What happened to him?
@@cnaizhen He had quite serious cancer, stage 4, that's now in remission. Of course, when cancer gets to that stage the chances of a relapse are, sadly, substantial.

@@cnaizhen Just to clarify, he has essentially recovered. It's quite possible he will be free of cancer for the rest of his life.

Once he's recovered fully from throat cancer and then climbing Kilimanjaro they will hopefully tempt him back!
He's good. Bob is my favorite of the non regulars.
Residents of Oz calls a flip flop (footwear) a thong.
In Canada a thong is the scanty underwear that is a string between butt cheeks.
Sharing with a friend and throwing it back and forth on a journey would be even more interesting.

It’s just a perfect exchange, both people say a string of stupid things - Anne not being a French name, just saying the name “Ann-Marie”, Tracy thinking Ann-Marie was a person rather than a slightly more French sounding version of Anne, and then that comic timing of the punchline that highlights how stupid they’re both being…

20:00 I'm with Rhod on that one - this happens when the last step is shorter than the rest because the escalator stopped in a weird position. Your brain on autopilot tells you "ok, just one more step", then your foot doesn't find it where it should be and you stumble a bit

@@buttonmasherpro1472 David Mitchell has apparently never walked up a stationary escalator, or he would not have emphasised physics over feelings. He also says “ the feeling…” when comparing the two systems…
@@davidgrounds2168 Good point. But right or wrong, it's usually pretty entertaining. Sometimes it's a bit off, but can't win them all!
A normal set of stairs has steps of the same height. An escalator flattens out near the top so the steps get lower and further, which can cause you to have some excess momentum because you were used to taking larger steps.
Wow, a moment when David is wrong! The top of a flight of stairs and the top of a non functional escalator are not at all the same. On an escalator the last few steps become gradually less high as you get to the top !

I’m disappointed. Vannes is not in the northern bit of south Brittany. It’s in the southern bit of south Brittany
I'm actually surprised Rhod didn't want to stay in a hostel as I would've thought he'd have a great time meeting lots of people. I stayed in a lot in Australia for altogether about 2 years and loved it. Mind you I was early 20's and maybe he was a bit older. It would drive me nuts now as it's basically a bunch of kids locked up in a big house with copious amounts of alcohol. I had a ball.
No he was early 20's. A surprising number of comedians who seem bubbly and friendly on TV are actually quite introverted and don't like being around lots of strangers.
I wouldn't be so sure about not liking hostels now - in my experience you're more likely to find a bunch of teenagers sat in silence staring at their phones than you are to find a party!
I stayed in a couple hostels when I was 14 which was really fun although I didn’t have to stay in a room with strangers, I was with my friends.
I knew the first story was true when he said three lads wore 1 shoe each and hopped together to a beach party in thailand.

Spoiler. Amazed that at no point Rhod's friend said, why don't you go ahead and throw and I'll catch. Or, and I don't know what gave me this idea, we can take it in turns.
I miss Rhod. He hasn't been on in years now.
He's been battling cancer, thankfully he had a scan that was clear at the end of last year

Rhod's completely right about escalators. The steps are much deeper and taller than a regular flight of stairs, so you will definitely feel a bigger difference when you get to level ground. David, as usual, demonstrates that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. What intelligence he does have seems to have convinced him he's right in every situation, including ones where he actually knows fuck all.
