite possibly the best guest artist episode you guys have done. Kirk is amazing!
