  • Dado stacks are fantastic tools to use but trying to measure them can be very difficult. I like to use this simple jig to find the correct blade and chipper combination to meet the width of the board I am trying to match the dado to. This requires no measuring and allows a quick setup to avoid the multiple checks that is often required to verify the dados used.

    As an old cabinet builder I like this jig. I was trained by an old timer. He told me not to slam together the carbide on the blades.

      you definitely can't overlook the importance of that! And thanks for the positive look in the jig!

    Great idea and one that I will surely make for my shop. I had bought the Freud micro adjustable dado and found even that is rather iffy to adjust on the saw arbor to get an exact fit. Your jig will eliminate that "TEST" (waste) cuts every time.

    This little jig is incredibly efficient with my wobble dado. Nearly instantaneous blade setups

    Well done. These are the types of videos that will be watched for years to come. It's not about the latest fad (laser engravers etc.) Simpler the better! !! !!!

    Awesome jig! I went out and made one right after I saw the video. Saves a lot of time and aggravation fine tuning the stack by trying shims over and over. Thanks.

    I’ve been woodworking for 40+ years why didn’t I know this super simple jig before. Definitely one of the first projects when I get into my new shop hopefully before spring (possibly construction delays).
    I just subscribe.

    I avoid dados a lot because this sizing step is time consuming. Will def try this jig out.

      It’s always a pain trying to measure and feel and go back-and-forth. I just use this all the time and I haven’t had an issue since then.

      Thanks for watching bud! The ridge carbide is expensive, but good. For your first one you might find one a little lower cost

      If you do get a dado stack, get the Freud Dial-a-width dado stack. A chart comes with it that is pretty darn close to being perfect the first time. If it isn't, all you have to do is LOOSEN the arbor nut and turn the dial a few clicks then tighten the arbor nut and your ready to try it. I use it and really like it.

    Maybe edit it to show us how it works before we have to watch you build the whole jig. Kinda time-consuming…

    I just measure the stack on the saw with calipers. Then I know exactly how much I need to add or take away. Just make sure when you place the two outside blades you line up two teeth facing out. This way you have a place to measure.

    • @NewmanSpecialsWoodwork
      @NewmanSpecialsWoodwork  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Sounds like a good way for you to do it! I don’t like putting the blades on the saw and then measuring. This is much easier for me.

    Now set it up for PLYWOOD! And No to the naysayers. Ply is METRIC!

    • @NewmanSpecialsWoodwork
      @NewmanSpecialsWoodwork  Před 6 měsíci

      You don’t have to set it up for anything! This is accurate, no matter what measurement system you use because it measures to the piece.
